According to Fangraphs, Torres has -7 Defensive Runs Saved, which places him 153rd of 157 players who have played at least an inning at 2nd base this season in MLB. Serious question; not trying to troll: is there any defensive metric that has Torres as an average fielder?

You miss the point Michael- he is taking off the batting gloves rather than continuing to try to elude being tagged out. There are many advantages to trying to evade. It buys time so teammates may progress on base paths and possibly even score AND as caller said - the more times you force defense to make throws and make plays the more likely they are to make errors. So yeah Kay - there really is no legit defense to Torres often lazy uninspired and dull play. Still he can usually hit well, I’ll give him that.

Admit it Torres has checked out mentally this season. The Yankees did offer him a contract extension, which I believe put Torres in a bit of a funk, then he got off to a slow start both offensively and defensively, resulting in him pressing, trying to pull every outside pitch out of the park, resulting in weak ground-outs, pop-ups, and hitting into a ton of double plays, and I believe when he realized he had cost himself a couple of zeros on his next contract, he tried turning things around offensively, but his mind is obviously not in the game as a Yankees any longer.

If you're an average player that's lazy that makes you below average. And below average is not good.. Yankees fans pick on other players when they're not playing well but by far the most common and regular player that gets criticized is Torres.

His lack of hustle has driven me nuts since he has become a Yankee. Trade him already! This isn't the first, second, or 1000th time that he hasn't put much effort into his game. Why are we even comparing him to Rice? You can't even make that comparison. Rice has played how many games at 1st? How many has Torres played at 2nd? What a tool!

@@juanmelendez307 I find that not to be a defense at all but more indigent but it sounds reasonable to me. The important typo/omission to fix is that yanks did NOT offer him an extension. That is probably how we all read it anyway but just for clarity. Gleyber tends to wear his heart on his sleeve and it could be loveable or endearing as a friend, relation or partner but in baseball at the highest level it tends to be an impediment I think.

😮they Cashman have had 8 years to figure this out. His numbers, ability and attitude haven't changed. Last year probably his best year you should have dealt him. Just like holding onto Gary Sanchez because occasionally he runs into one. Cashman is a horrible GM

I can't speak for everyone else, but I'm only getting on Gleyber because he doesn't hustle, and for saying "I'm a second baseman" when asked what he thought of potentially moving to third to help the team. Contrast that with Oswaldo Cabrera, who when asked what his preferred position was, replied "whatever position they ask me to play that game." I don't boo results, I boo lack of effort and being unwilling to do whatever it takes to help the team. If they asked Judge to play Shortstop, he would play shortstop. Gleyber has got to go, his attitude and lack of hustle can only hurt team chemistry.

@@snerdterguson Oswaldo Cabrera is a utility guy looking for a job. He's played multiple positions for awhile now. Gleyber was tried out at SS and we got on him for not being good there so I don't have an issue with him not wanting to move again, in a year that's already gone wrong, in front of a fan base that hates him when he's got to try and get a contract somewhere next year. Ultimately it doesn't really matter. Cause when Gleyber is gone, we're just gonna turn on the next guy to soothe our entitlement. It's not about Gleyber. It wasn't about Donaldson or Hicks or Gallo either.
