Foden's work rate is underrated, probably because he's such an attacking talent. But if you watch games he's getting back in the box to intercept passes or chase down dribblers.
@FootyFan-k3l9 ай бұрын
Foden's defensive work gets slept on. He worked his ass off defensively in that Brentford game. Bigger fear is getting pushed off the ball, but the creative brilliance of Foden is worth that. Give him ALL of the keys!

It's no coincidence that Foden looked so good during 2020-2021 - when he has those free roles (False 9 season) where he can drop back and drive forward pretty much as he pleases, he looks best. In this Brentford game, he was practically in line with Erling sometimes, and while Erl draws defenders to him naturally, Foden can then slip in between the cracks and do damage. Unfortunately, Southgate doesn't have the skill to harness something like that, despite the fact that sometimes Kane does drop deeper than a traditional 9 does, leaving the striker spot infuriatingly empty sometimes. I think the formation Cams said works perfectly - Kane as a 9, with Phil behind him and floating left/right/back/forwards, Jude as the 8/10, and Rice as the 6. Saka right wing, Rashford/Grealish/Sterling left wing. Because I think we're a bit scarce on the RW, if Saka is out/injured, Foden can play there, then have Maddison take that spot with Jude. With the attacking power this England side have, we should not be losing tournaments or playing such stale football. I understand that we can't win everything, but it's the manner within which we play our games that's so worrying (and why I hate when people talk about Southgate's stats). The only time I have trust in our team is when individual players decide to make something happen - otherwise they're choked by Southgate's tactics. I genuinely don't believe we'll win anything under him. I'm happy to be proven wrong but that is not a man who knows how to win.

with foden and jude i feel like they can both play together if the manager is tactically good!. i look back on that spanish team of 2012, and del bosque had 6 midfielders starting in the final. he had xabi alonso and busi playing together so well. xavi fabregas iniesta and david silva were all in constant rotation. southgate needs to find a solution.
@karmaascendant39369 ай бұрын
Tbf that Spain team was due to like 4/5 of that front six either being club teammates or people that were raised by that clubs unique identity so they were able to rely off of shared fundamentals. I think Foden might need to start on LW because England’s only option out there that’s performing to a good enough level is Gordon and it would allow Trent to be an 8 alongside rice.

Saka is better here is why at 19 he was the man for Arsenal (4yrs now HIM) Foden has never once been FORCED to step up he can have little mins and learn from KDB, Silva, Bernardo etc. Saka is an output machine if he doesn’t play good Arsenal don’t win. If Foden doesn’t play good city still win… England now boy there’s no convo one has multiple MOTM’s in major comps the other ghosts and hold bench. Bellingham impact on madrid this season far outweighs foden's current season, they can both play together but jude is the better player, stronger on the ball, a better ball carrier than foden, eg : dribbles, lung busting solo runs and is more shooter of the ball than foden because he is more athletic. These are just some of the traits that separates jude from him
