Yep I love F1 for all the innovation and tech updates, but I do like some Indy (when they run road circuits) and F2 also, it's like watching college sports where they just throw their whole heart into it! Maybe they can revive Champ Car and make that a step above Indy Car as the North American constructor's series with a cost cap, would love to see tech and engine innovation through the season.

Anyone who likes Indycar but hates ads, you gotta watch the practice and qual sessions. Several hours per week of ad-free coverage, where they're willing to deep-dive into esoteric topics like camber that are "too boring" for the more general audience on the broadcast.
@lucasrabelo937
@lucasrabelo937 8 ай бұрын
That's curious. Here in Brazil we have ads on the races of course and they are shown before the broadcast starts and on the race but without cutting the action off the screen, they just split in two(one showing the race and the other the ad) for like 5-10s and go back to the race on full screen
@ryanware7577

@@lucasrabelo937 I wish it was like that here in the land of advertising. They do use split screen for many of the commercial breaks, but the commercial breaks are the normal 2-3 minutes and it is definitely the advertisement that gets the large majority of screen real estate and not the race.

Thanks for covering Indycar. It’s such an underrated series and I think a lot of F1 fans outside of the States still see it as a F1 reject series but it’s so much more. I find myself watching F1 and loving it but Indycar is much more exciting and unpredictable (part because it’s a spec series). I hope more people get into it in the future because some of these drivers truly do have more talent than SOME F1 drivers, they just don’t have 20 million to put down. This channel got me into indy and it convinced me to go to a race last year. Keep up the great work

On the surface, a lot of American Motorsport seems to revolve about extremes. Dragsters as the epitome of acceleration, NASCAR/Indie Car as an embodiment of permanent max throttle, etc. Even IF oval racing was just putting the foot down and never taking it off the throttle (which it isn't), even IF Top Fuel Dragsters can't even make a single turn, they are fascinating disciplines. I've never seen a dragster live, but I've been to Tractor Pulling events. For those that haven't: Ten thousand horsepower in action is an experience you never forget. The air is shaking. The ground is shaking. YOU are shaking. And it's _stupidly_ loud. All that's really happening is an engine reving up, but the force on diplay is of a magnitude you won't find anywhere else. I find that fascinating. To be precise: The sheer brutality that is unleashed AND controlled by technology far beyond what these simple labels give those sports credit for.

Indy car also as much simpler rules in regards to passing compared to F1. Oh you're a car length behind and want to dive up the inside taking away the other driver's line? Alright, go for it. Plus it shows that yes open wheel cars can go nose to tail lap after lap or side by side. And for those confused by the size of the teams, in Indy car you can run however many drivers you want, historically two drivers was most common but there were always one driver teams and a three driver team or two. Also the battle between Ganassi and Penske has been going since the 90s.

What happens is that Indy has 17 races, which 5 are ovals, 5 street racing, and 7 tracks and some of them the worst conditions I've sen by far😮😮. For a F1 to run at Indy 500 that need to change the car in very way importantly the engine!! Indy 500 is around 3 hours racing full speed!! No F1 engine would endure that trust me with that kind of power over 1000hp they would blow their engine to pieces and we are talking a $5M engine. Lower power, longer transmission ratios for higher speed and how much will it cost to do that? And Indy is running with $300k engine!! 236mph even higher speeds for 3hours racing. Last year O'Ward reach 243mph at the curve imagine the Gs in the moment!! And F1 fans thinks Indy cars don't produce Gs forces Look for it and O'Ward was reaching 4.9Gs at 243mph!! It was just for qualifying!! 3 hours at Indy at 236mph average speed 4.8 Gs each lap if don't believe me look for the information .

I like how Europeans, via F1, take something simple, cheap and quintessentially American, like a baseball cap, and turn it into a super high priced, high tech luxury item. Good to point out, as you do, that IndyCar is a national championship series. Fans both of IndyCar and F1 seem to forget that. It ain’t Formula One or anything like it. It’s the national open wheel championship series of the United States.

