I'm sorry, but playing Zero Dawn with minimal effort does not do justice to the game's rich and nuanced lore and characters. Aloy's character, in particular, is incredibly complex and struggles with interpersonal relationships due to her past. However, in Forbidden West, she continues to evolve and improve her relationships with others while acknowledging that she cannot save the world alone. AND! Aloy is a queer character, it's important to note that she is not exclusively a lesbian. By investing more time and effort into the game, you would have been able to appreciate the depth and intricacy of her character and relationships.

Personally, I love the combat system in the horizon franchise, it's super unique and makes every weapon feel like something different, even though they're just bows, and for the fluidity, I think it does just fine, as yes the combat gets a bit slow with just one human or small machine, that just rewards you for taking them all out in quick succession, and the dread you get when turning a corner, only to find a thunderjaw or slaughterspine standing there... it's simply marvelous.

I love Horizon's combat. There's a lot of strategy involved in the machine encounters. Aloy is basically prep-time Batman, and when something goes according to plan, that feeling is unparalleled in gaming. However, human combat does need some work. It's much better in HFW than in HZD, but Aloy is missing some key abilities (blocking/parry) in order to make it feel satisfying.

I recently discovered your channel and I am glad I did. Your intro was excellent. Coming back to Horizon. For the life of me I couldn’t understand how reviewers are raving about the game but I never enjoyed it. I always used to start it and then switch to something else. Thank you for making me believe I haven’t lost it 😂 I personally felt that there was no “incentive” for me to put aside and invest time and effort after I am done with work. Didn’t connect with the character or what they are trying to do. For example in Ghost Of Tsushima the missions are repetitive but the side story and combat system is top notch which kept me engaged. God of war had great story and music which makes you relate with Kratos and Loki. Detroit is one of those games as well which keeps you hooked simply based on story and character development.

The combat for this game was quite enjoyable but man did it feel overwhelming with so many tools and useless stuff you won't probably need overall. Positives: The world The graphics The characters surrounding Aloy The flying and underwater was a nice touch to the gameplay Negatives: Over exposition Aloy talking over the puzzles

I wasn't keen on the melee combat either. When I finished the game I was 2 or 3 trophies short of the platinum and 1 of them was the melee pits, I got it in the end but they were a nightmare.

I have to halfway agree with you on the combat. Yes they need to improve the combat against humans, but I thought the combat against machines were fine to me (although the Stormbird were a pain in the second game). I also halfway agree with the story, the first game was chef's kiss they were key'd in on the focal points for the story, but the second game story were all over the place and that focal points of the story didn't match the trailer, however (minus the les scene which I didn't care for) the DLC story saved the game as well as the visuals.

I totally agree about the combat. It was annoying how the spear barely did any damage, yet it made a very loud sound like a high damage weapon would. The combat also felt very repetitive, it just felt like all I was doing was shooting arrows all day. The dodging was also hard to master. But overall the game was still fantastic, visually stunning, and a lot to explore. I think if they added some kind of shield for Alloy or an ability to perry attacks it would help a lot.

Spear combat was more for humans than machines. They do refine it in Burning Shores, however. Those spear capsules allow you to do elemental damage to enemies. However, other weapons would still be better for powerful machines.

I gotta say I kinda agree with you on a lot of this. I got platinum on Zero Dawn (+Frozen Wilds) and Forbidden West (+Burning Shores) and I do really love the games. But I did find myself getting burned out on all the dialogue at times. I really like the story and the setting and the lore and all that but sometimes the conversations would just go on way too long. Like you get done with the little dialogue wheel and think whew! Then another one pops up with another 6 conversation options. Like c'mon now. We also need some new melee options in the next one. The spear is getting a little long in the tooth.

