I understand that people will wonder. I am giving the facts as they stand technically. In our last video I explained that we have been on the brink since December last year but most people will jump off the video before the end to make uninfomed comments because the narrative does not suit them. Thanks Dez, the problem is so many people simply don't understand the basic concept that this is an engineering issue (created by politicians over MANY years). So people literally just think that the government "decides" when to do the loadshedding!! They think the president can just go on a platform and decide FOR HIMSELF what stage we should be at. I've heard it in "real" life and on social media. Why? Ill education (hint Bela Bill to make it worse!). Then the insanity of this renewable business! Running a factory / heavy industry on a solar panel or wind blade is insanity! (and it's not even "clean" for the environment anyway - Lithium batteries don't last forever! So they have to be DUMPED somewhere!). Best solution long term nuclear whilst supplemented with our coal (and possibly gas). Correct me if I'm mistaken - always willing to be corrected!

Being involved in the construction of Matla and Dhuva and Sasol 2 in the 70's as a civil and structural engineer, people have NO CLUE to the complexities of these installations and i wish they would consult with people who actually have the technical knowledge involved in the design, construction and operation of these enormous facilities. Same with Johannesburg water where we did the pumping, storage and infrastructure for Johannesburg, as well as the ring road hugh way around Jhb. Stop the blah blah and running with every story because it fits the daily narrative. ANC govmnt sidelined us old timers that were actually involved in these projects, and are now paying the price. Us at 70 or 80 years old will not come back to repair anything and be subject to political and racist abuse. Instead of competent people you replaced with cadres, and its not going to change untill the hatred and the political narrative stops. Its rediculous the behaviour and lies of the govmnt and they dont want us there because we would expose their level of corruption and deceipt.

Why now suddenly, out of the blue load shedding again. Machines that are old, will constanrly break down, and suddenly stop breaking down, and suddenly start breaking again. Old machines simply does not work like that. But, the original design were done ectremely good. I will always salute the Eskom engineers, including you Dess.

I understand your frustration. We have been on the limit since December when national control begged for Koeberg Unit 2 to come back online a week before the sceduled date. The grid has been strained since then and they have been holding out using gas turbines and pumped storage. The load shedding is to use the power to get palmiet and Drakensberg back up to the necessary level of water and the fuel tanks filled at the gas turbines.

Agreed Des, but it's the same old record playing all over again. All because of political interference. Nothing will change until everyone goes to the poles again but we see how that turned out last year. The eskom technical staff are great and do their best BUT without increased base load capacity......NOTHING WILL CHANGE FOR THE BETTER. That unfortunately is due to government control or lack thereof to build and grow the countries infrastructure. Eskom can only work with what they have or in this case, what they haven't got.

Sorry , the coincidence of the price increase and loadshedding is too much. The story about topping up dams and diesel supplies is nonsense. They've been managing to do that for the last 10 months so why now all of a sudden is it a problem ? Just how many power station units need to suddenly go off line for us to get to Stage 4 ? We know that there was plenty of sabotage going on previously. This is more of the same.

The politicians need to recover the money from corruption deals not from the public. I don't see your reason hold strong. We at the present moment have no water no electricity. My explanation is technical. It has nothing to do with the incompetence of politicians and the reasons why Eskom are asking more money because minicipalities wont pay their bills etc. The entire situation is unacceptable.

I would like to know how these breakdowns suddenly happen in such a synchronised timing? No problems reported for the last 10 months, and suddenly, just like that, a bunch of units go out. I find it funny. If one or 2 units fail due to the heat I would understand, but stage 3 right off the bat with no proper info from eskom? The math does not math here.

The problems have been there all along but not to this extent. The trouble started in December already. Eskom has been load shedding industry for months now. They have never stopped. People only whine when it is them that are affected. We are in serious trouble.

The Old stations have also been neglected and run into the ground. Yes, they were stopped from building new generation. Government should stay out of power generation. No load shedding, the grid will collapse. Renewable power will not stabilise the grid.

Why did they stop 'pebble bed' nuclear power stations. It was a South African invention and it would work. But Zuma wanted Russia to build nuclear, because he would get a handout if it went through. All those brilliant minds that developed the technology is now working overseas.

No no no put the technical lens down for a while and pick up the finance one. The citizens do not mind increases if we can see that it is being spent frugaly and wisely. Before we talk about excessive increases we want to see people getting jail time and we want our money to be accounted for and recovered. Prison sentences that's what we need to see first. Not a chance in hell do we want to finance thieves. We want justice.

Live Power Demand found in the Dashboard of my Loadshedding app, - Demand has yet to exceed 65% of Available Capacity since loadshedding resumed. This proves you wrong. In 2023, this figure was in the high 80 - low 90%.
