I know we Nigerians and Indians don't always get along. But don't think you were alone in this. Britain extracted a budget surplus from Nigeria every year since it inception as a colony and that surplus was then sent back to Britain, with only a small amount being sent back for development. The British destroyed our native textile industries by force and did the same in Egypt which was a major cotton producer. I always chuckle when a British person says to me, what does Britain owe all its former colonies? my answer is "quite a lot actually" lol

Extremely disappointed with Bloomberg using the terminology of British "extracted" $45 Trillion from India vs "looted" or "Stole." In India, British govt. would have signs in front of buildings saying "Dogs & Indian not allowed." British massacred thousands of unarmed Indians through police firing at a Park in India (jallianwala bagh massacre). During World War II, the famine-like conditions created by British by stealing resources from India to support the war led to about 3 million Indians dying at the time. I am a regular viewer of Bloomberg but this video really disappointed me.

If the company has to stop its business in India it should notify the Government. They may resume after they get the permission from the government. The companies bully the state by evading taxes and then threatening to leave the country if the government takes a stern stance. China did not grow by bowing to Corporates and MNCs. If the companies want the Indian market they have to play by our rules. Chinese smartphone and Car companies were made to do this.... The government should take a similar stance with all other companies. The state should be the ones bullying the corporates and not the other way around.

After I watched the video, I understood that video was not really about China nor India, but more about US's agenda because it is decoupling with an adversarial county. But doing so, it also needs a country replacing that. It's like China and India are two chess pieces on a board game of international relations with respect to manufacturing, technology and to some extent geography.

All smart and educated indians can't wait to leave India and go live and work for foreign countries/companies. Why? The ones that do stay aren't Patriots and only stay to get rich and exploit poor indians. Those rich indians exploiting poor are in power and government caters to them.. yay for democracy and capitalism? How are you going to grow when it's like this? You get what you choose. Indians want caste system and democracy, then that's what they get. If you want to help the people and country, you have to raise them and rein in the big rich exploiting companies. They only care about their own family and making even more money and power. They don't care if India is poor or polluted as long as they stay rich and in control. India might have 1.4 billion like china but it does not have 98% approval rating and is not united like china. China already treat women and minorities as equals and can utilise it's full potential. India workforce is not 1.4 billion like china, all working for same direction of country and proud, probably only like 30-40% or less when only 20% of women work. And that's not even counting minorities and low caste etc who obviously aren't proud indians.

Besides social structure, the more important thing is the government. The Chinese government is more efficient because there is no infighting and can make developments without unions, land issues getting in the way. Our 300 mile bullet train project is facing many years of delay due to land acquisition problems but China has 24000 miles of operating tracks already. Some problems with the video: 1. The point demanding reduction of import duty is rather unfounded because if you are an exporter, you already get 100% of the import duties/excise/GST that you paid as credit/refund. So, you never have to worry about it if you're planning on exporting anyways. 2. Tax disputes with Vodafone and Carin energy etc. predate the conception of whole Make in India project of government, and a lot of structural changes have been made since to ensure that things like that don't happen anymore. (Retrospective taxation as you mentioned) A lot of bureaucratic offices have become single window with multiple taxation and legislation compliance reforms since then, so hopefully it'll be better soon. 3. High tariffs are actually beneficial as they come into play only when companies want to capitalise in Indian market, and it's justified that you should have to pay for it. (Just like EV is given incentive to boost demand as an analogy and Carbon emissions taxed). Yes, that makes imported objects expensive for us before we can make them ourselves, but this is a fair compromise. 4. I don't know what happened with that undisclosed advertisement of "udan app" in the middle. It was a very weak point, with a small application with close to 0 effect, when instead you could have talked about role of Paytm-Phone pay / Jio is digitising the economy. Rest, the points with female participation and upskilling workforce are absolutely correct and should be paid much more attention towards. I would add one more point of improving hig level education standards via international collaborations and research facilities. Bringing some of NRIs back to teach as proffesors, and sending our kids in exchange programs will also have a significant role with big multiplier for economy as high-level research grows.

The biggest mistake India does is that economic planning is done by Indian business holders , politicians , religious leaders , socialists , ngos and other influential ppl in Indian economy which have lots of incentives to stop foreign companies from coming to India and not by economic experts which comprise both who are currently in Indian economy and by foreigners who want to make money in India , the fact that India's trade within south Asia is so low shows who make economic decision.

@@krishnkant9477 I chuckled. If you think these politicians are the ones actually making these policies, it's adorable. There is a book, "The Silent Coup: A History of India's Deep State" I would recommend you read this once. Just take a blank recommendation, and I'm sure your perspective will change. Politicians are just the front faces, who want to remain in power and do whatever it takes to keep them in power. Counter to common belief, Manmohan Singh actually made his own policies, since 1991, and the reason most people understand him as weak / puppet is because his modus operandi was in contradiction to his own party line. Also, if you think views of enough 'economists' aren't taken into consideration, you're definitely barking under the wrong tree, because there are so many groupings of such economists in the upper echelon of power in India already, now it's besides the point that they don't agree with each other for most part. In my opinion, too many economists and too little vision/science/reasoning is the problem. Yes, but within a much longer time frame and with certain limits of success because of its lack of huge land mass like China. The western democratic political system also would slow India's growth. Just like the U.S. which took U.S. 250 years to get where it is today whereas it took China with it meritocracy only 40 years to catch up to U.S.A. However, India could tap on its scientists to innovated aquaculture industry to overcome its lack of huge agriculture farmlands. The long coastlines could be used for aquaculture in fisheries and sea based industries. I envisioned huge floating multiportals around India's coastline and even further out to the India Ocean to be used for Aquaculture cultivation.

What works for China is that the government along with the industry decide without having to get approval from its people. I also think that culturally, China's people accept self sacrifice in the present in order to improve nit only their chance but the overall rise of the nation and that is something that is unmatched anywhere else in the world. In the U.S. we cannot even agree on improving our roads and meanwhile China is building thousands of miles of bullet trains. I think like the U.S. the fact that India needs to get buy-in from their people makes their situation a lot harder to implement the systems necessary to grow. While I would not like to live in a totalitarian government, I do think that China's business and semi-capitalist model is proving to be unbeatable. I truly don't know how any government run by old incompetent legislators, all working not to improve the nation but whose whole purpose is to trip the other party for their own gain can prosper in this new economy.