I loved HZD and HFW, getting 100% completion and platinum trophies on both. If I could make one change, it would be to give Aloy the ability to block or parry. I thought it would only make sense that she should have a defensive option other than evading, especially once she got the shieldwing as it was used for defense by the enemy she took it from (I kept hoping she'd repair it). I thought the story was the most original I'd experienced from any medium in a long time, and I love that I have no idea what the third game will offer (I certainly didn't see where HFW was going). I cared a lot for Aloy and the supporting characters in her inner circle. The worst part for me about these games was that they ended. I would consider HFW to be a masterpiece, and HZD to be a spectacular first effort for a dev that had entered an unfamiliar genre.

Horizon Zero Dawn is an incredibly rewarding game, and many players who initially overlooked it and only tried it when it became available on PS Plus regretted not playing it sooner. Don't rush through the game with minimal effort like him. Take your time to fully explore the game's rich features and you'll discover that Horizon Zero Dawn offers much more than just a quick completion.

I haven’t played either game yet but have both. First one from PSN and second one came with my PS5. I dunno if I start the first one or just continue waiting for the PS5 remake versions of it to be released as I do still have a good 15 - 20 games to play that I bought during Black Friday. Which is when I bought my PS5 and spent a total of £1150 all in all for everything including a 2TB M.2 and 4 years of PSN extra.

Seems like a good way to break up HZ without getting to burnt out on the so much of the franchise in a short period of time. It’s honestly such a weird feeling having to many exclusives to play through compared to my Xbox series x. I actually sold my 1TB expansion card on eBay and after fees n postage, got £170.00 and bought the western digital 2TB M.2 for £169.99 on Amazon flash sale. So I definitely got lucky with that as it felt like a straight swap with a bit of work involved 😁

Horizon Games are nice and a trilogy according to Guerrilla studios . I’m looking forward to see what’s the new IP would be after the 3rd game. Also want to replay the first game but still waiting for the remastered version to come out to match the forbidden west mechanics and looks . Be cool if they did Remake of Killzone series with today graphics and better storyline, or a completely different first person shooter series in open world style or the remake of killzone in open world style

Probably more Horizon. They said recently that they have a ton of ideas and will be doing Horizon for "a good, long while." Sony will also probably want more. Now whether Aloy gets the Kratos treatment and pops up in different cultures around the world, a Nathan Drake encore sendoff in Horizon 4, or her journey truly ends while someone else's begins in another entry, we have to wait and see. Personally, I'm hoping for the Nathan Drake special. One last game isn't enough. 4 mainline games is total perfectly doable without milking the franchise. They might even be able to do 5, but only if they plan ahead. That would be awesome.

Uncharted series a wonderful series. The uncharted book by S.D. Perry is a great listen in Audible read by the voice of Nathan Drake himself . Horizon is wonderful too, been waiting for the PS5 remastered version of it ever since they announce of it

U4 ended so beautifully, its one of those "I do want another one but I also don't want another one." U4 was perfect and while another one could be really fun, do I really want that perfect ending interrupted?

Yes they are, Horizon has cutting edge graphics, amazing enemy design, & great world building, but unfortunately due to Sony releasing them next Breath of the Wild & Elden Ring, they didn’t get the attention they deserved… The Burning Shores DLC had some horrible writing, felt forced, & had some cool graphical upgrades, especially flying through the clouds

Honestly, it shouldn't matter what games releases close to Horizon. If Horizon is as great as people claim it to be, it should be able to stand on its own. Im playing Forbidden West right now and its alright. I agree with the video that something about the combat just isnt satisfied. Its scratching that open world itch, but you bet that ill be dropping Horizon like a bad habbit as soon as Tears of the Kingdom comes out.

The attacks of 1v1 in HZD was designed to feel more AI based since you were dealing with machines, so no real pattern. That’s why it was meant to learn sneak attacks and what they were vulnerable too. I loved both games and the dlc on HZD. Haven’t gotten the dlc for the new one yet.

