Here's my take. If you got it on Wii U, unless you wanna play it on the go, play as Funky Kong, plan on selling your Wii U, or just like DK's new snout more for some reason, it's not really worth the double dip. For people who never played the game, it is BEYOND worth it since it's such an exceptional platformer!

Matthew Smart But what about online features? That's a key reason I'll be buying this. I know it was just leaderboards, but still… The Wii U's online is gonna get discontinued eventually and I don't see as half as much point to the Time Attack mode if I can't see how I rank on the leaderboards. The replay feature was nice, too. I could see how other people played a level in Time Attack and "cheat" by copying off of them and their strategy. Without the online features it's gonna kill the Time Attack mode which was like one of the only reasons to play this game after beating the final boss.

I'll say it once, and I'll say it again. Charging $60 for a game that launched 4 years ago at $50 leaves a bad taste in my mouth. That and the game was permanently reduced to $20 for Nintendo selects. So you are essentially paying an extra $40 for not owning a Wii U.

I'm torn about this. I will obviously pick this up on the Switch since I didn't have a Wii U but I can understand the disappointment on previous owners of the game. That being said the game didn't sell well but deserved to after scoring well with fans and critics. Nintendo put everything on this game and it's even one of their best side scrolling plattformers of all time. Could they reduce the price considering how much money they've made post switch? Probably, but we got to remember this is a business and I would honestly be surprised if they did reduce the price. Besides, the price will most likely go down within a year.

Snorlaxxll Absolutely not an excuse in my opinion. There are full-blown remakes that cost less than this. Sure a lot of people haven't played it on the Wii U, but it would be much more appealing for a casual gamer or a newcomer to pay 30-40$ for a game like this, especially during this arguable slow phase of Nintendo games before E3. But I don't think this is a sole Nintendo problem. Since Bethesda who are arguably the switch's best third party dev so far are charging 60$ for Skyrim and DOOM. I just hope this won't be a pattern that will follow in the next years to come.

As a person who got it on Wii U and fully completed it, I will be picking it up again on Switch. I absolutely adore this game; It currently is my 2D platformer of choice. I am disappointed with the price though, hopefully, it will drop to 40$ or less by the time I pick it up, but I will pick it up.

Also the game is amazing, it is definitely worth the price if you havn't gotten it on other consoles, but it still feels a little scummy to charge more for the port imo.

@1:18 The original Wii U release was 720p (60fps) not 1080p (60fps) like the Switch re-release. Most games on Wii U were 720p with a few exceptions like Smash. All Nintendo re-releases from Wii U to Switch so far were 720p on Wii U and simply watching a compressed KZbin video like this will not show you the actual quality difference of the Switch version.

So do we not have a right to complain about Nintendo being terribly anti consumer with this. I say it all the time. Tropical Freeze was absolutely the best Wii U game, hands down. I loved every second of it. But when a great game only gets a new mode and is more expensive then the 20 buck nintendo selects version, I don't feel you can justify it. There's a lot of heavy hitters coming out soon. Metroid Prime 4, 5mash, and at the end of the day. If all three of those games are 60 bucks, it doesn't matter how much I love the game. I'll go to the other two first. Also. The fact that a bunch of people just aren't willing to buy it will hurt sales, anf chances are Nintendo will blame the franchise and just like that, DK's second life is over.

If you've never played this game, but enjoyed platformers like Rayman Legends, Mario Bros. Wii U, or Donkey Kong Country Returns, then this game is absolutely worth the $60. I was actually surprised it was $50 on the WiiU and even more surprised when they dropped it to $20. I feel like the amount of heart and soul that went into making this game was worth way more than that. That being said, I'm going to buy it for the Switch despite having it on WiiU because I really want to try Funky Mode.

It's worth it for my Brother and Niece and Nephew who never played the game or owned a WiiU. For me... eh. I never actually finished it the first time but don't have time to play at home anymore so it might still be. If you played the WiiU version and don't care about playing it on the go it isn't worth it.

