With PlayStation’s live-service game endeavor, almost all of these games are usually expected to be free-to-play. Especially games like this that are multiplayer focused. When Helldivers II was announced to be $40 for the base game, I thought that is the exact price point that is acceptable for these types of games. Obviously free-to-play is better for the consumer, but I’m kind of more happy to pay one set price for the game. There may be micro transactions for the game too, but the developer has mentioned they will only be for cosmetics.

Just a reminder that was 8 years ago when Blizzard still had a good reputation and had it's first new ip in 20 years which hyped tons of people up in a market that doesn't have 20 free 2 play games where you can get the same fix you can get in Concord. Ask Lawbreakers, Battleborn, Bleeding Edge heck even the most recently re released Gigantic how they are all doing today. Concord will die in this market if they don't find a solution be it a trial version with limited heroes or something else otherwise it's ded in the water after 1 month.

$40 for this type of game makes perfect sense. But the fact that it still has micro transactions, just turns me off. And personally, I don't play (play long). games with a battlepass. Battlepasses are designed to be against the player, so why would I waste time on that game?

Battlepasses are meant to get you to come back and play seasonal content and not be done with the game at launch. It is a choice, players do not have to engage in battlepasses if they want to move on with the game, but it gives incentive for the players to come back and keep playing. Diablo 4 is a great example of it. $70 upfront for the game when there are so many cheaper alternatives, and has $10 battlepasses every 3 months.

@@atulshanbhag3558 Good gameplay should be all the incentive needed. Cod4 didn't need a battlepass. BF4 didn't need a battlepass. Counter strike doesn't need a battlepass. Halo didn't need a battlepass. None of these franchises needed a battlepass. And surprise surprise, these franchises have all gone down hill because of the battlepass. People would grind out daily just for titles in Mw2. Now it's all behind a battlepass or store. "battlepasses bring back players", we have concrete evidence that they aren't needed and thst they hurt the games.

@@dv2244 I agree with you fully but we need to accept that times have changed and development is expensive. Today, you can get free to play games with insane grind or exorbitant mtx or gacha systems to make up for the cost or you can have a decently priced game that comes day 1 with content it has promised. I myself loved the times back grinding my way through, but no game dev does that anymore. Closest I found in recent memory was Monster Hunter.

There aren’t battle passes in Concord. $40 gets you the game and all post launch content. Skins and other cosmetics can be purchased, though.

i can see them doing a thing where after like 4 months they make it free for everyone and theyll call the 40 dollar like the founders edition with all the characters and the first battlepass and everyone else will have to pay for more stuff

Hoping they so the same thing as helldiver's where once you purchase the battle pass you have it forwver and can unkock it as you want with no time restraint. Thats awesome and reapects the players time.

I really don't think they can do a limited roster for F2P players with how the game's crew systems work in the rivalry modes. You have to have at least 12 characters I think and it's not like F2P would have a ton of variants to fill that out. And even if that was okay by the free players they would still potentially actively hamper their team with the whole crew buffs thing, potentially affecting a team of paid players

You only need 6 characters to make a freegunner crew in Rivals mode. I could see the F2P version giving out 6 random characters for free.

I'm pretty sure the people begging for certain franchises to make a comeback never supported them. People talked crap about the last socom, resistance,killzone and Starhawk. There's a reason why Sony hasn't made a sequel they tried multiple times and noone supported them. People just played the big multiplatform multiplayer shooters for example cod and battlefield.

To be fair we havent seen any of those franchises since the PS3 and early PS4. The world is in a very different place and so is PlayStation. I think something like Starhawk or Warhawk would do gangbusters today

@@LowSkillPlays Believe me I would live for all of those franchises to make a comeback as someone who supported those games but I don't blame sony for trying to make something similar to what has been making other publishers lots of money. I believe people just like to hate on Sony for anything they do in the multiplayer space. I remember when people were super hyped for titanfall and everyone was losing it because there were mechs. Meanwhile, here I am playing Starhawk using a hawk that transforms into a mech or running around using the smaller grizzly mechs. Sony probably lost a lot of money trying to be creative and ahead of the time with their games, now they're just trying something different.

Because the market is saturated with so many of these online f2p shooters that asking for $40 sounds like a bad move. Also they are trying to justify the price by giving us "weekly episodes" but nobody buys a game to watch it like a TV show.

@@luvstagrindDestiny 2 is basically that though, and Destiny 2 is very popular. Story unfolds week to week, and people keep coming back for more.

I personally don't enjoy the idea of paying £40 for a PvP only game Evolve, PubG, Titanfall 1, Overwatch 1... I had an issue with all of these and never bought them at launch because it just doesn't offer much in the way of content

@@michaelandrews117 I get that. See, if it was 60 or 70 then I can see your issue with lack of a campaign. It’s 40 dollars. That seems justifiable for a pvp game and all the content and future content. 🤷‍♂️. Overwatch was 60 dollars when it first came out on console and I believe 40 on pc. 40 dollars for this seems good. To me at least which is why I purchased it. I think some people want a 70 dollar campaign in a 40 dollar package. That’s just not feasible

No one forking 40 quid to play mutliplayer mode.. for fuck sake. Remember when cod didn't have single player and it got slated to hell... why did they not make a single player along with the multiplayer. People have short memory I swear.. this is not a content rich title for fuck sake.. titan falls 2 flopped in sale but still had more content than this game is launching with.. can people stop with their playstation biase... I won't buy cod if it lacked single player what makes them think ill do that for concord.
