Hey I'm a HK resident originally from Scotland, been here 26 years! Your video just randomly got suggested in my KZbin feed. I must say you did a really nice job with this video not just showing all the typical hustle and bustle of TST Nathan Road etc but also the other side of HK such as Shek O village and beach. HK land mass is actually around 65 percent designated as protected 'country park' ( so no development of any kind permitted) with amazing hiking trails cut through them to enjoy in the cooler months from late October until mid May. 😎

That's awesome! 😃 We're glad you connected with our video! Thanks a lot for watching and unique nice comment! It's great to know that there are still so many places to discover in Hong Kong. We agree that the country parks are a real treasure and make the city such a unique place to live. It's amazing how quickly you can escape the hustle and bustle and find yourself surrounded by nature :) We are curious what are your impressions after a 26-year stay in Hong Kong? More pros or cons?

@@HandzelTravelHey thanks so much for replying back! 🙏 As for your question, definitely many more pros than cons for HK from my perspective. I really consider HK as my home now after such a long time. For me the pros include - Career advancement opportunity Easy to make friends Lots of nature/hiking/ outlying islands/ boat trips ( aka junk trips) etc to enjoy Great nightlife Amazing food selection from Michelin star restaurants ( we have around 80 I believe) to small cafes / dim sum places English is 1 of the 3 main languages so all official documents etc are in English and people can speak English. ( I have learned Cantonese too though) You can get PR after 7 years so after that no visa requirements, you can vote etc. Low tax ( 15 percent max) High quality free hospitals, schools, universities Very good cheap integrated public transport Low crime, very safe to walk around at night Has seasonal cool weather unlike say Thailand or Singapore. Local people are very honest, I lost my wallet multiple times got it back every time. HK people also rated top #3 for IQ globally. ( Yes there is a global iq chart 😂) Cons The biggest by a mile is accomodation costs and what you get for your money. The HK property market is actually currently 40 percent lower than the high of 2017 but STILL incredibly expensive. A basic 350 sq feet shoe box on HK island will cost you over 1m USD, sometimes much more. HK is ranked #1 globally for most unaffordable housing. Can be a very expensive city generally despite low tax and high salary environment for many expats. Going out drinking etc can be very expensive Air pollution can be a big issue at times ( this aspect has improved A LOT in the last 10 years though) Political situation in recent times has been a big problem. Now HK is calm again but obviously things have changed. We still have much more personal freedom than mainland China but obviously it's less than before. But truthfully for me much more positives than negatives. Nowhere is perfect and HK of course isn't either but I think it's an amazing city and I have lived in London for 5 years and NYC for 2.5 years and I personally much prefer HK.
