The carved natural elephant looks like its carved from a Tagua nut. I collect antique buttons and many buttons were carved so the light area showed on them. Love your videos, followed your move to Florida and I live in Ocala during the winter. Saw you at Williston and we may compete a little. Thank you for all that you inform. (say hello to Potato Chip)

The little pewter piece with the flower in the middle is called a Quaich. A quaich, archaically quaigh or quoich, is a special kind of shallow two-handled drinking cup or bowl of a type traditional in Scotland. It derives from the Scottish Gaelic cuach (Scottish Gaelic pronunciation:), meaning a cup. The flower in the center is the Tudor Rose, representing the House of Lancaster, which the Tudor kings descended from. I do not believe it is 18th or 19th century, but perhaps the 20th. English and Scottish pieces are traditionally marked and you can look up these dating marks on various websites.

The carved elephant is carved from a Tagua Nut, oriental in nature I believe.
@pamavery9352

@Janet Rogers. FYI: We don’t say “Oriental” any more. It’s “Asian or Indonesian” people take offense at the term “oriental”. Be careful!
@JudyThompson.
@JudyThompson. Жыл бұрын
Janet you are correct calling the sculpture Oriental. Oriental means it’s characteristic of Asia be it style, furniture, art etc. Asian people of Asia, are referred to as Asian. I’m glad you knew what the elephant was. Thanks. 😊

I think the lidded pot is a mustard pot and looks to be Art Nouveau. It would have had a porcelain liner which explains the lid not closing properly. I don’t think the spoon is original to that piece. Angel hallmarks are usually German or Dutch.

That tin piece with the flowers and handles is a porringer. They were often used for feeding the ill and elderly porridge. There are also references to Paul Revere regarding them.

The double-handled quaich (Scottish) or porringer (English) is a small eating vessel originally used for soup, stew or porridge. Valued by American colonists, most American versions were single-handled. This design has been attributed to Metawa Holland although I cannot make out if it is a stamp on the backside of the handle or just scratches.

Sometimes estate sales confuse me. The person is typically passed, it's obvious family want to get rid of things. They price high and then stuck with things. My sister in law had one after her mom passed. She was overjoyed to work with people on prices with hopes it all found new homes. She made money with quality sold to clear the house for selling. My two cents...

Those pewter “cups” you were looking at were likely sets of measuring vessels, though I did not recognize what it said on the side. It looked like there were two different sets of varying sizes. Did you notice the carved bench in the first bedroom of the first house? I thought it was beautiful! Also loved that pineapple table, though I generally don’t care for glass table tops. The wicker bedroom set was neat, too, but their prices were high in that house.

The small pewter piece you thought was a stein, is actually a pitcher to measure liquid. The handle said ‘deciliter’. It is Dutch and a means 1/10th of a liter. We measure in liters here in the Netherlands. The markings on the bottom mean that they are approved and the content of the pitcher is accurate. They came in all sizes. 🙂

Kayserzinn was produced in Krefeld Germany from 1880 - 1910. If you find anything with a model number 4000 onwards it‘s produced later 1894\95. Zinn here in Germany has become very unpopular and literally flogged off at flea markets. You would have a ball if you are into this stuff.
