'Heugh' is pronounced differently depending on where in NE England you happen to be. On Hartlepool headland it's 'yuff'. The legend of the monkey didn't originate in Hartlepool. It was brought there in the 1840s by migrant workers, some think from the Aberdeen area, who were employed by rival railway companies excavating new docks so they could export coal from the Durham mines. The story might have been forgotten but for Hartlepool Rovers rugby club, who in the 1890s were successful enough to have fixtures all over the country, and would hang the effigy of a monkey from the crossbar at every ground they visited.

just watched a vid of a couple in Glasgow they paid £7 for a cup of coffee!! yet they could have had a breakfast cheaper. I am from up the road at Peterlee and since I left in the 1970's Hartlepool has certainly changed.

Wow that was some kittiwake / seagull poo . Where we live we’re not far from some amazing starling murmurations in the winter , they are beautiful but where they come into land there’s stinky 💩everywhere 😳. Another great vlog, you pair don’t half get around 😂xx

You should have been there in 1947. with 6' (2m) ice floes all along the tideline. Are there still drifts of sea--coal building up along the same beach?

Two tier promenade ? Have you told Keir ? I was seconded from Redcar Steelworks to Hartlepool South Steelworks before it was all knocked down, years ago. I enquired about the famous Hartlepool monkey, while i was there. They said that the hartlepudlians caught it but they took it to Stockton Malitia and they hung it ?

I like Hartlepool, we've been a few times and stopped in the Travelodge on the marina, it's not bad, but same as anywhere, you have good and bad spots,. I bet there's bad spots in Barnsley, i know there is in Rotherham, it's not all good like everyone thinks😂

The kittiwakes are protected so they can’t be moved on. The homes, pubs and businesses just have to put up with them as best they can.

Our bad reputation stops a lot of people from visiting. This is a very picturesque part of the North East Coast and not all of the residents are like Andycap. Like all towns there are areas which leave a lot to be desired but overall Hartlepool is a great place to live and visit. Up the chimp chokers. LOL.
