Great Queen song! Then you mess it up with Disney. Then Erin goes off or the Brits. You guys up too late on the stream yesterday? 😂

I had the same opinion when I had this in a flight several months ago- liked it but not for $180. I have an earlier OFBB (think it’s 2019) that I do think was worth the $$ and it wins in blinds. Great video and glad I found your channel recently!

I’m not rich. Neither am I poor. This bourbon “hobby” has definitely put a dent in the old wallet, but enjoying pours with friends and with the larger bourbon loving community has brought much enjoyment and so has been worth it. With that being said, the most I’ve ever paid for a bottle is $200 - and I’ve only done that twice (Stagg, Jr. and Weller Full Proof) - and won’t do it again. There is so much GREAT juice out there for less money. I’ll spend over $100 for what I’d consider special bottles (barrel picks, etc.), but since beginning this “journey,” I’ve definitely become more Erin and less Josh when it comes to the $$$. Sorry, Josh. ❤❤you both. 😇

Now reprogram in the real price instead of the artificial "MSRP". At the more realistic $700-900 that becomes a hard pass. The couple of samples I've had I'd even go so far as to say "over oaked hot trash".

This is a common problem. Many times over the years, I have encountered a wine or spirit that has a great flavor but fades far too fast. This isn't a bad thing if it is a relatively inexpensive bottle that I want to drink without putting a lot of thought into it, but I expect more out of high priced bottles. I wonder if the problem is that it is watered down too much. Maybe a higher strength version would hold up. If this bourbon could actually be found at the suggested retail price, maybe it wouldn't be too far out of line. I'm not quite as price sensitive; $200 is the price point at which I get really picky. Above $200 for a spirit or $50 for a wine, I expect a strong finish. If a bottle above $200 doesn't have a strong finish, it had better be unusually impressive in other ways. They need to release a cask strength Birthday Bourbon. I hate to imagine how much it would cost and how hard it would be to find. Taters would go nuts over it.

Same here. I don't buy it to keep around at home, but I recently had a pour of the standard 12-year at a bar to remind myself of what it is like. It smells wonderful, but it tastes like water that sat next to a glass of Scotch at some point in its life. I think the problem is that it is watered down and filtered too much. This style is good for beginners. Even though it isn't something I seek out, this is a Scotch that I would recommend to people who aren't accustomed to potent spirits. A cask strength version with minimal filtration would likely deliver on its promise, but it wouldn't be at all friendly toward beginners or casual drinkers.

@@heatherharrison264 I can't in good faith recommend the 12 to anyone with the price markups. There are too many other single malt offerings at better prices. I did have a few releases on my last cruise that actually had a great lingering pallate but I have't seen them in the market where I live
@heatherharrison264
@heatherharrison264 Сағат бұрын
@@edwardrice146 The 12-year is the only Macallan that is even remotely reasonably priced; other offerings are utterly absurd and I stay far away from them. As something for a beginner to try, it is probably best as a bar pour since the retail price is higher than it should be, and any decent bar is likely to have it. (For beginners, I tend to think along the lines of what they might find at bars, since that is where can easily try things without committing to entire bottles.) There certainly is beginner-level Scotch that is less expensive (i.e. Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie), but I have observed over the years that people who are relatively new to Scotch seem especially drawn to Macallan, so it is a good gateway whisky despite the higher price. Recently, my father, a long time occasional bourbon drinker who always hated Scotch, finally broke through the Scotch barrier, and it was Macallan that worked for him. Even though I'm not impressed by it, there must be something to it if it can get a long time Scotch hater to finally start to appreciate Scotch.

How crazy, I can't sleep. It's 0430 and this comes up while I'm KZbin watching. I'm doing a Total Wine and SPECS order in Dallas. There's Irish and Scotch in my order. I watched Stacie's 4 Leaf Whiskey's livestream and asked about Powers. Then I caught your livestream. And here we are. I remember Josh referring to chugging water and Irish Car Bombs. Love you two.

I look at money as time. Say a bottle cost $500 and I make $25 an hour at work. That bottle is going to cost me 20 hours of work to purchase it. For me that would not be worth it but to someone else it would be worth it . I value my time so there for I value my money. I know I would not get the same experience as the $500 bottle with a $100 bottle.

With all due respect, I don't "let her talk." She talks as much as she wants to. I'm the whiskey nerd and she doesn't commit whiskey to memory, which means these types of episodes are more "play by play" from me and "color commentary" from her. It's our dynamic, what she likes best, and what works for us.
