Is Darkmantle Actually The Best Rogue Set? (Will We Use It Forever?)

Now that we've had at least a month to test out both the full Darkmantle set, and the 2.5 Deathdealer's set...we ask ourselves on more time.. is Darkmantle actually BiS?

At first I was pretty pissed that I spent the gold time and resources on it, but after getting into the groove and noticing how even just one prock can change so much even in cleave fights with rinatakis and tea. I enjoy it as daggers. I'm wanting to change it up and use claw of the black Drake for fun My off hand will be fang of the faceless. I'm sitting at 14% hit

As daggers, Darkmantle has been extremely impressive for me. Major reason hasn't even been the extra backstab here and there, but rather, the ability to actually weave 5cp Eviscerates where quite frankly, outside of AR/Thistle tea, this was just impossibile. Between that and Veiled Shadows, it certainly feels like the energy scales super well with every off tier piece I acquire and has seriously led to thoughts about how to re arrange what I had planned to do in Naxx. As you mentioned, the value of the proc during Blade Flurry is also obscene to a level that drastically makes a difference on the MANY trash fights in AQ. I will definitely be attempting to play around more with it, but the additional value of passing tier pieces to others just cant be denied. This set is what makes me love rogue so much more than warrior.

I don’t raid at all this time around, and having made that decision, I’m enjoying the game so much more. I do enjoy end-game dungeons and epic quest chains, though. I had the full Shadowcraft set, and now I am very close to obtaining my last two pieces of the Darkmantle set (chest and helm). All of my other gear (necklace, trinkets, rings, and weapons) are pre-raid BiS. I’m loving every minute of this game without ever setting foot in a raid.

I have the full Darkmantle set and absolutely love it. BUT... it's important to remember that as great as the set is, it's still a pre-raid set when all is said and done. I continued to update my weapons, trinkets, rings, etc. for Phase 4 and therefore competed quite closely (overall) with other rogues who had the full Bloodfang set, but BW|L is where I really began to feel restricted by the Darkmantle set. Sometimes RNG was great and I would put spank the other rogues in the raid, but then when I had bad luck with RNG and didn't get enough procs, they spanked me. Still, I got through BWL convincingly. AQ40 was a different ballgame altogether. When I finally got the full Deathdealer set, it became apparent to me that the higher and more consistent damage output was far more important when raiding at that level. (The extra stamina on the Deathdealer set is very nice, too.)

Personally i go for consistency over procs, rather be the consistent top than spike top.

Dark mantle is better for dagger spec, since backstab costs a lot more energy, so you can get a bigger yield from the energy boost. Or so I think at least.

as a dagger rogue with very bad luck, the darkmantle was a huge upgrade to what I had at the time (and at the moment, i've only gotten the head from the 2.5) and I've been having a blast with it, but sometimes it is off putting when it triggers and you can't spend the energy fast enough cause backstab costs so much energy

as an alliance dagger rogue, the darkmantle set proc rate was disapointing for me. I have p4 bis which performs much better.maybe I have been unlucky so far...😖

@@yash5440 Pretty much this. It’s *pre-raid* BIS for dagger rogues, but it’s already way outclassed by the Molten Core daggers in Phase 2.

I’m already starting to gather my 2.5 set. In my opinion it’s a short lived upgrade under certain circumstances for min maxers with time and gold. That’s just my thinking, if I had more time to play id prolly get it

I was playing yesterday in BWL with 2 rogues that had darkmantle set. They did better than me in my full t2 set, but also, both of them got again ZG enchants for helmet and pants. IMO, if you're willing to farm or have farmed that big questline, spend 500g getting all those items, and spend even more gold for enchants and farm ZG runs for idols so you can enchant pieces... Go for it, if not, you'll get 2.5 anyway in 2 or 3 months.

i always knew darkmantle was gonna be good caus shadowcraft was awesome back in p1/2 i got super lucky and got ironfoe on my rogue at lvl 58 togethwith wf the shadowcraft procs would go insane sometimes since ironfoe proc doesnt have internal aswell and it would pop of the wf

darkmantle will always have the highest potential but procs are volatile and never know when or how frequent they're come. but have it all line up and you can take that number 1 parse. I'm personally excited to see sealed fate make an appearance soon ;)

I’ve tried Seal Fate and it’s awesome, but you really need to have a boatload of crit to make it work (i.e., lots of AQ 40 gear). And for the crit stat not to be wasted, you need more hit, too; the 9% hit “cap” that rogues are encouraged to get is just the non-negotiable hit minimum you need to start raiding. For rogues, hit is still king, as the majority of your dps occurs from white (auto attack) damage.

Hey, thanks for the content you make. I’m a causal player and finding content that’s informative and interesting is kinda hard, and you definitely hit those marks. I do have a request though, I main a dagger rogue and I keep looking at the bis gear lists I see on wowhead, but there’s always something I don’t understand. Why does all the bis gear have hit on it? From looking at all the different guides I can find it would show that you need 9% hit and 6% if you have at least 308 dagger skill. I found one guide that said you need a baseline of 9% and to add 1% per tier gear, I.E. MC 9%, BWL 10%, AQ 11%, and Naxx 12%. But if you go to Wowhead and get all of the BIS gear you’ll have 14% hit and 308 dagger skill without adding in the talent hit and weapon skill. So I I just wanted to ask you what at what point do you stop focusing on the hit gear and go for better stat options? I comment would be great but a video explaining what you would consider the max hit you need would be wonderful

The soft cap is 9% which is lowered to 6% with 305 WS and this does not mean hit becomes worthless if you reach the soft cap amount. As the hard cap (missing with auto attacks) is at 25% so you should be looking at every 1% of hit to that point being worth around 22-24 Attack power.

Im finding my darkmantle to be abit disappointing. I have come from full t2 as a sword rogue. I have all the new enchants on my darkmantle and it seems i consistently lose an average of about 20-50dps depending on procs. Overall it deffo feels worse and less powerful but in some situations it is good for building quick combo points when you dont have a lengthy fight.

Also, the better your weapon, the better Darkmantle is over 2.5.

I get your point, but its not true. Sure.. your backstabs hit higher.. but better weapon also scales better with stats... and t2,5 got much better stats then darkmantle.

I got the mats pre patch, I prepared, while people were doing teh war effort I was doing my own little effort getting DM and once I got it I realized quickly that I wasnt going to take it off for a very very long time. Other rogues are going for AQ 2.5t while I'm saving dkp for DS and Pugion daggers, Gabby, Aggony belt, gloves and cloak. And I'm a dagger rogue, and still outperforming or on par with 2.5t geared DFT pugio wielding rogues and sword rogues. (I have Perd/Veiled daggers atm and no DFT) + I have Veiled 3 piece set now as of 3 days ago and the -10 energy when SnD gives me more energy and options. DM & Veiled 3 piece is seriously BIS. All I want now is Death's Sting in my main hand, AQ gloves and Aggony belt. I don't even think I want to swap my Veiled dagges for a Pugion and break my Veiled 3 piece bonus. I'm so glad I got DM and Veiled. Not to mention Earthstrike that I got as well from hellish CC Field Duty grinding and rep farming. DM + Veiled 3 piece + Earthstrike + Renetaki's = BIG BOOM BOOM
