love both these companies. in this comparo, the shure sounds more rounded and solid

The MV7X sounded fuller and less harsh to me. This was actually almost to a fault in the treated room where the rode podmic sounded a little bit better. But in the untreated room, which is representative of my use case, I think the MV7X played into its strengths, and the Rode PodMic sounded more tinny in comparison.

The more I compare these mics, the more the fall into specific categories. For the most part, they’re aren’t bad options. Just different tones and variety of sounds to fit different people. It’s something I’ve grown to understand, especially with how people hear things. Thanks for checking out the video!

If I wasn't gifted an SM7B, I would have ended up with the PodMic. Like you said, everything I've tried from Rode, I've loved and after I bought a PodMic for my girlfriend, I was immediately jealous.
@RebelTech19902 жыл бұрын
The PodMic is a great option especially for the price. For my voice I'm not too big on it but it does the job. The Shure SM7B is great but for most people it's overkill. Then again you'll get great quality for whatever you wanna make with it. Thanks for checking out the video!

Interesting results. I have both of these microphones and I prefer the Rode PodMic. I am using the Podcaster Duo as my interface. My voice sounded deeper, rounder and punchier than the Shure, but my voice is deeper than yours. I need to spend more time tweaking MV7X, but initially, I was disappointed with the results. Maybe because I had SM7B expectations. I will revisit, but right now the PodMic is my goto. I also plosives more prominent using the MV7X.

I am getting the PodMic since I only need it for corporate calls, however, I am curios to see what you think about the pop filter they introduced with the usb. I heard reviewers say it actually changes the sound a bit
@RebelTech19905 ай бұрын
Any thick apparatus will alter the tone. Just need to find one that has a happy compromise with plosive and tone. I’ve noticed that the metal pop filters don’t alter the tone as much

great video, did you happen to use any mic boosters for either of these mics during testing or during the outro? Thanks for taking the time to compare these, pretty interesting, Good luck on the job btw.
@RebelTech19902 жыл бұрын
I did use a fethead on the outro. To be honest most of these mics would benefit from having one. Just gives you a cleaner signal and takes some pressure off of the preamp. Thanks for checking out the video!
@MrBayeasy2 жыл бұрын
@@RebelTech1990 no problem, I enjoy the detail and tests you go into with these. If you've got time I have another question, if you have enough gain on your preamp to get the mic between the -18 to -12 area for the source, would mic boosters be needed? I've always wondered about this because that is the headroom desired for volume fluxuation and manipulation, then I would always boost in my DAW and add any EQ and compression I wanted. So while a handy tool to have on hand, would a booster be needed if you have the gain to get you in that range, even if you have to max the preamp out, especially if your interface has the same EIN as the booster you're using? All this considering I would be boosting the audio up anyways after that in the DAW, wouldn't it not matter if I'm using a booster, since I'm adding more gain back in during post as the noise level would increase along with it?
@RebelTech19902 жыл бұрын
This is a great question and there are multiple answers/opinions. Short answer, If your preamp is good, your mic is getting the gain and there isn’t any unwanted noise then you are good to go. The reason for a “mic activator” is to take the load off of the preamp. Avoiding hiss and unwanted noise. Here is my opinion, if you are using a mic that has a sensitivity -45db or more then I recommend getting one. Now this is for anyone outside of a professional studio. Some engineers prefer not having them because there is a chance for a compromised signal. Rare, but possible. Hope this help!

Am I the only one who cannot hear a difference between the two? I can hear the difference if its usb vs xlr or a 100 vs 1k dollar mic, but can't tell little differences. Good video btw my man

Sometimes it’s even tough for me. Listening to it over the internet doesn’t always translate but it gets most of the point across. The other thing is, if you plan on making KZbin videos, it’s a good example of the quality after it’s uploaded. Thanks for checking out the video!

They're both very close. I think the MV7 has a richer sound, while the Podmic is a little on the tinny side.

The rode podmic just sounds better in general but the mv7 can potentially be a forever mic due to it being a usb and xlr mic
@RebelTech19902 жыл бұрын
I can understand the fascination with the duel use of usb and xlr but it’s definitely not for me. I’d rather save the money and get one or the other. The way that usb mics are going you can get really good quality out of them without a need for upgrading. Of course depending on the stuff your are making. The PodMic is always a safe bet, but for people like me that are particular it may not be enough. Thanks for checking out the video!

Podmic by default definitely is more Sss:y and sharp, everything can be tweaked of course but so can the MV7, just cut the lows a bit and it will still have a great sound but without the sharpness I think. Which one did you end up using?
@RebelTech1990 Жыл бұрын
Between the two I prefer the MV7X. Depending on the sound you want you can mess around with the sm7b wind screens. They change the tone enough to make a difference. Thanks for checking out the video!

it possible to use Shure MV7X with simple sound card without preamps and other things?
@RebelTech1990 Жыл бұрын
You will need a good preamp to power the MV7X, but the good thing is the same mic comes in a USB/XLR combo, the MV7. It's more money but no need for a interface. Thanks for checking out the video!

You are great man, wonderful comparison. New subscriber. !! I have a question, I'm interest in both and I still don't know which one to buy. I have really really deep voice and I will do voice overs and videos like documentals, what do you say it's the best option for me? (I'm getting a Focusrite Scarlett Solo Interface to use for recording with my laptop btw). Greetings from Dominican Republic
@RebelTech1990 Жыл бұрын
If you want to emphasize your deep voice, go for the MV7X. But if it’s too much then the PodMic would be better to control it. That all being said I prefer the MV7x, so you can adjust the lows pretty easily in post. Hope this helps, thanks for checking out the video and the sub!

Hello. Thanks for the guide :). Well done. Question - which of these microphones will pick up sounds from the environment less after proper configuration (room close to the kitchen).
@RebelTech19902 жыл бұрын
It really is a toss up in that regard. You would benefit from throwing up a few blankets on stands or something soft to absorb the reverb back. The Shure is probably the better option overall but that also depends on the sound you’re looking for. Hope this help, thanks for checking out the video!

It’s very interesting seeing how the budget mic have evolved in the short amount of time I’ve been making videos. The PodMic was the go to when I first started the channel. Now it’s average. I might like the MV7X more than all of them but I’ll have to listen to all of them again to make a solid decision. Thanks for checking out the video!
