I love draw a box, such a great free resource. I went down the critique route which was super useful, I made a review video with their comments too if it helps. I will be continuing this once i've asked all my 'inner' questions as i'm currently finding my own visual language. P.S sorry to hear your son hasn't been well hope he gets better soon!

Oh did you! I'd like to go down the official critique route but i really have to be careful with my budget at the moment. No new art supplies either (not that i need any!). I'll check out your drawabox videos! He is well now thankfully, back to being a wildling!

Now that’s a sketchbook! I’m definitely going to check this out. I paid for a rather pricey drawing class that stated it was “geared for beginners.” Not even remotely. I think it’s difficult for people to know how to teach the abc’s so this and 55 Keys is a great resource. Thanks again and hope you get some rest!

It's huge isn't it! It only cost £3 as well so cheap and cheerful! Yeah, I think alot of experienced artists do these things so instinctively after so many years of practice it's hard to actually break it down into actionable exercises to help beginners along! I genuinely think drawabox is brilliant so far. Thanks! My son is well again so I've had a couple night sleep (if 4-hour interrupted stints count as sleep 😊)

Why do you draw lines parallel to one another? I mean the whole purpose of this exercise is to make lines converge to one another...

I was drawing seriously everyday for over a month before I started DrawABox. I went through Lesson 0 and Lesson 1 with gusto. But after a few days of boxes, I started to draw every other day, then every 3 days. Those 250 boxes really wore down my enthusiasm for drawing. I'm hoping to get that enthusiasm back soon.

That said, I did find noticeable improvements over the beginning lessons.

Honestly, if you feel that way, start lesson 3! Then do like one box a day or something until you finish them. But even if you never do. You'll still gain so much from doing the rest of drawabox. It's okay to bend rules to work for you. Everyone learns differently. Yeah you're meant to finish the boxes first but...who cares!! If doing the lessons was helping you improve. Go to 3! 💜

I enjoy drawing rocks. I've drawn a ridiculous amount of rocks. The concept of box-drawing is brilliant but.....I don't know how many I'd be able to draw in a row without straying from the task, lol.

The creator of drawabox encourages you to to do 50% the course and match it 50% with your own drawing/art. So you don't have to just soley draw boxes 😁

Hi there! Thank you so much for the video! I was wondering if draw a box also works for digital art I like drawing on paper but I prefer digital art I have a little experience with digital art already but I wanted to know if I could do the lessons instead of on paper, digitally.

Hi! The guy who does all the lessons does them all digitally so I don't see why you couldn't do it digitally in theory. BUT He says to do with pen/ink as it forces you to really think and be considerate about each mark you are making. Really concentrate basically. So if you do it digitally I'd set yourself the restriction of no erasing for the exercises at all. No matter how tempting it may be. Having the mistakes there and not instantly erasing is such a big part of the learning process. Hope that helps!

Yeah, no worries. I think they are sponsored by new masters which are all paid for. Thankfully drawabox is still all free (unless you want official critique...which I've not done).
