Isaac was who God promised to Abraham. Ishmael had come as a result of Sarah's frustration and desperation which led her to give her maid to her husband for a child So God knew what He meant when He called Isaac Abraham's only son.

And the answer is very simple, he had two sons, not one, and Ishmael was even the first, older son. So, author of the Bible did not know this fact.

It's no argument that issac pbuh was the promised son, but even bible is witness that Ishamael pbuh was the first born and the sacrifice and Ultimately chosen by God for his kingdom not Issac Pbuh since we can see this by how Jews treated Moses pbuh and Jesus pbuh. The peace in Jerusalem was only achieved by arab Muslims descendants of Ishmael pbuh, the promised kingdom of God. The promise which God made with Abraham pbuh.
