Thanks for this video so helpful! I personally didn’t like the presence boost on the PD 70 when I first got it but now I really do appreciate it. If I wanted to use that microphone in something like zoom, it’s nice that out of the gate it doesn’t need very much to sound good. Whenever I use this in a recording situation, the first thing I always do is put a graphic EQ and completely flatten out the microphone by basically reversing everything that the frequency response curve does including bringing back the low frequencies. I find that when I do this, the natural processing that I do want to channel sounds so much better and not as harsh.

That's a lot of work but I can definitely see the benefit from it. Maybe I'll make a video covering that and see if it's more efficient than doing it like I normally do. It really will come down to workflow and if I can get better results. Thanks for checking out the video!

Good choice. Mics are obviously very personal, and my personal preference is for accurate and clear. I think there may be a PD-70 in my future. Every review I've seen for the SM7B seem to be full of plosives that get glossed over. Thanks for the effort, great work.

Hands down MV7X takes the cake... Love the dark tone, closest thing to the SM7b on the sub $200 price point.

Idk, I see the MV7 popping up on podcast more and more. I feel the 7 rather than the X is more appealing to the general market. It was marketed as a “budget Shure sm7b” and people ran with that. That being said, I do like the MV7X. It’s actually leaning towards one of my favorites. It’ll be interesting when I do another big microphone comparison. The PD-70 might not come out on top this time. We will see…

Thanks Great review as usual 👌✨ Good choice of mic's for compare both are nice microphones For sure the MV7X sounds brighter with good low and mid range and sounds better then the PD-70 but with little equalization and filtering the PD-70 will reach the same level of the sound quality of the MV7X and maybe better with affordable price

This was a tough one for me. I really like the MV7X and I have a feeling it will take the title one day when I do another big budget broadcast mic video. I think I’ll do another one when I have one more mic to add to the competition. Adding one more mic is just a waste but two more makes it more interesting. Thanks for checking out the video!

@@RebelTech1990 I used to work at a store similar to guitar center. I would always be testing and setting up new microphones that would come in. I remember the PD 70. It reminded me of the lewitt 440 pure with better plosive rejection. We also had the mv7 that were always sitting in the back. I don't think it's bad just nothing special about the mv7.

With the sm7b filter on the pd70, in comparison the mv7x sounds very slightly muted or darker presentation.

That MV7X has the same issue as its USB partner, and that's awful plosive rejection. Guessing the windscreen is super thin like the MV7? The PD-70 sounded much cleaner, and highlighted your voice much better - just more natural all round. The Shure sounded like it was trying to make things louder in order to be "better", but misses the mark because of that.

The Presonus sounds great! I’m wondering if it needs a cloud lifter or fethead? What do you think? Thank you
@RebelTech1990
@RebelTech1990 2 жыл бұрын
It really depends on your preamps. If they are good and don’t give you too much noise when cranked then you will be fine. That being said you will usually benefit from having a mic activator because it will Take pressure off the preamp regardless of the quality. Thanks for checking out the video!

So I recently purchased a pd70 ( cloudlifter as well) with a scarlet 2i2 for my interface. I'm trying to use it for streaming/discord, but it just sounds too low in the actual live stream even though my gain is decent on the interface. Is there software I can use to have the mic sound like the more popular sm7b? ( as far as audio quality goes.)
@RebelTech1990
@RebelTech1990 Жыл бұрын
I’m not a fan of the scarlet interfaces. The preamps don’t give enough gain for dynamic mics. As far as making a mic sound like the sm7b idk if it’s possible. Some people say they can do it but I won’t hold my breath. That mic has a distinct sound that is hard to replicate.
@Keyzmagee
@Keyzmagee Жыл бұрын
@Rebel Tech So I'm still in a return policy for the pd70. Is it safe to just go with a better quality mic, such as the mv7x/ sm7b over the pd70 instead of upgrading later? Or what would you recommend for an audio interface with better pre amps.
@RebelTech1990
@RebelTech1990 Жыл бұрын
You’ll have the same problem with most dynamic mics. They need a good amount of gain. So changing the interface is probably better. You wanna get something with Midas preamps. The wave xlr and go xlr has them. But if you need more inputs you’ll have to do some research.

Nice, nice. Gotta love how good the PD-70 is for the price. Also, for voiceover, which among your dynamic mics would you recommend? Aside from the SM-7B lol
@RebelTech1990

Sub $200 I have two answers. Overall I think the PD-70 is my choice. It does need some work on the back end to fit the job but it’ll do it. On the other hand if you want less work and plug and play, the MV7X and the PodMic are great. Less work but less flexibility, at least in my opinion.

I’ve been interested in a lot of usb mics but I would need to invest a lot of cash to cover the ones that I would want. The other issue is when I’m done with them, I’ll never use them. The mics that I own will have some use for me. Those are one trick pony’s. Maybe I can sell them or do a giveaway but it’s tough. Let’s convince these companies to send me stuff then we don’t have to worry lol
