What players have to understand about Dreams is the fact that most all the dreams are made by made by fellow gamers, with the exception of Media Molecule's. Of course there will be games with different quality. Not everything is going to be something spectacular. No one can be amazing overnight. And that does include games made present day too. However for every game that may not be, there is something amazing just waiting to be discovered. Games and unique experiences that you won't find anywhere else. And It's extremely quick to dreams surf games. Don't care for the particular dream your trying? You can be out of it in seconds and trying something different instead. Keep looking and your bound to find something fun. Everything is free, so it doesn't hurt to take a chance on something you may not have otherwise. And don't discount a dream just because it's a fan remake of an existing franchise. Some of them can be something truely special. Allowing you to have a unique experience with a particular game in a way you couldn't perhaps from an official game in that series. Be it experiencing the world of a gameboy game brought to life in 1st person, or a cherished classic game that gets a loving updated tribute, that fills you with nostalgia. (Fans of Donkey Kong Country have got to try Donkey Kong Odyssey) And Dreams also has original games I would argue could hold up to a AAA game comparison, in fun and quality. (Dreamscape 1 and 2 come to mind) Lastly, the Dreams community itself is a community with a lot of kind people to interact with. Not really much, if any toxicity, unlike what I've experienced from other game communities.

Can't Imagine what Dreams can become with a proper PS5 update or PC porting, and a significant thermo expansion. It could really challenge UE5. Already now Dreams is more powerful than Unity imho. Let alone how much the sales could raise if Sony and MM would add rendering and export of 3d objects and games...that would cause a blast for indie developers. Imagine being an indie developer, exporting your game from Dreams or selling it on Steam for example. Sony and MM could develop a copyright license program for games and earn even more like Epic Games did for UE. I believe that Sony and MM didn't even realize well what they have in their hands. But if they'll move too slowly, the game will die, and its potential too.

I think the lack of online multiplayer is what makes me sad. I learned how to create levels in little big planet with my friends and we would share ideas to each other. Sharing my creations with my friends and seeing react to it live felt more important. Dreams creative mode is very expansive but I kind of lost the motivation because sharing it with others is just a heart, comment, and screenshot of what they did. That and the lack of multiplayer removes some of the variety in creations. You could compete against your friends or cooperate, the versus mode in LBP2 really changed things up because more levels such as hide n seek are possible. The closest thing to a LBP4 might fortnite creative with their latest update that expands the level builder mode but still has its own problems.

As we hit Year 3 it really does sometimes feel as if Sony doesn’t know quite what to do with Dreams but I’m glad it’s still being supported on the daily. Sony PlayStation is investing big time in PC lately it seems inevitable maybe that it’ll happen? It’ll be mad if Dreams is the exception.
@spicyaura24402 жыл бұрын
While I agree Dreams is amazing and Sony doesn’t realize the potential they’re sleeping on, the game isn’t coming to PC. There are so many other better gaming engines like unity and UE4/5 that dominate the pc market. They’re free, and you can monetize your projects if they’re successful. Dreams has neither. And part of the dreams charm is that it’s the successor to lbp to a degree and will probably remain exclusive to Sony consoles. That’s what it was made for. What I believe needs to be done is they need to market the game MUCH better than they have been, and MM needs to release a big update like a ps5 version or multiplayer. In my opinion that’s the only way to really get this game back on track
@UglySofaGaming2 жыл бұрын
You raise some good points. I agree Dreams does need just something big announced to capture peoples attention again, MP and PS5 port would generate some buzz. If Dreams ever did go to PC (with exporting) it might well end up being free with Sony collecting a fee on back end of successful games. Again you’re right it would be a tough market on PC (but arguably a more suited one?). Mostly in this hypothetical I’d be interested to see how Dreams would compete as engine if 1. It was free 2. It’s limitations were unlocked. 3. It’s on PC, possibly with a mouse and keyboard control scheme shaking off the snobbery of games console game dev.

