I am running an AudioTec Fisher Helix V8 MK2 for my 3 way front stage and rear fills and a Helix P One MK2 for subs. I have limited space and Helix and Brax have the best DSP’s and DSP amplifiers. The V8 75x8 at 4 ohms and 120x8 at 2 ohms and DSP on board. Helix P One does 1500-1800 watts at 1 ohm. Both are super small for what they can do.

When customers can't afford everything at once i try to have them do a DSP amp on their stock speakers with a subwoofer and then add new speakers as budget allows. Much better results than going with good speakers but no way to set them up properly
@MotoAtheist2 ай бұрын
People have been setting up car audio without DSP for decades, so DSP is hardly that dire. Most new decks have enough built in DSP to get the job done for majority of people.
@goyslop42892 ай бұрын
@MotoAtheist dsps are more tuneable than most aftermarket decks, and a must have if your using a factory radio. Anyone that does car audio somewhat seriously knows this.
@MotoAtheist2 ай бұрын
@@goyslop4289 Desirable, but not dire. Depends on their budget and goals. The majority of car audio sales are to people not looking to build showcase audio systems. People who keep the stock head unit are usually on a really tight budget and just want some improvement which typically means replacing door speakers adding a subwoofer and one amp to run it all and that maxes out their budget. You tell them they need a DSP due to the factory radio, they'll most likely rather spend that money on a new head unit which will have all the DSP they need. My head unit has DSP and EQ and gets the job done fine, my system sounds great and it wasn't some overly expensive head unit either, middle of the pack at most. The only addition I plan to make is bass restorer epicenter at some point, but it's hardly dire also. As for your "Anyone that does car audio somewhat seriously knows this." Well, that same person would also know to push for an aftermarket head unit before keeping the stock one.

I prefer to have each component separate. If the DSP is built in, and said amp fails and or a single channel fails, your out $$$. If each component is separate, it's a lot less money to replace. I always "show off" components. I've never liked descrete builds. My entire trunk layout is a "display" meant to look like a computer motherboard/circuit. With enough room for just a single 10" sub. There are amps, processors, batteries, inverters, game consoles, old school capacitors from the 90s in the trunk. No DSP though because I kept everything era appropriate for a 99' Maxima. This single 10" physically hurts my teeth on certain frequencies.

DSP is great if all of your amplification is class D. I'd like to see a company design a class A amp with built in DSP. Something like that would be reminiscent of the good ol' days where people had two or more 30-band eq's in their SQ builds.

Also- 1 more drawback for a DSP amplifier. Typically- if you're going apples to apples, same audio company providing a dsp and multichannel amplifier, compared to the same company's all in one dsp amplifier, the dsp amplifier will typically (most companies, not all) have less RMS output per channel than the standalone dsp upstream of the multichannel amplifier. Mosconi doesn't have this problem in their Pico or ONE line of products, but other audio companies may. For instance, another audio company that I use in my shop is musway, for those customers who cannot afford mosconi but want quality on a budget. Their DSP 4 channel amplifier is the M4+, which will provide 100wx4 at 4ohm RMS. Comparatively, i could set them up with the DSP68 and the non DSP 4 channel provided by musway, the FOUR.100. This amplifier is 130x4 at 4ohm RMS, Same line of thought applies the more channels you add, the 6ch dsp amplifier is 70wx6 rms and the non dsp amp is 120x6. This is a common occurance in a lot of amp brands.

@k24hybrid3 ай бұрын
Just took a brief look at the JVC smarphone app and in the "Receiver Settings" it show time alignment, EQ and the crossover you mention i imagine is "Speaker/Subwoofer/Car Settings", then you have the main components of a DSP 😁. Of course, the EQ on a regular DSP would have more featurws (like more bands, more adjustments, etc), but that stereo has nice options to play around with 😁. Very cool to see advances features in single din units, although they are normally high end and expensive 😅👍👍
@andrewkenny7422 ай бұрын
@centralcoaster33 somewhat of a dsp but nowhere near as much flexibility as a real dsp. My kenwood has some pretty solid dsp settings too but I don't use any of it having a VXi amp and waaay more flexability there.

You can get adapters for most vehicles that allow you to swap out the factory deck with an aftermarket and still keep all the steering wheel functions and any other vehicle communications intact. You can can get amp bypass kits as well for any factory amplifiers that may be installed. Some vehicles are more of a challenge then others, but there is usually a way to get it done.

Choosing the Audison Forza DSP amp was the worst decision I made when I started building my system. It overheats even when idle for just a few hours, with the trunk open and all trims removed, if the temperature is over 25°C outside. While it looks good on paper - compact, with lots of channels and plenty of power - it’s too good to be true. Don’t make the same mistake I did, or you'll waste a lot of money and time
