Is France SUPER Now? - War Thunder AMX-30 Super

Are French Tanks in War Thunder good now?? Or is this just another premium tank that changes nothing... War Thunder's French Tanks have never been fun to play, at least for me, but maybe the AMX-30 Super will change my mind. Let's find out!

The AMX 30 Super was an upgrade package offered by a West German consortium in the 80s. Most of the automotive parts were replaced including a new 850 hp engine and transmission. The second major part of the upgrade was bringing the FCS to an up to date standard, with a stabilizer, new vision devices and a laser rangefinder. The upgrade was mostly aimed at export customers like Saudi Arabia.

it was even called the Super AMX 30 but Gaijin fudged the name as usual. Definitely a translation issue. Which is also why you will never see the AMX Super 30,which is the same project but done by GIAT ( with their own components obv). The name will 100% get fudged during translation and Gaijin probably thinks its the exact same project which it is not (but with the extremely similar same goal and finished product)

French doctrine after WW2 was mainly "Armor is meaningless just dont get hit" so most of their tanks were designed with speed and firepower in mind. This is why most of them have meh armor even Leclerc. Besides, their doctrine also put a lot of pressure on long range combat. AMX-30 heat for example is a special HEAT round that was designed to work with rifled canons, so the case of the round spin to stabilize round while preventing warhead from spinning to not reduce effectivness of heat charge. Overall most cold war French tanks play like fast in out flank and spank or snipe tanks. You just go to position, sit there avoiding getting hit and fire back at enemies.

To be fair, a lot of early Cold War era tanks had very little armour due to the belief that HEAT rounds or shaped charges would render thick steel armour useless (it did). That was until new armour compositions and ERA/NERA came about tho

@@PanzerPaw I agree most countries designs went towards no armor best armor. Just France took it to the extreme with say AMX-13 series. Lets make smallest, fastest tank with biggest gun we can fit and they bloody did fit 105mm on it. Where most countries went "Yeah maybe we should put at least some armor just in case" France went "Pfff hold my wine because I gonna go fast" this is why Lorraine 40t is a thing simillar to Batchat 25t.

The main difference is the Stabilizer, big deciding factor for buying if you're debating BRs for a premium value. The 8.0 is SUPER wobbly.

For the super the camera zooms out more than for the normal AMX-30. It's the only difference I could spot

AMX-30 Super was a modernisation package offered by a consortium of West German companies in the late 1980. It included a new 850 HP engine with a new transmission that eliminated the previous troublesome one, a modern computarized fire control system, a laser rangefinder, a thermal sight for the gunner, a stabilization system for the armament, a better suspension and increased range. A prototype was made and showed in Saudi Arabia, but it was never purchased. For actual French vehicles players, this make all the difference. Having a stabilizer, a thermal sight and a more nervous engine really helps facing enemy tanks. The two French B2 upgraded AMX-30s don't have the stabilization and it restricts their gameplay to sniping and ambushing. Even flanking is risky because firing on the move is hazardous. The Super remove that problem. It's a pretty decent alternative to the AMX-32 also at 9.3 if you're willing to trade some firepower and minimal amounts of protection for more speed and agility. It's better than the AMX-32 105 which is plagued by being heavier while having the same engine than the basic AMX-30. But like other French MBTs between 8.0 and 9.7, the name of the game is don't get hit and fire first, ask questions later. It's very similar to the Leopard 1s in that matter which isn't surprising since they both came from the same common program after both countries decided to go their separate ways and their own design.

dart and the stabilizer could be the reason its at a much higher BR? its important to note that after the jumbo at 5.7, the next french vehicle with a stabilizer are the vehicles after 9.0. its the reason i tend to visit my japanese lineup at 8.3. the type 74 c and stb 2 have sabot, stabs and a modifiable suspension which relieves me of the stress of using the amx 30s at 8.7.

the downside of this tank is vertical guidance speed is terible. flanking with this tank is very good with the engine power but on hilly map dont expect too much

Given both AMX-30 and Leopard 1 was born from more or less cooperation between West Germany and France, so some feature of both would be there (basically little to no armour, and high speed). The cooperation collapse due to French insist using their own 105, while W German wanted British 105 (i guess).

I prefer the AMX-30 to the Leo 1 purely because it has a 20mm coax. They do the exact same thing on the flanks but the AMX-30 has a good chance of killing helicopters and light vehicles that rush.

3:45 LMFAO so happy to knock out a tank, man wish I felt that way every time i killed tanks in WT but after a decade its not that way EVER for me anymore. The BatChat 25T had a auto loader IRL and the AmX M4 and Somua and Amx50 they had a lot of tanks with autoloader.

It's because the premium pack wasn't purchased much anymore, so they removed it and put the tank back as a golden eagle premium tank. They did that previously with a lot of tanks. It's not really new.
