I used to work for the Indycar Series (as a pilot) so I am slightly biased, but it’s absolutely one of the best motor racing series out there. This coming from a big F1 fan as well. Nothing compares to the uniqueness and skill it takes to compete in Indycar. Thanks for the love!

No power steering is a big shake up. Pretty sure all the former f1 guys have mentioned that. Its a hell of a lot more physical racing. Love it. Wish f1 had a few races a year where everyone gets the same exact car. Would be fun to just settle whose really good and whose just got the good engineers.

I dont think its talked enough how easy it is to meet your favorite driver or team owner. Indycar goes to great lengths to make themselves accessible. I would really hope that you would decide to cover the Indy 500 instead of going to Monaco. I can understand the joy of Monaco lifestyle, but as racing enthusiast best advice i can tell you is to experience the 500. Lastly I hope you urge more photographers and journalist to cover Indycar as they deserve so much more publicity than they are getting from European media. It seems a moot point to me as it appears the US viewing figures for F1 Miami this year we’re down 25% on last years race which were a paltry sub 3m so in that regard IndyCar will probably rebound and pick up many of those bored newer F1 fans. F1 is a constructors series not a drivers series and by its nature the car is the star and no matter what spin is put on driver rivalries etc, the best car will win the WCC & WDC for its best pilot whether it be the Schumacher/Ferrari, Vettel/Red Bull, Hamilton/Mercedes or Verstappen/Red Bull years. The newer F1 fanbase (not just in the US), seems to be losing interest because they see domination of one driver/team boring. Bottom line for those fans is this is F1 and if you want to see the drivers make the difference then IndyCar or some other series is probably more for you.

I love both, and have been a long time fan. Indy is characterized by a lot of crashes and overtakes…it can get a bit desensitizing. F1 is characterized by the opposite…drama is the exception as opposed to the rule and this makes it all that more special when it happens. Both are great series. I think I like F1 a bit more because I love the Constructors aspect of it and the technical innovation.

@@mamavswild Why do you say its characterised by a lot of crashes? If you are meaning small incidents of wheel to wheel contact then I agree because that's what happens with close racing series. But if you are talking about big crashes, they are becoming relatively rare especially outside of the ovals and even then its like 3-4 big crashes a year which is about on par with F1 over the last couple of years.

Man, I love both racing disciplines. I'm going to the Detroit GP in a few weeks. There's no doubt that the racing itself in Indycar is dramatically more entertaining than F1. The big downside (in my opinion) is the relative lack of technology in Indycar. The cars are boring and sound boring. I'd venture to guess F2 cars would be relatively quicker than Indycars. Get those guys some aero and let the teams compete a bit more from a technology and aero perspective. I really hope Indycar keeps improving. In the meantime, I'm happy to be a fan of both.

Indy is not the new F1; however, it is a great and exiting product, I think. There’s certainly more action and excitement. One thing is certain, the GMR safety teams in Indy are the best in the world - top notch. Romain Grosjean is lucky to be alive. He has only himself to thank for that. He would’ve died, for sure, if his fate were left to F1’s safety crews. F1’s safety teams are slow to respond and , we’ll, just not very good. They can learn much from Indy in this regard.

In March 2020, gasoline prices went really low as the pandemic lockdown started. Here in Texas, where gas is refined and cheaper than other states, the price went down to $1.39 a gallon. My local Kroger has a fuel points rewards program, along with a credit card, that allows a discount of up to $1.25 a gallon. This meant I filled up my car for 14 cents a gallon. Total bill for just over 10 gallons was $1.47. Not per gallon, per full tank! I was wondering if it would go any lower but it didn't. It was crazy.

That wouldn’t make any sense though. IndyCar was founded almost half a century before F1, where they ran into the problems with big teams consistently dominating over others. F1 is encountering the worst of this issue now, but changing to spec cars would eliminate one of the only unique things about it. I watch F1 for the engineering, so I’d probably abandon it if they changed things. That being said, the major plus about F1 is that it’s a worldwide competition, drawing an international audience. Since IndyCar is almost exclusively held in the US, I don’t see it ever being as popular as F1 on a global scale.

I hate to say it but I do feel F1 is due a very very big fall!. For a myriad of reasons, it pains me as I do like F1 I’ve watched it since the 90s, damon hill winning, villeneuve, Schumacher. Why is F1 in store for a catastrophic fall, because it’s audience has changed. Back in the 90s and been through the 2000s there were many many “boring” races and one team dominating. But what F1 has done especially with the 2021 season and Netflix is create unrealistic expectations and todays viewers (not all) but most have short attention spans they need excitement or they’ll quickly move on!. What we’re not getting is excitement. It’s like at theme parks they over estimate queue lengths. They’ll say estimated time two hours wait, you wait and the queue time ends up being an hour so psychologically everyone is like cool it was only an hour wait. But if they estimated the queue time at 45minutes everyone would be like ahhhhh damn I had to wait an hour!. The above analogy is why F1 is in for a big fall you then add on extreme ticket costs, and obscene paddock pass and grandstand costs, TV paywalls and you = a very rough road ahead!.

Racing-wise, IndyCar is superior to F1. But there is something unique about F1 marketing. It's global calendar, the build up to the race, social media content, etc. make it accessible to people who are unable to travel to races. I think that is the remaining piece of the puzzle for IndyCar. For starters, a global calendar would redeem IndyCar from the massive time difference that makes most non-American fans not watch races.

I have been saying this for a while now. Indy series has far less drama, or should I say that the drama happens on the track. The drivers are not as "prima donna" as you find with some F1 drivers and team principles are professional, unlike the "hissies" in F1. The races themselves are exciting and racing is close. F1 is becomming prissy and on track it is becoming bland.

Indycar is it's own thing. They have ovals and a teams championship while F1 has a constructors championship because each team make there own cars.

I really want to commit to Indycar, because the racing is close and the results are unpredictable, but the sheer number of commercial breaks makes it unwatchable for me. "While you were away" are the worst words in sports.

are you in the states?? in america we have commerical breaks during the race on NBC / Peacock ...but the race is in a window right next to the commerical so you never miss the on track action.

I am in the States. Not every commercial break has the side-by-side view. At Long Beach between 4:30pm and 5pm they cut away every ten minutes for three minute breaks meaning you got seven minutes of racing and then some of that had Leigh Diffey reading a commercial message, so I gave up.

I like Kym's videos but he has started to use click bate titles. I am disappointed that he has lowered the quality perception of his videos.

2023 Indycar = 5 races, 5 different winners from 3 different teams, 15 podiums from 10 different drivers. F1 = 5 races 2 winners from 1 team, 15 podiums from 5 drivers! I've had 46 years of tolerating F1 and for me it's finished! It's just soooo boring, and F1 is now focused on offtrack more than on track activities. Manufacture's, Liberty Media, Americanization , glitter ball pom pom American nonsense, Middle East interference and Netflix over dramatizing something which has no drama has finally hammered the final nail in for me! Indycar is 100% more exciting, and the cars can race and over take! F1 is just a marketing controlled circus show, run by Walt Disney and I'm sure its only a matter of time before they have a race at Disney Land!

Miami is a hub for American Airlines thus their lounge at MIA has to be one of their best in the States. A fair price for an airport trolley is $0. Please don't eat the sushi in Indy. We need you at your best.

F1 may have the impressive tech it lacks in racing excitement. Indycar puts on the best racing. Dont even make tge spec comments becausr its not truly spec and even inthe cart era of indycar it had the best racing then too.
