Some of the best memories as a kid were with family and friends by the pool. Some things are better looked at as memories, social gathering opportunities, and fun rather than smart or poor investments. Enjoy life!!

My family also had a pool and while we had some good memories there, but pools are a pain in the neck, too much maintenance cost over the life of the pool and today you might be liable in case somebody has an accident in it, different times
@darlar.90436 жыл бұрын
Had a pool once. Not worth the trouble in my opinion for the limited swim time available throughout the year. I prefer to go to the city pool. It's nice, well kept and it has attentive life guards. Also no risk to small children by owning a pool. Now when we look at houses, a pool is a deal breaker.

As a pool owner, take it from me - just find a friend that already has one.
@andypagakis6 жыл бұрын
what's the typical monthly cost? what do you hate most?
@aquatrax1236 жыл бұрын
Monthly costs are not much, $100 for chemicals and electric at most. The problem is when big ticket problems come up like filter/pump equipment pad replacement $2500, liner replacement $3000, safety cover $ 3000. My pool came with the house and the previous owner did no maintenance so I ended up spending a ton of money right after I moved in. We all love the pool but realistically it only gets used for 3 months out of the year.
@sunshinelawfan76936 жыл бұрын
In Texas it would get more than three months' use. The cover should reduce your insurance, it makes the pools safer. Mine did -

I’d say a pool is worth it if you live in an area where you can use it for most of the year. I live in the northeast where you can only use them for about 3 months I don’t think they are worth it for me but the memories with your kids and friends are worth something too.

I think this depends on where you live. I’m in Las Vegas where it is crazy hot for half the year. Pools are typical want items when buying a house out here. I’m currently getting bids to have one installed myself.

Pools can be had for less than $50,000. Lots of buyers want pools, I loved mine. I'd go for it, take care to fence it and have a cover, to keep kiddos away. Safety is worth splurging on in pools, not tile and so on. Skip the hot tub, it's Texas. Save some money there -
@3of116 жыл бұрын
When I was looking for a house, told the realtor a pool or hot tub was an instant DQ. Didn’t want to have to deal with the maintenance and liability. Rather go to a public pool for a few clams and they can mess with chemicals.

In 2002, I paid $25,000 for an asphalt driveway instead of trading for 4 wheel drive vehicles. That was my only deciding factor. However, I did not expect to raise the value of the home I purchased the previous year for $205,000. Luckily, once my neighbors saw my driveway, they began doing the same thing using the same company. The contractor made a fortune using my driveway as an advertisement. So I'm the end, it raised the value quite a bit. The house appraised for $350,000 in 2005. I imagine it is worth $450,000 today.

I grew up in family pool business. Bad investment you will lose your money to buy it then the cost to maintain it every year. Then repair cost when it brakes down the older it gets. Swimming pool biggest mistake you will ever do.
@theelephant28876 жыл бұрын
Wife has been talking about maybe we should get a pool. My opinion, NO. A) you usually don't cover the investment when you sell the house, and b) I think it makes it harder to sell. Most people I talk to don't want to own a pool

And when selling the house, if you can't find anyone who wants a pool, the buyer may want you to pay to have it filled in. Plus you'll be the one stuck doing the maintenance not her 😛

A pool will always run you 50% more then the quoted cost for various reasons. I think income would also be a factor in this like it seems to be with everything else on the show.

A pool is a 50/50 thing. Some ppl want it, some dont. Mainly because you have to maintain it and balance PH levels. That's $$$$$$$ . Half the time u won't use it . Thiers no wrong with what u doing. Just less grass for u to cut

Never customize a personally product as an investment, you'll never get it back when you sell. Why would somebody who wants a pool buy a house with one at full price when they could buy one without and have a newer one installed exactly the way they want? The only way it makes sense for them is to add less to the value of the house than it would cost to just do themselves.
