Hijacking the top comment to ask "why can't I just use AI to solve DSA problems during interview ?" , sure I will have go through the basic theory and basic practice and some standard 50-100 questions. But after that I can pretty much rely on AI running on a second machine to do the heavy lifting for me. P.S currently in 4th semester, have given only 1 interview so far. I could get help from AI easily. Want to ask other people who have experience with multiple interviews to explain me why this won't work for some companies.

I never liked DSA, I always felt it is just unproductive and stupid. Though, I am doing well because of my dev experience, and in the fields of platform and site reliability engineering, I still feel DSA as big challenge to handle, while switching companies. I never did it nor I have the time to do it now. Its a struggle when you know that DSA will be of no use for you, but still you have to deal with it. I would say that its not a necessary evil but a evil made necessary.

Summary: Personal DSA Journey: Started learning Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) in college (2014) with C++. Focused heavily on competitive programming and ICPC until around 2016. Transitioned to full-time development after college but found DSA foundational for interview success without intensive re-preparation. DSA in Remote Interviews: Freelancing platforms (like Toptal) require rigorous DSA knowledge; toughest interviews in DSA are often encountered here. Smaller or ad-hoc companies usually don't emphasize DSA much. Larger companies (Series A to big tech) often have basic to moderate DSA rounds, generally manageable with standard preparation. Impact of DSA on Career: Proficiency in DSA opened significant career opportunities, including remote jobs and transitioning out of onsite roles. Missing out on DSA could mean losing potential job opportunities that value this skill set. Learning DSA Effectively: Consistency and setting goals (like preparing for ICPC) are key. Group learning and participating in contests enhance problem-solving skills. Early mastery of DSA can prevent the need for re-learning later and provides a competitive edge in job interviews. DSA in Real-world Scenarios: Although complex algorithms are rarely used in daily job tasks, strong DSA skills ensure success in interviews throughout one's career. Familiarity with DSA enables one to tackle challenging interview problems and simplifies the job-switching process.

Hi Harkirat, I need your guidance here. Please help! I am working as Python Developer at a large investment bank for the past 2 years almost now. I did my bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, which is the reason why, I didn't do any DSA in my college, only Python projects and courses in my Final year due to my heavy interest in AI and Machine Learning. But, now I want to boost my CTC as well as get more interesting work in Python and Machine Learning. Hence, looking to switch for career growth now, so what do you suggest should I be doing to prepare for the job switch? Also, I might get an admission into anyone from Top 15 Indian MBA colleges this year through CAT, so should I go for that, or just stay in Software and try to get higher packages as well as try for Global MBA colleges? The reason for choosing an MBA, is my aspiration to become an AI Manager in next five years or a decade. Your perspective would really mean a lot! Many Thanks!

Is web dev also a good domain to choose in 2024 for beginners as the emerging of ai ?
@anshul214510 ай бұрын
The usual advice I saw everybody giving was web development has sort of reached close to it's peak so not much new technology will enter the market so whatever you learn in web development now will still be relevant as long as web development is relevant (which it most likely will be) but on the other hand as AI is growing at a rapid pace, new technologies, frameworks, tools, etc and emerging rapidly so whatever tools you learn today might be irrelevant in the future because some library will take over it or something along those lines. So the majority of the people said learn web development in about 6 months and then move on to any other form of development you are interested in (which in mine and your case is AI) because you need some web development skills regardless in order to apply your AI learnings in projects and you have web development as a backup to fall back on in case something weird happens with AI in the future.

It's funny how kids listen to a guy who has never worked at FAANG xD!! It's like trying to traverse Everest with a guy who has never peaked the mountain before. Having some XYZ rank on some XYZ online judge doesn't mean you can crack FAANG interviews. It is a different ball game, and is a mix of communication skills, understanding tradeoffs and your approach to problem solving. Most FAANG interviewers won't even care about syntax or "getting the correct answer" as much as your approach to solving the problem and discussing why you chose a way of solving over the other.
