I bought into all the F360 hype generated by Titans of CNC and other online creators 5-6 years ago and went out to buy a 1 year license. That 1 year was like playing an unfinished video game. Now Titans of CNC don't use F360 and neither do I 🤣I shopped around and bought a superior product with a perpetual license, i got it at the same price as about 4 years of F360 + machining extensions. Subscription models are crazy!

It's not for everyone, no software is. They all have their strengths and weaknesses but it's fair to say Fusion 360 has developed a lot since you last touched it 5-6 years ago. Do remember it was only 4 years old at that point in time, and no doubt priced accordingly. We love SOLIDWORKS but they are going through similar with their Makers license at the moment just to draw a comparison on how these things come together. I would add given it's so easy (free) to access for 3D modelling it's not hard for people to give Fusion 360 a crack and find out if it's for them or not at least. What are you using now? - Taz.

@fokjohnpainkiller subscriptions aren't that bad when you consider you end up paying maintenance licenses anyway on software you own 'outright'. Those guys don't, and shouldn't be expected to work for free. The point is you are still paying when you're at that level using it for commercial purposes whether it's monthly or in lump sums any time something breaks and you're told nothing can be done other than for you to pay for an update that fixes the issue. No one is mucking about thinking about it when customers, staff and machines are waiting, and you can't just swtich software at the drop of a hat. They get you one way or another 😂 All you can do is find something that has the lesser of the evils you will tolerate really, and if you're using it all correctly none of that will matter 🤘 - Taz.

I also really, REALLY hate the move to subscriptions, for any software - I can understand the supplier's reasoning, but that initial payment should be 'invested' to cover future developments. However, that besides, as with anything the trick is to take one's time, figure out what you dedinitely want/need, what you definitely don't want/need, and what it would be nice to have - then make the call and hope you got it right.