If anyone has any interest in ANY aspect that Dreams contains, it is absolutely worth buying at the present price without thought. Still no idea what the longer-term monetization of the platform is, but they lost a huge opportunity early on. I would have easily paid $100 to be able to continue on from the beta, but instead paid a needlessly cheap $30 for Early Access after being made to wait 4 months for no particular reason and then end up using a product that was nearly identical to the beta. There is a core of users of probably 10-20,000 people that fully understand, appreciate, and support a platform like this, and each likely would have done the same. We know we all have received far more than $100 worth of entertainment and enjoyment from this software.

Great video! It's been a long while since I've played Dreams, I simply fell off of it while pursuing other artistic (and more professional) PC software. It's really a shame because I was a huge advocate for the game and would've fit right in with the community (I did for a while). But for me personally, not having online multiplayer was a huge bust. Almost all my development plans revolved around making multiplayer games, so I do feel betrayed since they teased it so heavily before release. It is good to see Mm still dedicated to improving the game though, even if the updates are more under-the-hood. I hope the community keeping the platform alive flourishes and are able to maintain a tight-knit community similar to LBP's. The only other option for a UGC atmosphere on this scale is Roblox... which is extremely monetized and predatory towards younger devs. With that in mind, Dreams still has my full support even if I have no plans to play it.

Pretty good review, seems fitting. Dreams has definitely seen improvements over the last 2 years. The dream surfing/homepage has seen the most changes. It's pretty good now, showing you similar experiences, showing you whats popular and many more things. Even a way to sort by category like in the LBP games. It's pretty great. Creation mode has seen only smaller updates. Some quality of life features, which are always welcome, but otherwise, not as much imo. I think it would be somewhat easy compared to bigger engine related-features to add new textures (flecks), new shapes to work with, maybe some new options for the text displayers and the like. If the resources were free, they could even improve the engine, add more features to it like dynamic resolution for sculpts or the like. Multiplayer was a feature from the get go in LBP, it made LBP as popular and successful as it was. Dreams has no online multiplayer, and we don't hear much about it, except that it is worked on. It's easy to get pessimistic and say that Dreams is dead, or multiplayer will never come, given how little transparency there is sometimes. If we could see a progress update, or plans, it would be great. The feedback forum also feels kinda abandoned. Plenty of feedback by the community, many posts are heavily upvoted, yet none of that is added to Dreams, even stuff that was mentioned 2 years ago, which leads me to believe that MM and Sony have their own vision of Dreams, and community feedback is at most heard and welcome, but not taken into account. Makes you think you talk to a wall, with not much happening. For 30 bucks though, the amount of creations and levels you can play, even modelling or making music as hobby or something, its pretty neat. Indreams tells me i have 1400+ hours logged, so its definitely worth 30 bucks. I just think that MM could be more transparent and add in more community suggested features if possible.
@MrMOGHammer2 жыл бұрын
Have seen quite a few things mentioned in feedback forum that actually were addressed in Mm way of doing things. Sometimes they just come out with a better solution that fits more scenarios. We got that advanced calculator now and many people were asking for such game related trig and vector math functions that had to be done with a lot of logic before, eating away thermo fast. Sticker mode can provide a nice and Dreams way of creating dynamic textures on sculpts. Other improvements like paint glow even if invisible to create beautiful light effects and such, you could use that to fake real life lighting effects but in a way only Dreams knows how. You want a progress on plan, updates, and what’s in store for the near future? That’s what their Trello board is. They don’t work for us, they don’t have to provide us with a minute detail on what they are planning. In case something would be promised and not delivered that could be much more hurtful for Mm and the community than going the safe route of only telling us what they are sure to deliver. Multiplayer is coming. As well as 3D printing. It would not be on Trello at all if it wasn’t planned or worked on currently. It’s a big game with a lot of moving parts that have to all work together, so yes it does a lot of time but in the meanwhile they stick to their monthly deliveries of nice tweaks and additions to the create mode. At one point they’ll feel it’s time for multiplayer
@mdkd992 жыл бұрын
@@MrMOGHammer Oh yeah the new sticker mode and advanced calculator are neat. I like that they finally added more things like this into create mode. They are nice features to work with. Well, you could say that they dont owe us, but we as community paid for the game, and keep the game alive. I understand that not every bit of feedback is going to helpful to Dreams, and many people might not have as much outside knowledge of engines, so they dont know the limits. I think a good balance of their own vision and a bit of community feedback would be neat. We as community work with the engine all day, and so we can see what we might be missing, and MM is behind the scenes, also working with the engine, but also adding onto it, so they can see what works and what doesnt. I have btw seen the trello board. Its one of my bookmarks in my browser. I check it regularly and ask around with MM to check for updates as well. As for me, Dreams is not dead. Its very niche. But I think they gotta add multiplayer at least next year, otherwise people wont hope for it anymore and consider that abandoned.

