My name is Niki. I am a former high school chemistry & biology public school teacher turned homeschool mom of 4 kiddos. We are a secular homeschooling family, with a laid back schooling style. I'm a busy WAHM who just tries to stay afloat some days. But we would never change a thing!
I would love to get to know you better down in the comments, and I hope you'll stay awhile and chat ❤️

HI, there! We just finished our 1st year of homeschool. All of the challenges are well worth it❗️ I won't miss any moments of discovery that my child experiences. Reflecting on my childhood, I learned a LOT of things to soon, by listening to my peers around me. So with homeschooling, we can avoid that, at least for the most part😊❗️ Last, the pace. Just winging it, going at our own pace. Makes all the difference. Thank you for sharing❗️❗️

Homeschooling has definitely taught me to have a lot more patience. Some days can be tough, but it's taught how to work together as a family. One of my favorite things is seeing that "aha" moment in my kids. When something they are working on finally clicks and you should that learning explode. I would be missing all of that if they were in public school.

Isn't "aha" moments the greatest!! It was my favorite part of being a schoolteacher and it is my favorite part of homeschooling! Worth every second of struggle!

I agree homeschooling isn’t the easiest road to travel but I’m glad we homeschool!!! I learned as a teenager the things that are worth it are often the hardest things!!! My husband feels that he needs to teach our kids things earlier than I expected but I’m seeing the fruit of it!!! If they learned it in public school they wouldn’t be as mature!!! After starting to homeschool I started to think of why school takes 8 hrs and I saw school as childcare instead of education!!!

Unfortunately, it is true. The majority of the school day in a group setting is spending managing behavior rather than learning. They have no choice. It's hard to keep 30+ kids in seats sitting still!!!

Totally worth it. I want to spend more time with my kids than essentially strangers in a traditional public school environment. We are definitely going through a rough patch now and the freedom to just say okay we are taking the rest of today off from learning is what keeps my sanity sometimes.

So many of the same reasons I love homeschooling. Flexibility and yes, unfortunately, deaths in the family. We started school much later last fall after my mom passed away. I can't imagine my kids having to go straight to school after such a significant loss in their lives. We needed time to grieve. There are happier reasons too, but the sad reasons matter just as much.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom's passing. I'm so glad you guys had the time to grieve together. I agree that they are many happy reasons, but the sad reason make it worth it as well! Thanks for sharing your experience. Sending big hugs to your family.

Thank you for this video. It came up in my suggested section. I appreciate your honesty about struggling with patience with your children. I’m planning to homeschool starting next year and losing my patience with school is something that scares me because I struggle with it too. I like the idea of taking a 10 minute break!

I'm glad to hear this! It is a struggle. Being prepared for dealing with it is going to make such a difference rather than feeling about it happening. 10 minutes cool downs really do help us a ton!
