I am continuing to enjoy watching your older videos that were produced prior to my subscribing. Now I can add "the street" to Erin's other memorable aroma notes such as urine, dirty feet, and old rocking chair. I normally say that Josh and I seem like we have the same palate, but when he was describing the Wild Turkey, I was as confused as he was. Then he found out what it was and said he usually gets more cinnamon, which is exactly what I usually get. I really love the content of your videos and you two make such a great team. Just bought my first bottle of e.h. Taylor small batch. Really incredible experience. Wt101 is one of my absolute favorites. Taylor has no nose in comparison but I love the mouthfeel the flavor and the warm swallow. I can absolutely see the feel in the throat that she was talking about. And for the first time I can understand the earthiness that my 101 has. Well done to both of you. E.h. Taylor small batch is currently $80 at Best in Los Angeles so I'll keep it in the cabinet and drink my wild turkey with a smile. Thanks for the review.

Josh!! Surprised by the 180° you pulled once you realized you were talking smack about your fav WT line. Before the reveal you clearly preferred the EHT 🤣😂 Huge props to Erin for sticking with her blind choice! Bravo!

Josh here. The reactions are funny for sure! As a point of interest, it’s worth noting that not seen on camera is lots of back and forth tasting with time in between, where we either verify our initial impressions or find out more info that changes our initial impressions. This can take +15 minutes or so and isn’t included for obvious time reasons. If I remember this particular video correctly, the funkiness of WT101 hit me weird initially after the sweetness of EHT, but upon more sipping back to back they equalized a bit and were both good-just different (edit to add: just watched and I addressed this at the 8:17 mark). At least that’s how I feel about them non-blind-both good pours in different ways, neither of which are blowing my hair back, and I’d rather buy Rare Breed over either for the money. Erin does tend to prefer WT101 over EHT regardless though as she prefers the tempered sweetness and funky edge that Turkey offers (but at this point she’d rather have Rare Breed over either of these too). Cheers and thanks for watching and commenting Joseph!

Continue to love your content and your production quality remains top notch. While I agree with your scoring for WT101, do you think that cheaper and more readily available bottles are by default given a leg up based on your awesome scoring rubric? Would you consider adding a price you’d pay and a hunt/don’t hunt during the blind portion? You could then compare that to retail price and availability during the reveal. Keep up the great content!
@stuffandwhiskey3 жыл бұрын
So sorry this comment slipped through the cracks on us Brandon! We appreciate you watching and appreciate your comment and input. There's no such thing as a perfect scoring system of course, but we did put a lot of work into this one. What we are just now getting dialed in on is how to communicate the nuances of it, which you'll see in upcoming videos. Big answer incoming as we love this topic! What we learn during the double-blind tasting portion actually informs how we score the retail portion based on the consumers we are. We specifically only score those real world metrics on what we learn from the blind tasting itself. For instance, if we hated the pour blind but found out it was a $10 readily available product, it would get thumbs down on retail and consumer scores because we'd feel like buying it--even at $10--would be money wasted. That said, if there were an allocated product that we absolutely loved blind, it would still score very highly despite the price/hassle of tracking it down because we'd still give it at least a thumbs up on retail score and two thumbs up on consumer score. We are doubtful anything could score a 10/10 because it would be tough to be that readily available *and* that good to knock our socks off across the board, but anything is possible. That's okay though as our 0-10 scale is more like a bell curve than your traditional 0-10 scoring where most things fall in the 6-10 range. For us, poor pours will be in the 0-1 range, meh products will be in that 2-3.5 range, decent products that are good but just different and don't altogether stand out are going to fall in the 4-6.5 range, 7-8 is going to be the products that are exceptional in some way or another, and anything 8.5 or higher is pretty remarkable in our book. Hope that helps explain it better and hope we do a better job of conveying all this better in upcoming episodes!

I am not a doctor, so take this for what it is. Over the last 18 months, I have taken a keen interest in my own health. This stems from me being diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. I have been on stating and blood pressure medication for over a decade. I honestly didn't think much of it, because my entire family is on them. However, when the doctor told me I was a type 2 diabetic, I knew something needed to change. A very quick KZbin search showed me that changing my diet could correct nearly everything, if not everything entirely. So now, 18 months later, I am working with my doctor to get off of the last of my medications. I say that, to get to this. I am going to die, maybe today, maybe in 50 years, but I am going to die. If I eat a healthy diet, don't smoke, don't work in a toxic environment, i have a better chance of living longer. Maybe alcohol will shorten that span, maybe it won't. This report was done for no reason whatsoever except to be able to collect more tax revenue. That's it, nothing more, nothing less.

I have an unopened EH Taylor SmB on the bar just because I've been saving it. But WT 101 is a ridiculously good bottle. I get it for under $20 and the flavor is delicious and complex for any price point really. I honestly get a completely different profile on the palate for WT 101. No funk for me on any WT products. Maybe what you refer to as funk is just something that suits my palate. I get some light butterscotch and caramel followed with some real nice spice and cinnamon and a great finish. It's an easy and inexpensive everyday drinker that still gives you the full experience.

Lately it seems some retailers and marking EHT SmB up to $99 which is bananas money for that product. $65 on secondary was a stretch. At $50, for the presentation, it's a nice pour to have around. I like the thumbs, but I'm clueless on the need for 2 consumer scores. In my mind, break it down however you like, but it should total to 60% taste + experience, 20% price:availability:value, 20% "other" (nose, bottle, craft, uniqueness, story, coolness, whatever) In the end taste matters most. Many brands are basically unobtanium, so availability has to be considered. Other stuff should count, but not so much. For me the thing that stands out... there's no way nose and flavor should be weighted equally. My 2¢. Also, don't change on my account. I really like what you're doing, so don't mess with it!