As someone that got it on PS4, I liked the ‘construction kit’ part of dreams and by that I mean how the tutorials would give you a game level and say ‘change it and make it your own’. That was fun and very cool. However... making from scratch just took far too long and required far too much understanding of the tools. You essentially have to be a programmer to get anything more simple than a platformer or a walking simulator. Logic was just too hard and it would be a better use of time learning an actual programming language. I also feel they became even more niche by focusing on VR rather than multiplayer or PS5. Plus the early access users didn’t really make good tools for the community, instead just making what they wanted for their art which is absolutely fine but the game launched without any decent customisable puppets or non-platformer templates. People got tired of waiting and it did die. I do still like the concept of dreams though and enjoyed playing some of the games a few months ago on PS5.
@MrMOGHammer2 жыл бұрын
Tbh making VR was probably tons easier it’s basically making new controller types work with dreams, and they already got the moves part, only to figure out the headset and add some gadgets for us to control everything. Multiplayer is way much harder to make right due to the nature of dreams they need to make it so generic in scope to cover most multiplayer types and that’s not easy. There is a lot more moving parts involved
@MrMOGHammer2 жыл бұрын
About decent customizable puppet. How much more customizable can it be? You can resculpt everything, tweak a million things using the puppet tweak menu and the puppet interface to create all kinds of gameplay styles with it. I just want the ability to create/import textures and apply them to objects. Like bark for trees, rock surfaces, etc. To make a realistic rock or -anything-, you need to be ready for the thermo to take a huge hit.
@Musicplay302 жыл бұрын
@Toploaded we already have the ability to take pictures right? I can imagine that we could use in game pictures as textures too. So perhaps leave out the importing feature and implement an in game photo-texture tool.

This game is literally worse LBP to me. No multiplayer, hustle to make just a cube. It thus makes this game to harder to create in. Lack of “pre-made material textures” makes harder to make a game (you literally need to make your own texture or borrow from someone else) Etc. I just hope they make LBP-style create mode (mainly 2D)

Dreams is the weird orphan child of Sony. I can tell Sony pumped an absolutely insane amount of resources into this game, and seemingly all for naught because of the PlayStation 5 "launch" and its exclusivity to the platform. I was watching them release their starchild knowing it would fail spectacularly -- at least commercially. But it seems obvious to me now that Dreams is meant to be something more.. They are not concerned with its commercial performance, Dreams is a future platform. I know that it has likely lost Sony billions yet they persevere. I am thinking that Dreams will be integrated into this whole "metaverse" bs going on, probably an integration with game streaming via the web, although i hope i am wrong. Dreams is kind of depressing to me because it removed a lot of what made LittleBigPlanet so special, LBP had an iconic homey charm, it felt so fun, it had so much personality, wrapped in a blanket of dreams at all times, all of which beautiful and fantastical. In contrast Dreams feels too much like a commercial product.. and Sony sending over a ridiculous amount of new talent over will not help the situation. What turns people off from Dreams, and what will continue to turn people off from Dreams, is that it lacks that personal connection. It feels alien. it feels overwhelming. What happens when you give someone absolute freedom? They go insane. You need some kind of identity... something comforting... maybe these games people make in Dreams will do that for the people who get far enough, but the actual idea of "Dreams" is just a sprawling mess of ideas without any cohesive identity like Sackboy.

i think Sony should make Dreams free and offer it as a built in game in PS4 and PS5 - like they used to do with PlayStation Home. that way, the user base will definitely get big, and sony CAN afford it. there are some really great projects out there in Dreams, and i think that making dreams a free built-in game on PS4 and PS5 can really push hardware sales forward. in the end of the day, Sony owns Media Molecule so they can easily do that. its just a matter of if they WANT to do that.