Okay so I have some problems with this video, my first one would be the title, there is no point in building the whole video up to be some sort of complaint if you're only really going to compliment and while I'm not a game critic wouldn't it have been better to tile the video "why donkey kong IS worth buying again"? It would seem like that would be better (especially if your whole channel is about nintendo games). My next problem is how you addressed funky mode, you praise it and while I also think it is a great idea you complained that nintendo made mario kart 8 deluxe too easy because they did a similar thing, you even say in that video about the smart steering that you are able to turn it off....so why is there a problem if you CAN turn off that feature just like in this game? All smart steering is doing is widening the amount of people play that game just like funky mode in this game, it seems to me that both these systems would be used mostly the same (except obviously as you point out funky mode can be used for speedrunners). The smart steering could be used by a better person if you are playing co-op as a handicap so that is it a level playing field. The last point I'm going to mention is the way that you transitioned between segments, you do it in a way that could easily be done yet you choose to take time out to explain that the way you did it despite the clunky-ness or any other reason of it, I could even demonstrate how you could do them a bit more seamlessly: " But does bringing it to the switch hampered it's gameplay or overall potential? well obviously not but it's the only way i could think to segway into preview" (that's from 0:55 to 1:02) a much easier way is to just say "But does bringing it to the switch hampered it's gameplay or overall potential? let's see!" and it would have been quicker and a much smoother segway. You also do this kind of thing when you're introducing funky mode because you say "But what about this funky new gubbins nintendo's been bleating on about?" (that's from 2:02 to 2:05) you then just talk about the new mode but it would have been simpler to just say "now let's talking about a new feature to this version of the game!" while it's roughly the same length it brings a much warmer feel to a feature you're about to praise and compare to a similar feature that you think didn't do so well. you probably won't read this but i hope that if you do you'll understand my points and not just called me self entitled or something because i voiced my thoughts, and if you don't like what i've said you 1) don't have to read it again. 2) don't have to take these as a constructive criticism towards your video.

My personal problem with Funky Kong: he's useless. I mean, these games are meant to be hard. Why take the challenge out of a challenge? I don't have anything from his addition, because hell will freeze over before I make my DKC games intentinally easier. Other than that, it's the same game, just slightly prettier and I've completed it already. Full price for the same game is a hard pill to swallow. The game was brilliant on Wii U, I'm sure it's still brilliant in Switch, just... too expensive for being a port.

If you set it on a tv, yes you will see that colors will "pop", but it will crush blacks and oversaturate colors into ranges that they were made to be shown in. Notice how much information is lost among the coins and columns in the background. Do yourself a favor. Set that switch to limited where it belongs and recalibrate your tv if you feel the colors are lacking. You're welcome.

I have just realised, this is Nintendo cashing in on not having a backward compatibility of any sort. If this console was a home console only, no doubt it would have been backward compatible with Wii U but not Wii! That hurts a little.

I never got the original because, frankly, the advertising Nintendo put out was just terrible all around during the Wii U years. I barely heard it existed, and didn't really see enough footage of Tropical Freeze to see how gorgeous it looks and how it visually ties in *so well* with Rare's trilogy(it's art looks like what I might have expected DKC 4 to look like). Just seeing more gameplay of it this time around makes it clear how well-crafted it is. Also, I'm honestly looking forward to Funky Kong as someone who isn't exactly the best gamer in the world. I'm not terrible, mind, but my motor skills are iffy thanks to dyspraxia which limits how precise I can get sometimes. The difficulty that keeps getting bandied about is the one thing that puts me on edge about buying it, but Funky Kong mode sounds fantastic. Funky Kong looks way OP but also just really fun, and I really appreciate that DK gets a small boost too so that Funky isn't the only choice for easing up the difficulty. I am definitely getting this next time I can afford a game.

Why don’t they just release it earlier digitally like they did with the Wii U Zelda wind water remake if the game has been finished for so long. Reviewers can’t review it until the embargo, it’s basically the same exact game again, sending out review copies so early seems utterly pointless.

