In all honesty, I think that Guadalajara is a very safe destination. Anybody that has traveled around the world and who has freely traveled throughout countries like Colombia, Dominican Republic, Belize, Guatemala even many European capitals like Paris, London, and Rome, will feel that Guadalajara feels much much safer than many of those places. If you are from any large city in the USA, Guadalajara may feel much safer. Guadalajara is a huge modern and colonial city. Don't hang out in the ghetto areas at night, there are plenty of nice areas to be in. As long as you use common sense and don't dress fancy and get drunk at 3 in the morning and try to stumble home you should be fine. Just use common sense. If it ain't cool to do in your home town, it probably ain't cool to do here.

Thank you for recording in my beautiful birthplace city. I currently live in Aguascalientes. It's very safe here. Less traffic, clean, a little colder, and nice. It's only about 2 and a half hours away from Guadalajara. For the most part everyone is safe unless you go to the states or cities that have alot of cartel turf wars. Cartels don't pick on you unless you are involved or have messed with one of there people. I was raised in Houston since the age of 1. I been in Mexico since 2012. I love to travel and never have I once seen, been stopped, been messed with, or seen cadavers hagging. I'm not trying to say it doesnt exist or that it has never happend, I'm just saying that I have never seen it. Here is an example : It's like Detroit. If you go into the hood in the middle of the night, what do you think will happen? Basically, if you know how it gets then why do you go. It's the same here. Not because crime rate is high in certain areas does it mean the whole country is unsafe.

Thanks for this. So many of these older expats have no idea about street smarts because they typically lived their lives in suburbs. My wife and I were thinking about checking out and moving to guadalajara from mazatlan earlier this year before the rona. I was concerned because of armed phone snatching. Getting robbed sugs but getting a phone stolen with a gun is rough. I've lived in a couple places in Mexico so far and some times places can shift quickly do to "business". The bad wind can blow in. Luckily as expats we are nimble. Loved the part about trusting your intuition and I believe you said "holy spirit". Love that. So true. Love y'all's videos and spirit

Funny, of all the places we visited in Mex (including CDMX and Puebla), Guadalajara is the only city that made me nervous. It might be because Guad is so spread out - so auto focused - that you do not see a lot of other people walking on the street. Also, the side streets seem very dark compared to other cities. Anyway, we were there in Dec. 2017 and went to a great Christmas light/music show just after sunset in the plaza in front of the Teatro Degollado (highly recommended - there was also a choir). I did not want to walk back to Colonia Americana after dark - it seemed really deserted in Centro at night. (So we took a romantic horse and buggy ride one way down Av Vallarta from Centro to Chapultapec). In contrast, centro Puebla, Oaxaca, Merida, etc are all buzzing after dark with pedestrians. One more Christmas recommendation - there is a little theme park in Americana at Av de la Paz and Calle Colonias. It might be closed this year - but see if you can get info. We really enjoyed it (and they had fireworks every night that we could see from our Air BnB). Stay safe and thanks for the virtual vacation!

Interesting video sounds like you really have to be on guard there. I think I'm more of a town person, I need to me able to wear my jewelry and nice clothes in public at least when going out. Thanks for the info!!!

Do you feel it is safe for a woman living solo?
@TheYarbros3 жыл бұрын
Yes, we think a solo female traveler here. We know a few that are here living their best lives. Just need to be mindful and aware of your surroundings.

I'm from the US and ethnically I'm Chinese. I've been to GDL several times over a few years and I've never had any issues. Even went out to Lake Chapala to see what's going on out there. The only time anyone said "Chinese" near me was at Puerto Vallarta. That came from a younger person who was probably in his late teens or just maybe 20. He probably didn't think that I might understand him. You know often times when someone is different in some way it is pointed out by a younger person. At least that's what I've noticed over the years of traveling around.

Hey guys there’s not “safe” city in this world 🌎 so I live in Miami and two days ago there was a open gunfire inside the biggest mall in Miami so I don’t know where you live but keep that in mind

Just like any other country, theres some bad neighbourhoods. Just stick to places that you already know. Always use some comun sense and stay alert thats all. I never wear anything fancy like jewelry, watches etc... Just a nornal person wearing normal clothes

I was much more scared in Texas than In Guadalajara, of course for me Guadalajara is only temp because of the healthcare, but also where I was born in Guerrero, some locations are evil, but Guadalajara nah, just see who you hang around and what you are doing

.When I lived in GDL in 1980, the police had an active program to deter citizens from carrying firearms called “Campana de Despistolización”. You could expect to turn a random corner and be confronted by a dozen or more police in SWAT style fatigues carrying automatic weapons ready to search your vehicle and pat you down for a concealed pistol. Check points were set up and moved around, so you never knew where they would appear. Despite this atmosphere, I almost always felt safe in Guadalajara. You instinctively knew places to avoid, especially after dark. I agree with your assessment and the need for situational awareness and avoid calling attention to yourself. Great video !