Depends what you want to make and how specific you want things to be. It’s very easy to make horror games, walking simulators, platformers just kit bashing things together. Puzzles too. I love the concept of Dreams but unfortunately I don't think using this software is worth it even for entertainment purposes. There are two main problems, the first is that you have no real authorship of what you are doing. Second, and something that affects even those who are only in the game for nonchalant entertainment purposes: you depend on third parties to keep and distribute your game. That's the most problematic thing and the main reason to avoid Dreams at all costs. It is as if you, as an artist, not only have no right to keep your own paintings, but you can't even take them out of another guy's Studio that may close down at any moment and your works will be lost forever. This is totally inconceivable for anyone used to PCs and in my opinion, a strong enough reason for everyone to avoid Dreams.

Hey @sony @playstation here's an idea that would make an instant classic, it would be a Microsoft 3d movie maker like program for game consoles like PS5 Xbox series s/x, but with the unreal engine 5. With about 350 different built in actors/characters, A vast variety of vehicle models (including thousands of cars, trucks, heavy duty vehicles bikes, which are fully interactive with the environment), and thousand of props, and ability to customize or create characters (take wwe 2k22s CAW suit as a benchmark for the character/actor creation, with thousands of customizable clothing, attire, hair, and customizable body type/ built of the created characters Thousands of built in locations with thousands of different built in scenes based on different cities, like downtown Chicago, Paris,London, Washington,Dublin, New York, Las Vegas, Miami,Mexico City, Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Milan, Sydney, or beaches in Los Angeles,Mali, The Caribbean or some Mansions in Bel-Air or Beverly Hills, Ancient Palaces Wall Street, tons of landmarks from around the globe, The Mexican border rain forests, The Flavelas of Brazil, Gran canyons, suburban areas, farms, waterfalls, caves, and natural landmarks, oceans, seas, boats, planes, space, spaceships, & other planets etc, with many different camera angles. A Also the ability to design scenes and locations, and upload them along with the created characters, images and props to community creations for others to download. With optional downloadable packages that people could pay for like more scenes, actors, props, special car models special motion or actions that the actors and props can perform. It could have built in lines, from voice actors, and the option to record lines dialogue, and sound effects in movies. Props and vehicle models, etc would have their built in sound effects. And also community creations where the community can view each other's films or contribute to the same project. It would be a world where you can decide the number of extras (like if the scene is taking place in a busy city there would have an option to have busy heavy traffic with 100s of extras walking up and down the street), weather, day time, and could create explosions, special effects etc disasters. The environment and buildings would be completely interactive so doors can be open or knocked down, or a window can be broken, a character can throughstuff through a window. Buildings can catch a fire and burn,or even explode or collapse water can out the fire,e I think this would be a big hit, It would definitely revolutionize video gaming/content creating for social media. I have more insight on the project just contact me if anyone wants to dialogue about it . #3dmoviemaker @PlayStation @PlayStationUK @AskPlayStation @PlayStationEU @PlayStationCA @PlayStationAU @EpicGamesPub @RockstarGames @Housemarque

No shade, if you watch until the end of the video Im very proud of my final conclusion in this vid. I say Dreams is a powerful tool for hobbyists to show off with, it's great for beginners to start learning the basics of game creation, and it's something anyone with a creative itch should be able to appreciate. I finish by saying if this is all the game is Sony should say so. Discourse has been ruined from day 1 for this game focusing on what it should be rather than what it is. The game as it is right now if I could wave a wand and play it forever I would. Content was there, all it was missing was an audience and with the new announcement it's unlikely to ever get one. Dreams will remain playable and its community will stagger on for at least a bit. It'll be cheap as chips to buy and this video gives a great account of everything they added to the game till the point it was posted.