We're long time F1 fans in the USA (me, expat Brit, since 1963; Kate since 2007), and we just discovered your channel. This was the second video of yours that we watched, and since (a) we're feeling a bit underwhelmed by F1 right now (too many races on crap circuits), and (b) we just subscribed to PeacockTV (paying extra for ad-free service), we decide to watch the replay of today's Indycar race in Florida. We've seen a couple of Indycar races live (at Sonoma and Watkin's Glen), but we have never followed the series on TV. Our verdict? Well, the race was OK - perhaps 6/10 - mostly because it's a boring, terribly narrow street circuit with few passing opportunities. (Just like Jeddah, right? 😏) The commentary was dire - 2/10, and that's generous - with way too much "human interest" nonsense mixed in. (I really don't want to spend a full minute on the way one driver's wife is using boxing in her workout regime!) And the racing coverage was a mess, too, with replays intermixed with live action with no visual indication to indicate which was which. It was a relatively processional race, but even the few interesting moments (Newgarden's first pit stop, for instance) were not covered well. We'll definitely watch a few more races at some of the real circuits, and we're planning to see both Indycar and Formula E when they come to Portland later in the year. But the TV coverage.... well, I never expected to feel that I was missing the Sky Sports F1 madhouse, but I do.

In 1979 CART split from USAC and grew into a close rival to F1 in global popularity by the mid-90s. In 1996 the IRL was created and split from CART because then owner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Fuck Tony George wanted to own the series. That’s when the popularity of the sport plummeted and ended up reuniting in 2008.

Tony George has been made the scapegoat for all the ills of motor racing, but I do notice that both NASCAR and F1 have stolen his model for a racing series, both adopting and adapting the IRL’s 25/8 rule, which was the forerunner of the charter/franchise system now the rule in both F1 and NASCAR, and which Roger Penske, once the opponent of 25/8 in the IRL days, is also looking to adopt for the current IndyCar series. Tony George never gave the impression of being a great intellect, but he accidentally stumbled upon what would become the future of Major League motor sports.
@Warlock67
@Warlock67 8 ай бұрын
Exactly! Thanks BC1961 for pointing this out (were you a member of YFDS?). The CART seiries was THRIVING in the 90s, but Fuck Tony George, the owner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, CART's biggest race, wanted control of the series. When that didn't happen, FTG formed the IRL, and basically told the CART teams that if they didn't become part of the IRL, the 1996 indy 500 would have 25 guaranteed spots for the IRL on the starting grid, no matter if CART's drivers were faster than the IRL drivers. CART said "fuk dat", boycotted the race, and FTG had to fill the field of 33 drivers for the biggest race in the US with dentists and also-rans. The Indy 500 hardcores (it's kind of a cult... and I used to be part of it til that year), decided to follow the IRL, cuz INDY, and the rest of the fans followed CART. Not enough peeps to support two major open wheel series in the US, so one series needed to die off. Indycar (Cart) in the 90's had three or four chassis manufacturers, 3 motor manufacturers, and a couple tire manufacturers to choose from, plus they could develop their own aero bits and pieces. Hell... Senna even tested a Penske Indycar in '93 (mostly to get McLaren to give him a better contract, I'm sure). IRL had a stock vehicle to run, with mandated wing angle ranges and such, and did everything they could to manufacture close racing. Indycar nowadays is much better than it was in the 90s-2000s, but it's still a shell of what open wheel racing was in the early 90s. So yeah... FTG!

The racing is fantastic in IndyCar, it's pretty accessible, and the personalities in the series are mostly very cool and friendly. My only request for the series would be to please develop a new chassis before it's eligible for Historic plates. As a footnote, the current aero concept of F1 is basically a highly advanced version of what IndyCar debuted in 2012. They were the first major open wheel series to realize that generating the majority of downforce from the underfloor and using the wings for trim would dramatically decrease the effects of turbulent air on a following car.

I experienced IndyCar last season at Road America. It was amazing. Plus it costs significantly less to go to then any US F1 event and driver and team access is easier as well. Can't wait for this season and hopefully more eyes on the series. I'd love to see the series grow to bring in more cash and more engine manufacturers. This season was supposed to make a jump from the 2.2l engines to a 2.4l engine, then after that was scrapped they were going to change the hybrid system but that's been pushed back until after the Indy 500. The cars should be lighter this season so we should see faster times even without the new engine and hybrid system.

