I am a teacher in West bengal in a Bengali medium institute. Thanks to bollywood that i know hindi so i instructthe students in Hindi. But having my education in English medium school and my mother tongue being Nepali because i belong from Darjeeling, i read all my books either in Nepali or English. I don't say my Nepali is bad but most of the time we were not allowed to speak Nepali. But our Nepali Teacher always encouraged us to love our language. So we also used to watch nepali movies and Rajesh Hamal Sir and Dilip RaiMaji sir became our favourite when we were kids. So i believe english is important. Infact every language is important. Learn as many language as u can. But never forget our very own Nepali language. हामी नेपालीले नेपाली भाषालाई माया गरेनौं भने कस्ले गर्छ? proud Nepali speaker from India. ❤

Language has been big barrier for us Nepalese. As a Nepalese, Nepali is my 2nd language, Hindi comes in 3rd due to influence of Bollywood and English is in 4th. We have to think consciously what to speak paying attention to grammatical errors, it's more like a strenuous activity for our brain. If there was only single language worldwide then we would've been far more creative, confident and express ourselves.

The main problem we faced in Nepal if we didn't know English was technology. We couldn't use tech devices cause our language or specifically implementation of our devnagari script wasn't that good in technology those days. But now, due to companies targeting indian markets, and india producing a lot of engineers, the problem has been solved and there are a lot of solutions for that problem. Currently, we can sustain in tech even without knowing English just by switching our default language to our own Nepali. Even though the code base might be written in English, LLMs can understand any language and I'm hopeful that this will also promote our own languages.

its more like in the place i studied, i learnt english more than nepali, every subject except nepali was taught in, you guessed it, english so my english is far better and more refined than my nepali could ever be even though i was born and raised here, my environment was full of nepali+english language mix so i never learnt the complex words of nepali and i only a lil bit which could also lead to me always getting a B+ in nepali even in my +2 exam this year even though i got A+ in everything else

Some steps are necessary to be taken to preserve local language of all communities but a country needs to invest in human capital to develop which is very difficult unless there is some homogenization of a language. China ma standard language across all places of education bhayera nai ramro human capital develop bhako ho. I am not the expert and know how exactly to preserve local languages , but I think each community should take some responsibility to preserve it and not blame society for that. So i think Nepali language as a standard across the country education system is good , it is a good first step to develop quality human capital for a country like our with limited resources but unfortunately we have many other problems in our education system
