Is IBKR Data Good for Order Flow? | Free Footprint Chart Template

This video shows and explains a footprint chart template created in Sierra Chart for studying order flow analytics. In the video I showed the template on a few different markets including a high volume option contract through Interactive Brokers data. The IBKR feed is not a tick by tick data feed, but it might be close enough for some, more info about that in the video. For the option demonstration we only had the Level 1 OPRA subscription, which is why you only see the top bid and offer on the order book.

We adapt and learn continuously as a trader The PNF gives good context for key areas on the auction especially to improve on areas of interest and how market is rotating Main element is to keep a consistent way in viewing the market and adapting to current conditions( liquidity & volatility) Nice video as usual

GREAT video! Thank you for including chartbook and study config as I had mine setup wrong. I thought 20 Pnf was 20-1 and you are using 1-20 radically different charts and yours have far more bars which for me is far more useful! I see you have the delta from high and low which might be one of the top 3 features in Sierra but I have no clue where to set this??

Glad it helps. Nope it's 1-20 I was also making this mistake. So it first needs to be turned on in the Chart Settings > Chart Data > Historical Pullback Data. The rest is configured in the Numbers Bars study.

Hi Chris, not sure the best way to contact you for a question ? Is it possible to use main instance of Sierra connected with SC - Data and another instance connected to IB ? When I opened the new instance I'm not able to change data source. I have service pack 12 and SC - Data. I'll check again for your other setups.

It would be best to use a separate installation if you plan to connect to different trading services at once. I use a separate installation for IBKR. Contact would be through the about page of the YT channel.

Thanks for the video! I have an unrelated question though. Hope you can help me with this. I would like to sell a Poor Man’s Covered Call on my TSLA leaps options weekly. I could’ve used spreads to place my order but last week was earnings day so I just placed the buy order on my options expecting to be able to just sell another call against my leaps manually. Now, I couldn’t find the option of selling calls against my leaps.. my question is, if I sell a weekly call now, would it recognise and use my leaps as the collateral? I do sell covered calls against my shares too so I am worried that it can be confusing for the broker. Appreciate your response. Thanks😊

I have a weird question; is there an indicator which shows the average volume of a specific time frame (duration) across the previous days? Ie. If i am in hourly time frame and it's 1:30pm ,it would show the average volume took place only in time from 1pm and 2pm in the previous x days. I am not sure if I am clear enough

This may be available but you would need to check. It can certainly be developed in Sierra with ACSIL if it doesn't exist.

Hey Chris thanks for the great video. Im new to IKBR an deposited 100$ to test it out. Its putting my limit purchase orders 30 cents above my limit price. Why is that? I have not yet subscribed to live market data(living in Canada) and dont have 500$ in the account yet. Is this why?

Hello, No problem at all. The way you add it is by copying it to your SierraChart/Data folder and then it should be accessible from Sierra Chart when you go to File > Open Chartbook. Sorry for the delayed response and feel free to follow up.

Why is the delta computed horizontally rather than diagonally? Shouldn’t the delta be calculated from 2 consecutive prices?

I’ve tested both ways and never saw a noticeable reason to do so. In theory this might be the correct way to read it but theory is only there to explain something that already exists.

If you use Sierra you get the data from them not on IBKR, except for options like I showed in the video we are commenting on.

It isn't free but yes they have BTC data from Binance and other exchanges. The data is free. You can chart footprints (numbers bars study).

No only level 1 data is necessary for a footprint chart. However ideally what you want is tick by tick historical data with accurate bid/ask volume as it was recorded on the exchange and not an approximation. This is hard to find in certain markets, easier to find in others.
