I think Fred McGriff is a phenomenal player. But Stanton's postseason performances have been incredible too. Last year was just homers, but the several before that he turned up big time every postseason. And I think there is room in the HOF for truly historic players. And Stanton is arguably the strongest, most powerful natural player in MLB history. If he gets to the lofty 500 homer mark, I think he gets in.

He has 401 home runs right now and there are 20 games left in the season. Let's say he hits another 8 home runs in the final 20 games left on this season, he will finish this season with 30 homeruns and 409 homeruns for his career. I think he has 4 years left on his contract. If he just hits 22 on 3 of the four and then 23 in one of those, he has 500 home runs. unless he has a season ending injury in one of those 4 years, he will get to 500 homeruns, there is no question about. He also miss a bunch of games this season so he would have had 30 homeruns already.

If he keeps posting negative WAR seasons, then no. And if you take a long hard look at him, can you really see any kind of avenue to where he becomes a different player than he is right now? I personally can't. On that basis, even if he does get to 500, I'd say it's a no. Will be really interesting to find out when his ballot comes around.
