To add backup on your analogy with cloud migration, I'm a ten-year senior Java enterprise developer working for the Defense Department. And I'm on the cloud migration team where we are JUST NOW comparing different CSPs before we even start migrating! Lord only knows how long the actual migration will take, but I'm guessing at least a few years. AND on your other analogy about COBOL, about 1/3 of our developers are COBOL programmers maintaining our central mainframe. :-D So yes, there will always be some old mess in legacy systems moving at glacial speed. Not everything is on the cutting edge. Now the old messes aren't a lot of fun to work on compared to the new sexy stuff, but they're certainly not eliminated. It's still a decent paycheck.

I agree. I am from the old school of Basic, FORTRAN and Pascal. There are so many legacy programs and hardware out there that almost no one knows how to deal with.

not only that imagine 1 tiny driver issue on the platform that that AI's software runs on. Often AI's fail to take in the whole environment and they will not be able to detect the more physical stuff. So forget integrations with specific hardware. We won't be seeing it in the critical software that needs to be one point. I think even in normal projects maybe Devin and AI's could make like bigger parts of code but in the end it will still need humans that understand the structures to put them together. Not to mention that the people who need projects made need to understand UML. Likely each company will get its own AI to run in its servers. So my guess is that they'l be more like a digital assistant and likely will need some software engineers or data engineers to babysit them. Also people panicking in this idea of it will replace us, certain software already has. Remember when we had to manually make jumps in assembly and such languages or those times when we had to use pointers before java or the structs in C or older languages before objects even existed. IDE"s etc do that for us. AI will be similar.

Maybe I am not as experienced as Mosh, but I have 12+ years of experience in working as a software engineer and I have this feeling... The video has the all answers whether you should keep learning or give up. Go for it and become a great software engineers and if there will be time when AI is about to replace you, this means there will be robots replacing workers, cleaners, craftsmen and AI dominates the whole world. So it does not matter what you are doing at that time... Being a great software engineer is one of the hardest job out there, so you should focus on learning and advancing your skills and using AI for your improvement instead of being scared and doing nothing.

Someone who doesn't have solid code knowledge could never create complex apps with Devin. You atleast need to know very specifically what you need to do in order to use it efficiently. I use Edge as my browser and it has a built-in Chat-GPT4. I can ask it to program simple formulas and it's unbelievably fast. It's scary. I believe it can't totally replace a programmer because it can only handle chunks but with the way it is going right now, it might be able to handle and organize large collections of these program chunks in the future. The main job of making the program work still relies on the ability of the human to put the correct order of these chunks. For now.

Hi Mosh.. i think design patters, coding skeleton code with API-names and objects/class definition with plain-english within the functions if given as requirement AI will get hold of it and code the flesh-part within the functions of what we want to do. This will speed up the Development cycles and out of 10-engineers only 2 or 3 will be required. Devin and other AI tools will cause industry shrinkage over period of 5 to 10 years... This seems unquestionable reality. Please advise how to cross over this !!! Will upskilling to AI, ML, RNN, LLM.. will it work ?

Not convincing: sure the big data big critical systems are safe from "AI takeover," but someone coming out of a code boot camp or video tutorial series is not a candidate for these engineering posts: such a candidate definitely direct competes with experienced devs implementing (and improving by feedback loop) ai code tools. Excellent point, however, where Mosh reminds us that no decent position comes without continuous learning and improving and keeping an eye out for when and what to adopt. Keep going! Hey Mosh. Great video. Loved the reasons.. this hype is going around only on youtube and spread fear on junior devs a lot more.. i agree to everything you said. I would like to add another point. I live in india so ill take this as an example. So the point is long ago in the 90s and 2000s we had simple cars like maruti or hyundai which were simple switch on car use it and switch it off simple.. but slowly we started seeing automation in everything in automobile industry.. till 2023 we saw right from switching on the car till switch off everything was automatic.. manual was almost gone forever.. everyone was into automated door locks auto window lock auto switch off car through app and all of it.. heck even self driving cars ideas came up.. but when people saw enough of automation.. you as a driver need to get a hold of the car bro.. and now you can see they are bringing in physicsl human touch for many things in automobiles now.. clubbing in both automation and manual work side by side.. i think AI also will be going in the same directions.. now people are saying AI and automation.. of course its not going to go away but point is because we sometimes get wrong outputs usinh chstgpt people will be using it only as a side tool and definitely not as a main one.. i had used chatgpt during android dev and i was like if i had seen stackoverflow i wouldve finished my work by now.. You’re right! This hype is only on KZbin because (sadly) selfish KZbinrs are trying to get views and make money off of fear mongering. The worst part is they’re doing this not to make millions of dollars but to earn a few hundred bucks! Is it really worth it to deceive people for a couple of hundred dollars?

@@programmingwithmosh Yes true.. it's not worth it.. and you know the best part.. all the senior devs don't care😅😅 they know these things come and go but our foundations remain the same.. whether it's react spring java or whatever.. these tools just help us.. glad I didn't graduate in 2023 24.. I feel pity for people who are graduating and watch these videos and feel scared to continue in the IT industry..

my advice bro start and feel free. this technique can indeed remove some jobs but not programmers because when you get more techniques in your career and you have mastered them they can't replace you. So, start and look at this technique as an assistance. good luck

Thank for this motivational video Mosh.I appreciate it.I've always had a thing for coding and AI but I'm still kind of on the fence when it comes to choosing weather I should start learning AI immediately or start with learning front/backend development first.I've heard for instance that finding a job in the AI world is very difficult without a degree or any prior coding experience.Mosh I would like to know if you have some advice on this matter?Should I start with front or back end development first or should I jump strait into AI for example?Your advice will be appreciated.Thank you.