I will say it's ridiculous that they're charging $60 for an originally $50 game released 4 years ago. That being said, I'm buying this day one, as this is potentially my favorite game made in the past 10 or so years. I don't think I've really felt so strongly positive about any other game made in that time frame. The sheer amount of depth and polish in all of the levels in the game, including how layered and carefully placed every enemy and obstacle are in almost every stage, is unparalleled by any other game ever made. The game manages to perfectly balance fun and challenge while not being unfair in most cases. The creativity is outstanding as well, though the fourth world in particular is definitely less interesting and varied than the others (besides Irate Eight). Overall, it's just an incredible game, worth $60 definitely for anyone who didn't play it the first time around, arguably worth that if you're like me and adore the game.

It really depends on your personal view if it is worth it or not. If you never played the Wii U version and/or you're desperate to play the 'NEW FUNKY MODE' then yeah it's totally worth it. However if you already played the Wii U version and/or you aren't interested in the 'NEW FUNKY MODE' then I guess no. Also that plastic surgery DK got looks awful.

I played Switch for awhile with Zelda, Xenoblade, and Mario Odyssey. The last game I fully beat was Bayonetta 2. Unless Switch has Triple A titles that come out for it, I will most likely be on the PS4 playing God of War and the upcoming Dragon Quest XI.

The original was actually 720p on Wii U making it actually an upgrade on switch. Undocked runs at a 720p matching pixel perfect resolution so on a technical level it's a nice upgrade. However 60$ for a game 4 years old at 50$ is unacceptable. If this was 29.99$ i would have bought it immediately + preorder.

I had a wii u & never owned this whilst I'm not "hyped" I do want to play this on switch. If you owned this on wii u I can understand your frustration especially with the price. Hopefully they'll be more content later on

It's 100% worth it just to play it in 1080p. It will be excellent on my 65" OLED. 720p on a large 4K screen is unbearable.

I know all u owners bought this game but I still believe it's one of the most underrated games released over the past decade. It may have been the best u game if botw would have skipped the console and I'm still surprised the game never received much attention. It's probably the game I would have recommended potential u owners to purchase first. I'm wondering if the lack of hype and coverage before and after release was due to the difficulty. This is one of those games that makes me wish Nintendo had platinum trophies simply because 100 percenting is near impossible. This remaster could possibly be those who never played the games goty.

I double dipped on the game, because who even knows if we'll ever get a new Donkey Kong game ever again. Lots of Nintendo fans made excuses for not picking up the game the first time, and they have even more excuses for not picking it up this time.

Should of added some new levels and secrets and collectibles that makes a cool port and people who played it before and you want them to drop some cash on this version it would of helped.

This shouldn’t be a full price release. I think the Wii U version was only $50 when it came out(don’t quote me on that). I think it should be at the most $40. Maybe if it came with the donkey Kong country returns and tropical freeze it would be worth $60.

I'll be buying it, I've never played it. But we need that New Super Mario Bros 3 with Hammer, Frog and Tanooki suits as well as new ones! 😎 Fire, Boomerang suits, capes ect. (Penguin suit, obviously)

I've never played the game (but played the first DKCR game on the Wii). I wonder if that will get an upgrade/remaster too? It was a fun game but I wasnt as fond of the motion controls

Personally, I found DKCR more challenging than Tropical Freeze. At any rate, I was hoping they’d create a new Donkey Kong game instead of rehashing an old one.

Now this is the look I like for games. I HATE modern first person shooters. Awful, drab colours, greys, and browns. This is how a game should look. Rich, bright colours, with cartoony graphics.

I'm a big DK Country fan, since DK1. I'll most definitely be getting this for my switch. For those complaining about the price. Really, $60 too much? What, are you saving for a house? Lol. Have you any idea how much a brand new snes game cost back in 1995? Please, don't complain

I think people are complaining because it's $20 on Wii U and $60 on switch, which is a $40 dollar increase for a 4 year old game that adds no new content other than funky mode.

I'll wait on a sale, I still don't like paying full price for just a port of a game from years ago. Maybe if they threw in Donkey Kong Country Returns from the Wii it would justify the price, just like what they did with Bayonetta 1 and 2.
