It’s not the fact that they enjoy intricate lyricism which rubs people the wrong way - it’s the way that some fans will view fans of less “lyrical” artists as less intelligent than them due to the music they digest. Which is pretentious. Another way I’ve seen it come across is when a conscious artists’ fans make generalizations about a more mainstream artist, assuming their fan base just isn’t as “woke” as them. It’s just unnecessary gatekeeping that these fans should try and refrain from. And I say that as a hardcore Lupe fan.
