Is IQOS, a smoke-free cigarette alternative, safe?

Regulators from the FDA will consider a potentially safer alternative to cigarettes. Philip Morris International, the maker of Marlboro and other top brands, wants the FDA to approve IQOS, a pen-like product that warms tobacco and creates an aerosol that's less toxic than cigarette smoke. Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. Tony Dokoupil reports.

rockstarmiento I bought ths IQOS kit last Christmas, but I still prefer classic cigarettes as I just can't get used to the taste of the IQOS buds, If only there were more flavours beside reds, lights and menthol. And the fact that you have a 6 minute time limit during which you have to finish smoking, and the recharge after each smoke really gets on my nerves.

I have been using this for over a week now.. and I can honestly say I hate the taste of usual cigarettes and the smell. I’m not coughing I’m not wheezing my skin is so much healthier my acne has disappeared and my health is so much better. I feel better. Would definitely recommend this product! Obviously it doesn’t work for everybody but I do believe for a lot of people it can really help!

@@Karolexy i am a long time vaper but it was not able to make me quit as what they claim to be. it's much worst. marketing says that it is like the taste of actual marlboro but when you taste it, kinda like synthetic juice with cheap nicotine. 3mg made my craving spike up more. instead of 1 pack it made me smoke 2-3 packs per day. with IQOS i got this laziness to light a cig. i still smoke but not that pack smoker. maybe 1 or 2 but not daily. with heets and iqos i can feel like i am smoking the real thing minus the flame

I've been using Iqos since it arrived to my market, year and a half to be precise. Since I started using it i have smoked 5-10 regular cigarettes in total. I do not smell of tobacco,the device gets dirty only if you don't clean it once a day. You satisfy your nicotine addiction but without tar and other bad stuff. I do not cough in the morning, i have lots more energy,and there is no tobacco smell on my hands,hair and in the car. Of course there is some smell,and it can be smelly if it gets dirty inside... There are a couple of flavours to choose... The best thing to do is to stop smoking,but if you can't or don't want to then switch to Iqos amd you'll get used to it in a week. It's still a tabaco product with cancerogenes. Also it does actually slightly burn. The harm reduction comparing to cigarettes is like 30-50% how Bertrand Dautzenberg says in his researches. If you want a real healthier alternative - vaping it's what you're looking for.

IQOS is terrific. I started smoking when I moved to Berlin a couple of years ago, and recently bought an IQOS while visiting Zagreb. I don’t even touch normal cigarettes very often anymore.. maybe just after a few drinks at a bar or something. I highly recommend it for smokers.

I’ve smoked for 30 years. I have tried so many times to quit. I last a few days!! Purchased IQOS, first 3-4 HEETS and I thought “another failed attempt.....I am not a fan of the taste” - but I haven’t actually smoked since the first one. Almost a week now. It smells like a re-lighted half smoked cigarette with a fresh heat stick. It is essentially a smaller cigarette. They just made an elaborate method for people to CONTINUE SMOKING REGULAR TOBACCO and it tastes God AWFUL. Unlike vaping, you will smell like a regular smoker smells. Another thing is that the kit itself gets dirty easily.

Just to let you know, I haven't had a cigarette nor any tobacco based product ever since I started vaping a few years back. My SENSE OF SMELL returned to normal as well as my SENSE OF TASTE. I am no longer out of breath, home, and clothes my breath does not stink from smoking. I have NEVER smoked any single traditional cigarette since I switched to vaping and the only time I had a tobacco based product was with the IQOS which I dropped immediately for reasons already stated above. It only contains three ingredients with the fourth being optional. As an IQOS heeter, I can at least say: I don't stink anymore after heeting, after one heet I can climb stairs without the feeling of leaving my lunges at the bottom of the stairs, I don't have this desgusting taste in my mouth or yellow stuff on my tongue. When I tried smoking a normal cigarette it was SOOO disgusting because you can literally taste all the aside chemicals as well. And last plus: when winter is cold, I can heet inside. Those are the pluses I noticed. What I do noticed and am wondering is, my body swells easier when warm outside. So I need much more hidration. In Germany they suggest to drink 1.5-2 liters a day, and I got always at least the 1.5l (am not such a good water drinker, go more for bubbled water with 1/4 of Apple juice). Now I am at 2.5 liters per day. Hope the information kind of helps. Blessings!

I'm now 5 months free of all nicotine products and let me tell you, i tried to quit normal cigarettes countless times but never lasted more than 4 days. With iqos i quit cold turkey and it's been 5 months now (this is my first attempt). It's crazy how easier it was for me to quit with iqos than regular cigs.

