This has actually worked out great for Islam, IMO. *He* does not even hint at being Khabib's equal. Meanwhile, people who have been in the room with both of them are saying things like: -He's better than Khabib at X and Y." -"If anyone at LW could beat Khabib, it would be Islam." Everybody knows that Islam has been rolling with Khabib from day one. At least from a training perspective, we don't have to wonder about the level of competition he has faced, because he's been in there all along with the guy that noone could find a solution for. To my way of thinking, this lends him a tremendous amount of both mystique and credibility, and makes him very interesting, without his saying a word. Is he the "best"? How would I know? I know I'd like to see him and Charles fight in the near future, though!

For one, Islam's track record is no where near Khabib's, who has fought and cleared out the best in the LWD. What has Islam done??? We must stop with the this one is great in Islam and Khamzat until they GET BELTS AND DEFEND them. Hello! That's what great fighters do. Shyt like Islam beat Khabib some rounds, or Khamzat ain't been hit, is complete BS, compared to what Bones, Silva, GSP, Usman has accomplished. I personally think he could be a great champion if he learns the fight business a little better, which I think he's starting to do, which could make some very compelling matchups if someone poses a serious threat. Tbh I'm somewhat glad Khabib left the sport, even though I'd love to see him fight more. The lightweight division has been extremely competitive and exciting since Khabib left. Who else is there to be the champ at 155 and that is interesting Chael ? It's not like these other guys are more interesting, at least Islam has that Khabib aura around him and can build a story around that. Islam is the most interesting that has the potential to be the belt holder
@saberxebeck2 жыл бұрын
Exactly my feeling, all the other top 10's are old and past their prime. Once islam beats olivera who else is their to topple him? BeniI??? hah, the actual odds given for him to beat islam already prooved how unlikley that is. Islam will stay lightweight champ for as long as he wants. Yes theirs always a punchers chance but theirs a gap between Ilsam and Olivera and then a gap between the rest of the division below that.
@lucasmcclain30882 жыл бұрын
At 155 I honestly think he is man. I know I know he hasn't faced the hardest competition but like, do some imaginative critical thinking and tell me one person who beats him... I really don't think anyone can beat him man, he's finishing dudes quicker than Khabib was. People who train with him say he's better than Khabib also... I mean its tough to say right now cuz his opponents keep pulling out and he's forced to fight lower ranked guys on short notice which sucks for everyone, but I think he beats anyone you put in front of him handedly. Rankings aside, Bobby Green and Dan Hooker are two of the toughest mother fuckers on the planet and he made them look like amateurs.

nobody who trains with makhachev says he is better than khabib; they say he is "more well-rounded." There is a big difference between those statements. The best is the champion. Someone has to beat the champ to be the champ, thus making him the best. If not then why fight for it. In SPORTS...its about being the Champion. In the Olympics, is silver better than gold..NO!! The belt ends the argument or ring or medal..whatever represents the Champion. I'm old and don't give one care about being politicly correct or even nice about it...the best is the Champion. You, yourself Mr.Sonnen wrestled...did you do it for second place..No, why? Because then you would not have been the best. Most Popular is not the best and second place trophy's go in a box whilst 1st place goes on a shelf.
@ReggieBowe2 жыл бұрын
You’re right, but as far as Olympics go that’s the only time when 2nd and 3rd are still admirable. You’re literally the 2nd or 3rd best in the world at your sport. Anything else is exactly how you said it. Edit: I’m talking about how an Olympic medal wouldn’t “go in the box” or be viewed as a participation trophy.

I think you have a point but people come for the fight always have. The stories make it all the better, but same thing could be said about Khabib. I can't tell you how many comments I've read saying he was boring when he was still active. That in itself draws a crowd hoping for the demise. I personally don't care about the drama. I'm here for the sport in all it's glorious brutality. Gaethje for example; one of my favorites overall he's a very respectful individual, but in the cage he is chaos and that's what draws me to it. Also if Islam reigns supreme one of two things should happen if there are none worthy to match his skill set move up in weight; but I think like Khabib he will find his Conor and that will be your story that you have to have. He will find his true distaste for someone and may the better fighter win.
