Getting drugged occurs in every department city and town in Colombia. Not just in Medellin the criminals are using women online to lure desperate foreigners to Colombia to rob them . Bogotá is one of the most dangerous cities in Colombia. Yet, very beautiful, cosmopolitan, and as long as you act like a tourist. Most likely you will not face any issues.

Eric, google says that empanadas originated in Spain, which I guess would make sense as every Latin country also seems to have them. Per Google "Empanadas have their origins in Galicia (Spain) and Portugal. They first appeared in Medieval Iberia during the time of the Moorish invasions. A cookbook published in Catalan in 1520 mentions empanadas filled with seafood among its recipes of Catalan, Italian, French, and Arabian food"

¡ Me encanta Colombia ! Language note: One of the accents of Bogotá is Rolo / cachaco. It is a pretty sophisticated level of Spanish and is different from Paisa. Paisa comes for Antioquia and has some similarities to Porteño from Buenos Aires, though, I think they are very different ways of communicating. I love your videos!
@brittkoff95 Жыл бұрын
OMG thank you! I was about to comment the same thing about Paisa hahaa. Also wanted to add in to watch “La Reina del Flow” for an example of the Paisa accent. I think it’s a beautiful accent. They use vos/voseo (not vosotros like in Spain) but def a bit similar to Argentina. Shout out to Antioquia! Not sure what you meant by Sean Connery but they do sometimes aspirate the “s” and also accentuate it in a certain way (almost a gentle sh) if it’s at the end of a word I want to add in, if no one said it yet that it’s very common for people in Colombia to speak in Usted form vs. Tu form. Tu/tuteo from what I’ve heard is considered very intimate and saved for more like romantic partners. My Colombian friends said they use Usted with friends and parents. That could be more bogotá. I can’t speak for the Caribbean coast (Cartagena, Santa Marta, etc) as I’m not familiar but most Caribbean spanish is similar from what I hear Then in paisa regions they seem to switch back and forth between Vos and Usted kinda randomly. Que bacano!! 🎉 epa la arepa!! 😂

Hi guys! thanks for reassuring me about safety in Colombia :) just a question from a fellow photographer: how did you feel going around Bogota/Monserrate with your camera just clipped on your backpack in plain sight and your tripod sticking out of the backpack? That's literally "dar papaya" :P
@EricandSarah Жыл бұрын
Monserrate is super safe! It’s also only dar papaya if you’re just willy nilly holding your stuff and not paying attention. Somebody would need to cut off the backpack to get that camera or tripod off of it. As far as the rest of Bogotá, because there’s two of us, it’s easier to be defensive. You can generally get a feel of an area when you arrive - not to mention that if you’re in an area where someone will steal your camera, there’s a chance that someone will let you know. We had our cameras out in an unsafe area once and we had like 3 different people on the street tell us to be careful. So we put them away!

North Bogota is mostly safe and where most of the tourist parts are. Also all of the richer neighborhoods are there too. Not to say that the north is 100 percent safe, but it is alot better than south Bogota. Areas in Southern bogota are quite run down and areas more sketchy and higher crime. As a tourist, you wouldnt have any reason to venture down south of Bogota. But yes you can spend a whole lifetime in colombia and nothing would go wrong. But its important not to be complacent, even if you have been safe you're whole trip. The moment that you start to become lazy or over confident, is when you could find yourself being robbed or kidnapped. Also need to be weary of cops, as some can be just as bad as the criminals if they want to take advantage of "dumb tourists". Im aussie with family in Colombia, so everytime I go there I got the locals keeping me out of trouble :)

You're fine because you're only in the city. But a famous YT Canadian/Russian lady vlogger from Canada was walking daytime over a pedestrian walkway along the road & got puzzled why people in cars where pointing hands towards her when she suddenly saw a guy coming towards her behind her back with gun. In her panic, being a tall woman, instead she run towards the man shorter than her whom she pushed and she jumped over the railings and good thing a public transportation stopped and she escaped. But she was so shaken and crying when she was at her hotel, decided to fly out. Apparently, being tall, beautiful, & blonde, while she was walking on the walkway, there were these men walking alongside her but below much lower than the road level. Earlier she was fine in her stay in Bogota, & in other cities, except that city (can't remember the plsce name).

We heard that story as well. Such a scary thing that happened to her. Sadly being a solo female traveller does make you more of a target (although we have met many solo females with great experiences in Colombia!) But we’ve been all over the country (cities and small towns) and have personally never felt unsafe at all here!