I think the 3rd depends upon how they "do" the villain. At this point, not sure why the HFW dlc's villain was a villain. I get what he did, but his lack of scope could've garrenteed human survival even in the midst of the next villain's arrival. And Seyka to me was too bishy and pushy, and often "hit me" when we attacked the same target. So I eventually let her get taken out so I could fight unimpeded lol. I get it though, a lot of people are in relationships with toxic or immature people, so they may like those character traits. But for me, those traits are a put off. Talanah from BOTH games was a better choice if the devs want Aloy to be lesbian (even though Talanah is a sausage lover based on her HFW side quest). Sun King made Aloy smile and blush making Aloy consider him "when" she returns from the forbidden west. I was originally rooting for Varl (whom Aloy stated to Rost's grave she liked him) but devs took him a different way (with Aloy giving a disappointed expression for just a fraction of a second). And Nil's been in both games, seeming to be on par with Aloy even if the devs don't show it, and technically COULD have been recruited by her. I could imagine a Hobs'n Shaw-esque relationship between Nil and Kotallo! To me, Seyka was Aloy's high schoolish competition. A competitor faking nice in front of the boss lol. Perhaps the 3rd installment will provide OPTIONS for romance, along with conversations leading up to it, including being able to select a person or two to come along with you. I bet the game score would skyrocket, making the series a must have in everyone's gaming library, a Top 10 for sure!

I don't think the combat needs to be revamped entirely. The concept of using a bow to systematically pick apart machine bits in a specific manner is what makes the Horizon series unique and touchstone. That being said, I think making using enemy weapons easier could be a good improvement. Usually, the enemy weapons are such a hassle to pick up and use, it's never worth it. I will say, the grappling downed enemies mechanic that they introduced with Burning Shores is extremely interesting and could be explored further. Imagine if you didn't have to down an enemy to grapple them? Imagine, instead, if you could grapple onto a Thunderjaw while it was moving?!? Imagine if you could climb aboard larger enemies to take them apart. Hell, what if you could take them apart from the inside!?

I agree that melee combat isn't ideal, in terms of balance ( playing Very Hard in both games) , in that even fully invested in the available perks, it's hard to kill things exclusively with melee. The skills in Burning Shores help a bit, but you're still better off using a Sharpshot bow or Boltblaster for big damage. That said, if you're getting hit too much in combat, it sounds like you may not be using all the tools available. Removing attacks/weapons from machines, tying them down to remove them from combat when you're getting swarmed, knocking them down, exploiting elemental weaknesses for a quick kill. Learning which attacks got you killed, and the best ways to mitigate that. I think a lot of the depth of the combat is lost on low difficulties where you dont need to use any of those tools. Not shaming anyone, play how you like, but i will say i also found combat stale before cranking difficulty, then all of these tools became much more important and changed how I approach fights. Would personally rate the combat right up there with all the From titles, Monster Hunter, and maybe the Batman games for the arcade-y quick time stuff.

I actually prefer the story in Horizon Zero Dawn. The start was epic. I haven't completed Forbidden west. Just not into the whole space element. I think they ruined the story. It's also longer than it needs to be (forbidden west)

I agree with you 100% Aloy’s character arc is so messed up. On zero dawn she was building her circle and making new friends which in the end help her and then on forbidden west she let go all of that and her “independent woman” mentality kicked in. Gameplay wise it’s beautiful and I do like Aloy but they messed up her story on forbidden west

I love the Horizon series, but I 100% agree with you on the combat. It's improved, but it could still be better. The graphics, in my opinion are one of the best on PS5. Makes me excited for part 3 and what changes they'll make. But I'm I am being honest, all of these games with the graphics and combat still get me more hyped for Ghost of Tsushima 2. My current #1 fav game on PS4 and 5. I think the combat is perfect. Graphics still hold up extremely well. Another great video! The intro and the bloopers had me rolling 😂😂😂

I like the games, got the plat for HZD & working my way through forbidden west, i enjoy the unpredictable machine attacks, makes each fight matter, if there was a pattern or formula the fights would become repetitive, i like how each machine has it own thing that punishes the player. One thing i would say goes against HFW is the constant chat from Aloy as you roam around, constantly pointing out what your next step should be about 2 seconds after arriving at a location make the player feel like a moron for not knowing right away. As you say, media is subjective, if people feel the need to review bomb a game or boycott another that doesn't bother me nor will it stop me playing, it simply reflects badly upon them.

