Never made that comparison ilia and yan but I can definitely see it now. Sean’s precision, speed and footwork are all top tier with anybody in Sean’s weight class. His discipline and preparation is super underrated by fight fans. Your ability to drill fight ending sequences like the way you did Aljo, and your ability to see and call out shots like you did in the Yan fight, shows your coaching is top tier as well. Honestly, illia seems to have much better defense then yan, yan sits in the pocket in a high guard works the body great and throws great combinations but with little footwork. Their styles are honestly not very alike in the slightest besides the combinations they throw, and as others said illia’s ground game is levels better. I think Sean could pull it off, but man that’s a fucking task. We’ll see how he does against someone with great footwork like volk, that’ll be a better idea on how Sean could do.

Great review! I am spanish and I would love Topuria to win this fight but it is gonna be a very tough one. The lack of experience against big names can definitely play a factor against the 145 pounds GOAT. I also agree that is a winnable fight for Suga, Ilia's low stance is great but it does worry me a bit against front knees and high kicks against tall and rangy fighters... I am still hesitant as well about how he is going to handle the calf kicks in the lead lead against high iq fighters that will exploit that... even tho he moves a lot he tends to leave a solid lead leg too close to his opponent while staying that ortodox boxing stance. I am looking forward for this fight!

Can't wait for Ilia to get outclassed this weekend. Agree with your analysis, BUT, there's levels to this game. Max has shown us that time and time again. Ilia skipped Max, so Volk will show Ilia that there's levels this time around Ilia is very good, but he hasn't fought anyone of Max's, Volk's level. I doubt he'd win against Arnold Allen, Ortega, Kattar (if back where he was when healthy)

I actually do believe Bryce when he talks about his stamina during the Tuporia fight. Bryce was able to go a full 3rds with Barboza and was fine during that fight. Bryce was DYING after half the 1st round in that Tuporia fight.

If we look at everything, it's actually crazy Volk took that 2nd Islam fight. He fought Yair, had that surgery. Was completely out of shape, not training because the surgery. Then on days notice he crashed weight like he never does. It's understandable he got wobbled from a shot he can normally take better. He didn't get fully KO'd but he got wobbled right as the fight started. So he should have never taken that important fight with all those things going against him. ~[REGARDLESS : I've thought this match up against Ilia Topuria could be one of volks hardest challenges so far and that was before the Islam rematch] I'm an outlier here when I say (I think Volks taken plenty of time to recover & bounce back from his loss against Islam. He got wobbled yes but he's given it plenty of time since then) out of all people I feel like Ilia is capable of beating Volk. Their styles and strengths just match up perfectly for a barn burner fight.

I also think Suga can win, Topuria I feel flows better between disciplines than most UFC fighters. His stance is orthodox, but he can mix it up fast and rattle off combos. Suga has a 3 inch reach and height advantage and Ilya keeps his head relatively low even though he moves in a bunch. I think Suga just has to be disciplined, control that distance, and make sure he has a knee or uppercut timed up. I think the longer the fight goes Suga would get a better feel for his timing and it could very much end up like the Aljo KO. But if Ilya is active keeps pressing forward and is somewhat smothering especially in the 1st round that presents the most danger and it could throw of Suga's timing and reach advantage. Very interesting fight and like you said very winnable. Just be razor sharp with Ilya in a way his MMA game reminds me of Ernesto Hoost with his ability to attack levels with flow to a degree.

Sean will piece Ilia up. Stick and move. Ilia will pressure Sean probably try to find his jab early and pressure him to the cage, take him down. If Suga can dictate the pace and keep Ilia on his heels something we've never seen really. I think that's his biggest opportunity to catch him with a big right counter or just jab him down to a decision.

Im spanish, obviously rooting for Ilia but in my humble opinion Ilia should have had at least another 5 rounder vs. a former contender. Still, Alex may be on the decline and Illa learns a lot between fights. He surprised me vs. Emmet, the dude just casually learnt how to jab like a true boxer and how to keep his cool for 5r. Ilia being compared to yan actually isn’t too far off, but I will say I think what makes ilia far more dangerous, and better then yan is the fact ilia is gonna pull that trigger, whereas yan takes his time, tries to stay defensively sound, and wait for the perfect shots where ilia walks everyone down and stalks them, even someone like Emmett with nuclear tipped warheads on his hands and puts it on them, then back steps when they eventually try and counter and absolutely lights them up with 3, sometimes even 4 punch fast and heavy shots.

Sean has the advantage on the feet against ilia with the height and range obviously. I think ilia has the advantage in the grappling but sean has very good take down defense. Sean's right hand, knees up the middle, and leg kicks could give ilia alot of trouble. It's a scary fight for suga but I believe if he can stay cautious of the counters and not get into a brawl with ilia then he gets the job done. Also ilia's side stance leaves him open for the body kick. Wich is what bryce should've went for more instead of the push kick he kept throwing

I do truly believe that Volk will Wipe the floor with Topuria. I really do see Volk completely dismantling him slowly but surely, bit by bit - IMO Volk does it by either TKO in the 4th or by Unanimous Decision at the end. I see Sugar Sean out classing Topuria also but quicker! In a more sugar show kinda way. I see Sean finishing Topuria with a counter punch knockout in the 2nd or 3rd.

Topuria has also proven to be more rugged than O´Malley and better fight IQ. Other than height and reach, which Topuria has faced already sucessfully enough.
