The first computer was super huge and bulky and had storage of like 5MB or something. Now we have 1TB hard drives, which are way smaller. If that was possible, then arc reactor could be possible.

what happens here is that the nuclear energy, that is the radiation is being directly converted into electrical thereby not creating heat as a bit product due to the radiation not sticking around to a larger extent. neil is approaching this with a conventional power plant law. which is something that harnesses the heat from the radiation or something like a tokomak which gets the plasma to the sun's temperature. in the arc reactor what were seeing is something like a fission process (not fusion) where the electrons from the radiation are siphoned through the ark into electrical and the neutrons are fused with sacrificial materials on the inside of the reactor who probably take the neutrons and fuse dispersing more electrons in the process and form more energy.

Arc reactor can produce power, you just need to draw away the heat or use the heat as an additional power source. Just because we can't figure it out now, does not mean we won't have a Tony Stark at a future date to do so

It's not that it gives off heat as an additional energy source, the heat IS the energy that was in the arc but dissipates due to the 2LOT. Furthermore this energy dissipated was not given off in fusion but the energy put into the reactor to start it up.

Just think about all the smart phones and smart gadgets with batteries we have now a days. How HOT they can get by just using them for longer period of time or doing multiple tasks / watching videos etc.. You can feel the heat on your hand from that tiny little battery sitting behind a cover. An Arc Reactor can be 1000s of times more powerful than those tiny batteries, how much heat will it produce? *Neil is right!*

As for gadgets, it's not the battery that makes it hot, it's the processing units. Of course the batteries gets hot but not to a point that it even comes close to the heat generation of CPUs. Batteries in electric cars, however, are probably the better example. Of course, the idea is the same but it's good to know some facts revolving around it.

The arc reactor is technically possible assuming we can discover or synthesize a material or isotope that is incredibly energetic and to be able to both react this material without accidentally causing fission via critical mass cascade and being able to harness all of the energy emitted, it would take ages to minituarize it to a chest reactor scale but its possible.. time will tell

the energy tony uses doesnt generate heat, hes talking ac. thermal dynamics is a by product of the way we think energy is created. inside the arc reactor the copper acts as a coolant, those are the blocks you see in every depiction. when he melts the piladium and makes rings, im assuming to hold a charge and reaction with the later design he uses a solid piece piladium for a stronger reaction and longer charge.

It’s on a minimal setting and dissipates heat through his chest and the open metal sides with some water cooling or something. When the suits on, there’s a major water forced cooling system or something like that

Count chocula the Heat generated in the arc reactor is insane. It would take more than 50 conventional radiators spread over at least two basketball courts at ambient room temperature and pump the size of a washing machine , and 500L reservoir coolant to cool it down or even more.

I would answer that question in a very different way. First form and function of his reactor requires a completely different definition of what a reactor is and what type of reactor is actually in his chest. Remember fireflies produce a vary high number of lumens without producing any heat. And what type of reactor is being viewed when looking at the reactor that is actually in his chest? Once those questions are answered then we may proceed with the rest of the equation that is Tony Stark heart.

Supposing that you are able to produce this technology in a finalized stage like that, you should be smart enough to make a counter measure for all of that heat produced. Anyone with intelligence to create this kind of reactor should be able to produce a cooling system that is powerful enough to oppose the said possibility that everything in its range would melt.

We are IF We know it's not actually real. And we know that to contain that much energy in that small a space whatever properties it has had to violate the laws of physics in some way., And it is a LOT of energy. It lasts a long time and he flies many thousands of miles including breaking the sound barrier. Not to mention using the control thrusters in his gloves as weapons. We're talking the energy equivalent of many tens if thousands of gallons of jet fuel at least and probably more like hundreds of thousands.

There might have been cooling properties to counteract the heat like that force field stuff we saw on droids in star wars revenge of the sith during Anakin and Obi Wans fight on Mustafar. That was vital to keep the droids that close to the lava without melting.

Well, since we can't get actual non-avian dinosaur DNA, not as it's portrayed in the film (and yes, I'm aware that we found TRACES of T-rex DNA inside a femur, but with that you can't clone anything), what we cand do for now though, is making birds look like non-avian dinosaurs by supressing the gens that supress the developing of a snout, tail and fingers and modify its posture (Jack Horner is working on that, look out for his "chicken-o-saurus")

I'm on my third run through the MCU. This time I am rewatching the saga from the point of view of Tony Stark. The first time I watched it it really his character really bugged me from Civil War on. This time around I'm seeing the story of the birth and growth of a hero who is trying to atone for the mistakes of his past, a hero who is destined to die. It's like the ending of Robin Hood where he finally wins only to die in the last story.

Maybe I am off base but aerogel internal shielding might be able to not allow the heat transfer. It shouldn't need replenishing like coolants do, it's practically weightless also. If the brittle nature is undesired then the other bendable pliable version could be used instead like nanotube or graphine aerogel.

Even though he is correct under our current technology and understanding of thermodynamics, the arc reactor was created based off of the energy that came from the tesseract, which housed the space stone, an elemental crystal created from the Big Bang (MCU story of the arc reactor) so we really don't have any understanding of the energy contained within the stone or how it's stored and works. We also have no idea what kind of power it is. So it's just one of those things that we can't really say whether or not is possible because we don't have anything like the infinity stones, that we know of.

My problem with the arc reactor is that Tony originally built it to keep shrapnel out of his heart, right? But with the power coming out of that thing, the shrapnel should have ripped right through his chest like metallic objects around an MRI. Then later on, he gets surgery to remove the shrapnel, and now the 4” hole in his chest is gone? What?
