There is a big misconception about gold. The main purpose of gold is not for investment, or even as an inflation hedge. It is a chaos hedge, when the financial system collaspe or world war breaks out and dollar becomes worth-less as trust in the system evaporates. Yes these are extreme black swan events and have extremely low probability of happening, but extremely high impact too. In these times, gold is the main timeless currency that will hold strong and will go to the moon. And that is also the time when it is too late to enter, just like one doesn't buy insurance only when one has a serious illness. Similar to an insurance plan, to hedge against a low probability-high impact event. And you don't care about the "returns" of your insurance plans or buy them to sell them at a higher price in the future.

Morgan said “Gold is real money everything else is credit” Technically, all fiat money we using now are debts in a way, operate on fractional banking system, all fiat money will lose value over time. 1kg of gold during Roman empire purchasing power is some how almost the same purchasing power as now, it retain her value over the long run... No fiat money last forever. Most government central bank are net gold buyer in the recent years. For example: Holding around 140 billion in physical gold allow Russia to have some breathing space after the American place sanction on her and freeze her USD and Euro... Gold have no counter party risk... Just my 2 cents...

Based on my 2cents observation, gold price perform differently based on it its underlying currency that its trading against. The west has been calling to buy gold as they know that USD is likely to weaken even further in the next decade. However, when investors are residing region like in Asia, the currencies are likely to strengthen in the next decade resulting gold prices will underperform. So it all depend on which region one is living in and the strength of the currencies one is holding

Agreed that buying gold as investment for wealth growth is not a suitable choice as compared to equities, however as you have described, gold is not correlated to stock market, hence it is usually a good diversification option as a store of value.

Kelvin Gold doesn’t just equate to money, it is truly beautiful and majority agree that it has intrinsic and extrinsic value. If not it won’t be valued since history till now. Of course we should diversify and invest other ways, but I feel that holding gold is more than an investment. For example I use gold for worship, and I wore a gold chain as I feel good about it. 😊

Hi Kelvin, just a note about the decreasing uses of gold in technology that you mentioned. The reason that the manufacturers are finding alternative materials to replace gold is also due to its inflation hedge properties (ie it gets more expensive as time goes by to continue using gold as raw material because the price of gold is keeping with the times or going up). It's all about the bottom line. if the manufacturer can replace a gram of gold with say copper and the functionality is the same on its end product, the profit margin goes up and they will be able to afford caifan with fish everyday. Savvy?

You dont buy gold/silver to make money. You buy gold/silver so that when the dollar implodes you still have at least 50% of its value stored away in gold for the next dollar. We scrap dollars for new dollars every 60-80 years.

Do you realize why Russia money need to back by gold ..... Although Russia and Ukraine war started but doesn't have so much impact on Russia economy... it is because they are currency back by gold.... If your currency does not back by anything... Gold doesn't make you rich, it helps you stay rich. Stock can produce returns but it comes with its risk as well i.e. 1 bad investment burn always years of returns. It all boils down to your finance objective. Cant say it generate more returns = best investment option, liddat crypto is the best investment ??? This is misleading content. Diversification across asset class is key.

First, inflation started last year 2021 long before Russian Ukrainian war. America is the culprit because they printed too much money and they disrupted supply chain with trade and technology war. Second, I agree with you the problem of gold investment is timing. Lastly, this time the American market may not be able to resume its artificially perfect upward linear performance which was a bubble of the last 12 years as a result of American continuous QE plus low interest rate monetary policy since 2008 subprime mortgage crisis. As a result dollar cost averaging might not work.