Aside from the almost lesbian scene that I avoided as I thought Aloy and the chunky bloke from the West and original were going to get it on, the graphical issues that arise in the DLC, it was most enjoyable. That metal devil at the end. Boy that was a hell of a fight as well as the Zenith guy. Drove me nuts that last bit.

Burning shores was absolutely perfect for me. I loved every minute of it and the ending was just a brilliant round up of a the chemistry we had seen be developed. I think the whole point is for Aloy it really is the first time she's felt attached to anyone since Rosy, and the first time romantically on any level. This isnt someone she has to carry either, seyka can more than handle her own, and the way they are, they compliment each other perfectly.

Bro the main plot of forbidden west specifically focuses on the story of Elizabeth Sobeck who aloy is literally a clone of, and she has a lesbian relationship with that Zenith chick you work with. That should have made it pretty obvious Aloy is gay plus (warning: this is my controversial take) the fact that Aloy exhibits very masculine traits, she's strong, and athletic also lends her to a gay disposition. Anyway my favourite part in the game was the interlude where you discover the Zeniths which was a shocking and really interesting twist. Then they turn out to be hostile and fleeing from those fucking phantom machines or whatever frightened the shiiit out of me I was geniounely terrified and by the time I got out of the facility I put down the controller and sort of took a deep breath of relief. I didn't like how they overused those machines at the end and they became fodder though. I haven't beat burning shores yet but from what I've played it looks good. Can't wait to wrap it up and hopefully have a more fulfilling ending than the base games "OK I guess we're all screwed" lol

This ^ He did say he was bored of the dialogue though so he was skipping through it. if you're not listening to the characters, like about Elisabet's background...or that Aloy learning that she doesn't have to do it all alone and separate herself emotionally from people like Elisabet did. I mean, Aloy does like people, but she often gets frustrated with them, because she's human. I will say, I'm not going to discount anything with her sexuality yet. she could be bisexual too. I've found some interactions in both games to be a little flirty whether they were male or female. I mean, she will probably end up with Seyka, I just wish it hadn't felt so rushed. Give me a little bit more of a slow burn if you're going to introduce her love interest in a DLC

Yeah to be fair I am probably a bit dumb that I should of seen that coming since she was a clone to be honest. I remember she was with that Zenth woman but for some reason even though she was with her I still looked at Aloy as her own person, but your right I am probably a bit slow to not put 2 and 2 together LOL.... If you liked the main games I think you will really like Burning Shores. Thanks for your thoughts!

Finally someone who has the same problem with the combat system than me. It is the worst part in the game and the only reason I finished Zero Dawn was the great story. I stopped playing Forbidden West because I get bored of the story, the characters and the combat system was even expanded, so it was even more confusing. I never felt like I have the control. Not as in GoT. I try to finish FW at some point but won't play Burning Shores or a third part because I don't care about Alloy and the story anymore.

Great video. I was the same with part one. It came with my ps4, and I just could not get into it. I got them both on my ps5, and tried. They look great, but the gameplay takes some getting used to. I have not downloaded the dlc yet. Every game or tv show has a LGTB character, it’s nothing shocking, anymore.

Playing Forbidden West because its on PS+ and i agree. Something about the combat doesn't feel all that satisfying. People always say that both games released at terrible times because they get over shadowed by other games like BotW and Elden Ring. Gotta say, I'm glad there are other people who don't REALLY love Alloy. It's not like I dislike her, but I felt that every time I heard about THE best characters in games, there was always Alloy on the list. I never really clicked with her. For example, when I started playing Mass Effect, I instantly loved Shepard.

Love horizon! But i have to disagree. There were always little hints that aloy is at least bisexual. A lot of people got gay vibes from aloy. for example petra was hitting on her constantly. Also she wasn't really interested in the sun king's advances. I think the end of forbidden west was kinda lame incomparison to zero dawn and the dlc gave us an incredible epic last bossfight!!! It really is a great addition to the main game.
