I played football for 9 years as a offensive lineman and defensive lineman and I use to lead with my head on defence to create leverage against my bigger opponent. I now suffer from phycotic depression. My mind freezes in public. I am recluse. I suffer from physical injurys to my back. I'm very lethargic. and suffer from poor executive function witch is the worst part. no pill seem to help in the slightest infact making it worse. I pray for anyone in this situation because it is indeed hell on Earth.

I played Defensive end/tackle and I'd use my head to push em back, they had to put 2 guys on me almost every time cus I would just go in full force, and I remember the feeling of very heavy impacts on my head just rattling my brain inside my helmet (elementary to freshmen). My executive functions are fucked coupled with Adhd, and I feel like i have dementia cus I'll lose train of thought at the drop of a pin. I know I could have had it a lot worse but it's sad to know after the fact that I was just allowed to unwittingly give myself brain damage by yjust trying to do good in a fun sport. all I can say is my kids will not be doing anything like that (if and when i have some) also i'm 22.

You can wrap a spray can as much as you want but the ball will still rattle. Same goes with the brain.

As I recall a Football Quarterback (Cam Newton) changed his diet a few years ago and ended up losing his NFL contract, getting hurt and having all sorts of difficulties playing the sport. I have found that areas where I worked every day as a kid and exercised and conditioned myself seem more durable than muscles and areas where I was not so active. And I have made an effort to study sports for several years. I will never doubt the advice of a doctor in this area and I want to respect medicine and standards and my advice applies to me, myself and I and I would urge every adult with a child to think for himself as to how he wants to raise his child, but it seems to me that the more sensible work you and training you can give a kid at an early age and the better able you are to make sure your kid enjoys football in a healthy manner... as well as appropriate diet which might probably be recommended by qualified trainers and such... Surely the benefits for many kids may outweigh the risks. I guess I'm saying that make sure your kids are strong compared to other kids and it will be safe for your kid. Or as safe as possible. I guess my biggest fear would be that my child wasted his childhood doing virtually nothing... but wasn't there an ancient story about Achilles and a choice he was given... about living a long life in obscurity or a short life but living on into eternity? I guess we all have to make a choice.
