Graphics. If a game had advanced graphics in 2005, those graphics will nowdays be basic at best and behind at worst. In addition to that the ui design also evolved quite a bit but we still get lots of bad ui designs nowdays. When movie theaters first came to be people were shocked (in a good way) by watching a train drive towards them and fearing it is real. Nowdays nobody would pay money to see that because we wouldn't get those feelings. Stories that are only great because of the unknown but a popular move/tv show was later made so everybody already knows the ending, so it's no longer great to play. Some gaves invented new game mechanics that are great but are nowdays in most games. Making is a lot less interesting.

@@znsty this was an explaination of how games CAN stop being worth to buy. There are plenty of old games who are still as good as when they were released. Especially since graphic standards didn't improve by much in the last 10-15 years.

Outside of direct sequels, superior spiritual successors and ""live service"" bull crap, there isn't one. Graphics can be overlooked easily if the underlying game is still well built. I thought graphics were important too until I saw the reviews and experience of Cruelty Squad.

In times of games having battle passes got entire game on steam sale for 2.99 :DD feels like a steal for such solid crafted game

The issue with Frostpunk isn't "now" or "then", it's that the game has very little replay value, because every run feels pretty much the same. But if you've never played it, it's as worth buying today as when it came out.

So there isn't a free play/challenge mode with random events/shuffled scoutable wilderness to play after the main campaign?

@@zacziggarot - It's still essentially the same thing. The main challenge in the game is figuring out the correct layout / priorities for your city. Once you've learned that, you're going to do it pretty much the same way every time, because radically different designs are simply not viable (as they are in other games like ONI, Cities Skylines, Rimworld, etc.).

Are these games for old people? Because I didn’t think I would like this genre but picked up Manor Lords on the steam sale and can’t stop playing it and am heavily considering this one. I’m normally more of a Total War and Paradox 4X strategy player but I’ve suddenly realized the appeal of this genre.

The visual artstyle is gorgeous. Idk your personal preferences when it comes to games but it depends what you value more. The survival aspect of it is pretty harsh and demanding, in about a 2-3 hr play session you will be anxious the entire time. There is very little rest and when you do it feels like the calm before the storm. So if you’re looking for a pure sim game I would hesitate although it is only 4 bucks right now. You can have endless mode runs with different prebuilt terrains and alter the difficulty BUT there is no scaling so it’s a drastic change and changing one peg drastically changes the survival aspect making it null and void. I’d say it’s worth simply because of the 4$ price tag

@@Apollo_____ Let’s just say I’m a huge fan of The Thing and this really appealed to me and I went ahead and bought it. I only got to play for a few minutes and can tell it’s going to be challenging I’ve really needed something new and this genre may just be it. Thanks for the heads up though!

Other city builders/resource management games I would suggest is anything from the Anno series, even the old ones. Farthest Frontier is also good if you like the farm management in Manor Lords. Farthest Frontier does it better in my opinion, and is a much more complete game.

@@quor2243 I'm REALLY digging Frost Punk even though I've had to restart multiple times because of those damned uppity Londoners. I never thought resource management could be this engrossing. I'm actually really looking forward to The Crust but will wait to see how it performs with the reviews.

$3.99 on PlayStation store. Civ 6 is boring and Tropico 6 has a game breaking glitch on campaign mode if mine gold early. So idk if I wanna buy this game.

There is a very easy way to decide whether a game is "worth buying in " or not: Download an """extended trial version""" of the game and play it. Did you like the game? Great! That means it's *probably* worth buying. If you didn't like it, just delete it from your PC. It's really that simple.