Motorsports will never be. They arent relatable enough. Everybody has played basketball or football with thier friends, and if they dont their school has a team. It helps a sports popularity when people participate, but by its nature motorsport cant have many people participating.

I was at Sebring yesterday and it appears that INDYCAR had 6 lorries stashed waiting for St Pete next weekend. INDYCAR does quite a bit of testing at Sebring, but they run a short course bypassing turn 17, the bumpiest turn (and fun) in all of motorsports.

Sebring is where IndyCar runs testing for street circuits since it's the bumpiest place on Earth that can be closed off.

ok the 1 e.t.2:35 mark car dirt is the jewel box! It was built by Ted Horn the driver by hand. every single piece of that car is hand built. The beautiful thing being, it still around in a personal collection near Findley Ohio. I believe it took close to 50 years to track down the original steering wheel.

I remember when the Indy 500 actually counted for the F1 championship, and when F1 drivers would fly over from Monaco to race Indy, well into the 1970s, as Indy actually took place on the real Memorial Day instead of the same Sunday as Monaco.

Actually quite excited for Indy this year as we might actually get a championship fight unlike in f1. Also would point out that if you attend races it is quite affordable to get a paddock pass and get up close with the drivers and cars.

I'm jealous that you don't have to watch ads during the race. The American broadcast is a disgrace. It's clear the network doesn't care about the racing or the fans. It's just about the money.

Man, there are a ton of websites that offer free live streams of any sport competition. Rojadirecta for example. Or a better one: LiveTV758. Just search it. I don't pay a penny and I enjoy all sports. So you can watch IndyCar streamed by European SkySports instead of NBC who puts so many ads.

Just tossing out this. Not sure if its possible or in the budget of IndyCar, but picture the spec chassis being fitted around WEC Hypercar power trains. The various manufacturers in WEC hyper car segment, using their own hypercar powertrains being competitively fitted into IndyCar chassis. That would make competition in IndyCar even more interesting.🤔

Thank you for making this video. I tried watching and following F1 for a few years (since 21) and found this last season very boring because Verstappen kept winning everything. Ugh! Way to kill the sport. I wanted to watch it here in Pittsburgh because I enjoy the F1 video game by EA Sports. But if the same guy wins all the time.. it just doesn't hold my interest. I think that Americans are just used to civic teams to root for. If there was a racing league that had like garages in different American cities and their cars showed more of a civic pride to them instead of sponsors - oh and the drivers were from this end of the globe.... we'd probably watch it more. So, I renewed my interest in IRL since 2001 and couldn't quite find a reason to root for anybody specific. Like I said.. we associate sports with civic pride and identity rather than root for millionaire teams. I've adopted Scott Dixon because of his PNC Bank car (I bank with them) and Josef Newgarden's PPG Paints car. See the connection? I guess I'll like them for the foreseeable future because those two companies are HQ'd in my city. I'm familiar with them.

Indycar's youtube channel has 30 minute highlight videos for every race, published the next day. I'm almost certain they're available to watch worldwide. Then they've been publishing the full VOD on their channel about two years after the race as well. So right now you can watch every race of his rookie season, and of his first championship season for free.

They need to make Indycar a constructor's series again but use a cost cap like F1 started doing (thank goodness Bernie/Mosley are gone!) and let Indy Lights stay as the spec feeder series. Either that or keep Indycar the way it is and create another constructor's category above it and resurrect the Champ Car name (which in all honesty would probably be the least disruptive plan). It's the reason I love F1 and FIA Endurance series, just following the tech of the different cars and how the engineers continue to make them better.

Yeah, INDYCAR is awesome. I’ve been to the 500 and it’s a bucket list for motorsports fans. I’ve been to the paddock in both F1 and INDYCAR. Indy is way more homey, way less pretentious, F1 was all glitz and glamour and polish. INDYCAR is more about driver talent than tech arms race and the drivers are super and the results are always surprising. Yes watch the races! My only issue is I wish they had their own streaming service.

Indycar would be an incredible racing series if there were more powerplant and chassis choices. Ford (Cosworth), Toyota, Alfa Romeo, etc have a racing history in many series. Dallara could either build different versions of chassis or famous companies like Lola, Ligier, Lotus, etc could produce chassis. Imagine how incredible the series would be? No one would remember F1 anymore!!