I’ve been on these now for over a month, I can say that my health is better, I don’t wheeze like I used to, my colour in my face has come back, I sleep better, more energy than before, lot less mucus, I’ve gone from hard cigarettes from 25 a day to 5/7 a day. I have tried everything to stop smoking, I hav had zero sucsess. I have tried 4 different vaping devices, I have tried different mix of juice and it has been impossible to get it down.. once in my mouth, i chocke and cough it all out. I hve tried low watt, high watt full opening of air and closed.. nothing was possible.. I have tried nicotin patches, gum, willpower and hypnoses, nothing works.. So I have found my place as a smoker of regular rolling tobacco, as I hate filters and the taste of it.. So I did finde Iqos.. I tried it and the first 2 days I used it 70% with 30% regular smoke, the tird day I did 1 and 1/2 smoke as the second one tasted like paper and parfume, After that I now have been compleetly regular tobacco free for 3 days, And it is going very well. The last 2 days I have found my vaping devices, and now i have no problems with them what so ever. Seems like my troath needed a break from regular tobacco first. Ofcours this is made by a multi billion dollar company, who have made money on people killing themself with tobacco.. But, why should I let that come in the way of my helt becomming better. I have not coughed since I started using this device, and my smoking cough was really really bad after beeen smoking rolling tobakko withought filters for 30 years.. Iqos does give me 40% of the pleasure of a smoke.. it last shorter, and not everytime I get good smoke, Still it is enough to keep me going, withough getting desperate.. I have also no panic in the morning when waking up, can take my time befor I smoke. Now I change between Iqos and Vape.. And will probaly in the future switch to vape, and sometime later hopfully quit all togheter. No matter what a greate product, witch is not risk free, but oh so much less harmfull than regular smoke. I belive this time I will make it and regular smoke is already behinde me.. Ofcours this product is illigal still in norway.. what a joke.. Hi at all. I am a smoker for 25 years. I tried vaping and there was no problem until some allergy start to appear. Lips, mouth irritated ecc. I have started iqos. At the begging I found it awful compared with vaping. But after some days (1 week) everything ok. Feel better without irritation and the most important no traditional cigarette anymore! I think that it works. My opinion is to smoke-vape anything except the traditional cigarettes, for sure is better.

This product is a tax on stupidity and is NOTHING like vaping. I used to smoke at least 30 cigarrettes per day, after a pneumonia I tried to quit, then a friend talked me into try iQos.. Im truly happy with the results... I know thats not heathy too but I feel so much better.. never coughed again like before ... if you dont believe thats a cleaner cigarrette just look at the filter when you done smoking,,, its white, not yellow, that is says a lot... and if you break the cigarrette you will see that it has 3 filters... You had the power of the vaping mod too high. Also you might have started with a vape juice with a very high nicotine content. Try using one with a lower nicotine content and regulate your mod to a lower heat setting.

its a big difference. One normal cigarette equals to 3-4 of the iqos. On top of that you cant smoke cigarette after cigarette you need to charge for 4- 5 minutes . for a heavy smoker like me this is a perfect solution. I feel much better and enjoining playing with the new toy.

Until recently, he was always distant. On my last trip to Munich, I tried and started at the IQOS store. it's been 10 days. I can smell the irritating smell of conventional cigarettes. No tiredness in the morning. One pack a day is enough. This may decrease further over time. Although stick prices are expensive in some countries, it is worth it for the comfort of life.

Yesterday I accidentally dropped my iqos in the water couldn't find. Today I got myself a brand new one. But in between I bought a pack of cigarettes and I hated it so bad!!! Ofcourse not smoking at all is the best option but for me a heavy smoker going to iqos have improved my health alot. I must note that i smoke ALOT less with iqos because i use a vape with nicotine salt i between. But we all agree not smoking is the best :D

I wouldn't choose IQOS as smoking alternative. It keeps the feeling of real smoking. Seeing and feeling a cigarette is more than 70% of cigarettes addiction. I chose an e-smoking ethod that uses liquid, and thank goodness I've stopped smoking cigarettes for four years now.

IQOS can definitely help you stop smoking combustion cigarettes because I personally cannot stand the smell of tar created by combustion cigarettes after getting used to IQOS. At first, I do not like the smell of IQOS, but if you are getting used to it, it will not be a problem. The only concern for me and for anyone should be if IQOS is really better than classic cigarettes.

After using it, iqos is much better alternative. but to much still not good. I switch either iqos and vape. Personally vape is also better but depend on the liquid we use. While iqos is completely standard.

E Cigarettes are better than other substitutes. Plus it's cheaper. But ultimately nothing is as good as smoking. Capris got lower tar level than the other brands. Maybe they should be looking at them as a better starting point.

Get them to vape it is much better. This product is a false assurance. It smells like a re-lighted half smoked cigarette with a fresh heat stick. It is essentially a smaller cigarette. They just made an elaborate method for people to CONTINUE SMOKING REGULAR TOBACCO and it tastes God AWFUL. Unlike vaping, you will smell like a regular smoker smells. Another thing is that the kit itself gets dirty easily.

News flash companies that make e-liquid and vaping devices are also looking to make money. They aren't doing it for the thrill of it. Neither are those who own Vape shops. Fact is a lot of people who smoke and try to quit with vaping actually liked the flavor of a cigarette. I vape but still find myself reaching for a cigarette because there are times that I just want that flavor. No burning tobacco means no need to add chemicals to keep it burning.

I've been clean and sober for 10 years. All attempts at stopping smoking have been failures, using the same method as stopping d and a. I vaped but coughed more than cigs. So i use these. I see it as harm minimisation. I agree that Morris want to profit, and are from me. What bothers me is it's not deemed safe in the US, probably means they're evil.

I have recommended many people to stop smoking cigs and try an alternative and they've never gone back. The FDA looked about all that propaganda, because the cigarette companies did kickbacks. The truth is that the companies that are involved with cigarettes are chemical companies and those companies have close ties with Pharmaceutical companies. They're all tired together. 4 of my friends and myself have switched completely to IQOS, I really gag at the smell and taste of a conventional cigarette....This seems to be funded by american tobacco association coz they cant change quick enough for a changing market.
