To me it's about discoverability, I've found so many games I love and would never have played otherwise. Not only the indie carts, my favorite puzzle game ever is Crystal Mines II on the Lynx, which I would never have played if they didn't make a Lynx cart.

Great video, always enjoy your thoughts on Evercade. Yours was one of the first channels I watched when I entered the Evercade world in January. After a flurry of cart purchases at the beginning, I started moving carts on that I didn’t like. So a bit like you, I’d like to think everything in my collection is worthwhile (for me) and will get played properly. I’d rather get half my money back by selling off on eBay, so I can reinvest in new ones.

Thanks Phil ! Yeah, sometimes it’s good to get these carts in the hands of more interested people. It’s all about quality over quantity.

Good video PK! The only point to Evercade is the top corner edge of the carts. Lethal in the hands of a 12 year old with a brother that's been touching his stuff! 😂😂😂 Indeed, for me getting some classics at a decent resolution on a modern screen was my main reason to get Evercade. And getting to play stuff I had never played or would never buy back in the day was an added bonus. Cheers PK! 🙂👍

I like collecting for Evercade for many of the reasons you mentioned. It's on the whole, affordable although I felt the EXP was too large a price increase from the OG handheld's £60 starter pack, going up to £130 for the EXP. I'm glad Blaze have addressed this with the EXP-R pricing at under £100. Cart prices have been creeping up with the quality in some cases slipping. For me, the Alpha Bartop is fairly priced for what it is but way out of my price range with a post release price of £230! The Super Pockets are great value at £50 but I really only need one of those. I've also been trimming my Evercade cart collection down to the ones I actually like and play which has been very freeing by not having to fill those number gaps for a complete collection. Great video as always PK and keep up the awesome work!

@PKInTheUniverse 27 күн бұрын
Yeah, there really is something there for everyone with Evercade. I’m glad that EXP-R will be priced more reasonably. I’m still almost half tempted to get that. Yeah I can’t understand why blaze keeps continuing with the Numbers thing. They’ve already built a base, I feel like they shouldn’t continue to do this, but I guess it’s hard to stop since they’ve been doing it for so long. Thanks man!

Evercade scratches that old school gaming itch! So many people love physical cartridges that you just plug in and play. And yeah they fail but so does everything… even the digital on the internet will go away one day. I bet a higher percentage of Carts will last when digital libraries are toast. Nothing against the digital. Everyone is different and I say you do you and I’ll do me 🤣

as someone who didn't know anything about the Evercade before discovering your channel, this is a really helpful video. If this thing could turn into a viable Dreamcast/Turbografx/Neo Geo machine, I'd be placing an order right now.

I thought of doing a future video talking about this very thing. I feel like if they were only going to continue to make collections from the 16 bit and below era , it would make a ton of sense that they stick with what they have. But the more they’ve been dabbling into 32 bit ( and Glover 64), the more I’m thinking they really need to come out with some seriously more powerful hardware.
@humblemudgames

@@PKInTheUniverse They would have to for the systems I mentioned for sure. But if they could pull it off, it would be SO sick. Those three systems and Sega Saturn also (forgot to mention that system) all in one device with actual hardware would be sick.

Calling it a tinpot is generous, it’s more of a tin can with a bunch of holes and a string. Ever since the EXP launched i’ve heard so many horror stories about it. Never had much problems with my OG Evercades, super pocket , or VS , but anything could happen. I have a feeling the EXP-R isn’t gonna be much better. It’s like they say in chess, let the pawns go first. There have been a lot of games I’ve enjoyed on the system but man the quality on some of these systems is just indefensible.

@@ninjacape an original PlayStation system compared to most consoles today is absolutely a tin pot , and the games themselves are highly vulnerable to scratches. I also bet most of your PlayStations didn’t fail in the first 1-3years of ownership .

💯! Heck the other day I got a PS3 game and the disc looked absolutely immaculate. I popped it in my PS3 and it didn’t even work. All my other PS3 games work just fine in my PS3. I love physical media, but it certainly has its issues much like digital media.

I wish that i liked it more. I’m mixed on it. I love it and also have no use for it. It’s wild. The controller isn’t great and the mapping for another controller is abysmal.
@PKInTheUniverse
@PKInTheUniverse 24 күн бұрын
I definitely understand that. I was hyped when the VS came out. A front loading cartridge based system reminiscent of the NES. Made me feel like a kid again. And I bought several Evercade things since then, but nothing comes close to capturing the magic of that moment a few years ago. Yeah the controller is complete junk. Mine basically started falling apart and I’ve had to use electrical tape on it. I really hope Blaze moves on for the Evercade at some point and builds a better system of a higher caliber. But sadly, I think they’ll squeeze this thing for all it’s worth. I’m looking forward to Indie Heroes 4 , but honestly nothing else really peaks my interest.

Admittedly, I really only want to try an Evercade for the sake of a gadget to mess around with. A lot I've heard about them is their durability and longevity is very suspect. Most of the library isn't necessarily must-have, but there's a good number of childhood rentals that are sprinkled among the collections.

Yeah, it’s an interesting ecosystem of consoles. I’ve definitely had a few problems with a few cartridges here and there. The upside is that Blaze has pretty good customer service and can replace the cart if it doesn’t work. That being said, I know people who’ve had worse luck with them and it’s shocking they didn’t just give up. Yeah some of these compilations are so random, but I find it interesting when I like certain games on a collection that somebody else doesn’t like, but then like other games that are on that collection that I wouldn’t be interested in. Definitely feels like they’re trying to appeal to a variety of different tastes.
