Regarding the title, the thing is Gohan never really liked fighting. He was forced into it because of who his dad is and the state of the world. Now that the world has been relatively at peace, Gohan had more time to focus on the things he really wants to do.

yeah but they need to decide if gohan actually hates fighting or not because it seems he can do either nothing and still beat goku ( beast gohan ), or secretly train when no one looking to get all that strength. because I hated the super hero movie when there was this whole point about gohan doing nothing and being weak and then he gets his beast form like ok

While RoF Gohan gets tons of hate, it’s amazing for Gohan and represents the importance of his power and his misused potential. He ends up becoming responsible for his family and worlds protection due to his insane combat potential. RoF shows the results of his irresponsibility and should had been used to direct him in Dbs. Unfortunately many fans eat up Gohan’s [unearned] power growth for the sake of him remaining relevant and dominant. Gohan deserves more personal struggle to truly accentuate his character. Hopefully the new Dbs Arc will represent Gohan right

@@incription If it makes you feel any better in the movie it there were 2 instances that showed Gohan wasn't rusty. Piccolo became worried Gohan became rusty this would be the 3rd time in the show but, he tried ambushing Gohan with a punch which Gohan blocked proving he is keeping up with his training. The 2nd time is when he used the special beam cannon to which he says he was secretly training. So he wasn't rusty getting his beast form.

I've honestly always liked that route for gohan. Gohan being the chracter that doesn't like fighting but will when he has to sounds cool and like a nice change of pace when compared to goku and vegeta, although I havent seen super hero yet so I don't know what hes like in that

Kid Buu being reincarnated is a throw away because we already knew about him since he was introduced at the end of Z as a kid named Uub. They just had to confirm he was still canon.

Recaps are actually not common in Dragon Ball, this episode is famous for it because Toei needed time to animate the other episodes and just reused footage to gain time Animation was a big problem in the first 30 or so episodes of Super, the anime started without much pre-production time which lead to episode 5's meme animation and some later episodes like 26 known for its bad animation, and in episode 30 Toei was still trying to recover from Super's rough start And if i'm not mistaken this fourth wall break of the narrator is unique to the dub, they tried to make it less awkward

While fans' disappointments that Gohan stopped fighting are valid, it is important to remember that that ever since he was literally four years old he never wanted to fight and wanted to pursue an intellectual life path. He only kept fighting as much as he did till the end of the Cell saga because he felt it was necessary. Piccolo knows this, that's why he yelled at Goku for not realizing this when the latter threw Gohan into the ring with Cell. ...Piccolo = BEST DAD

@@cyberangel3022 to be fair even piccolo in the saiyan saga sees gohan as nothing more than a tool for protecting the earth against the saiyans , it wasn't until he sees a little boy in him that he sees his mistake and thus sacrifices his life to save gohan which is what happened in the cell saga with goku with him first time seeing gohan as a scared boy who is given the spotlight this was the side of gohan goku has never seen before.

To be fair, Gohan would never really be opposed to fighting either, Gohan in buu stops criminals casually cause he can and was pretty eager to fight dabura and not just to stop buu cause literally none of them took that seriously. Gohan not being willing to fight or kill in Cell sometimes feels kinda...not out of no where since it was established but like it shouldn't be an issue when he has no trouble fighting people like Freeza soldiers or Freeza himself if he has to.

Post-RoF, Gohan trains fairly frequently in his free time. It's said at various points, implied once or twice, and it's even shown a couple times too like here. So he isn't as rusty as many would have you believe in the second half of Super.

Just one side note as well Ishinobi on Gohan is that he actually gave up fighting slightly during or rather just before all the chaos of the Buu arc kicked in. And during the beginning of that arc is when Goku got to first meet Goten.

This episode was so dumb but also so important xD. It's pure flashback and recap of stuff we already know. But it was important because Dragon ball animators needed it. The animation of DBS was suffering for the short pre-production time they had. So any episode like this that requires very little animation was worth a ton.

Typically when an anime has a recap episode like this, it means the production schedule for the show is... well it's not the best to put it nicely lol. And Super's production schedule was notoriously rushed and got screwed over since day 1 so it's easier to make an episode from already made animation just to meet their deadlines. Piccolo was the strongest Z fighter after he fused with Kami, but before anybody used the Time Chamber. He’s at least as strong as Android 17 by the end of Z, presumably even stronger. He was able to more or less hold his own versus the Cell Jrs, at least 1 on 1, and they’re as strong as Perfect Cell’s restrained power. Piccolo is a savage and he gets the shortest end of the worst stick sometimes

freeza really opened my eyes, boy why did you close them, vegeta warned you not to go soft even in times of peace, you did multiple times. you couldn't stop majin buu and even got absorbed by him after obtaining mythic. Gohan doesn’t have any strong desire to fight he never had throughout all of Z he fought because he needed to but he hated it, post cell he doesn’t hate fighting but he doesn’t have that thirst for battle and his goal was to become a scholar
