This week I’m driving the new Santa Fe, Hyundai’s super boxy midsize three-row SUV that can fit a bunch of people. This one has the XRT off-road package, marketed directly at people who envision that they’ll regularly take their Santa Fe on dirt roads, but in reality probably not so much. But in this video, we’re going to do it! Today we’ll talk about how it drives, take a close look at the interior, see what’s good, and see what’s bad. We'll also find out if the XRT is decent in the dirt, or if it’s just a fancy appearance package.

Glad to see them embrace unique styling, but overall I feel like it’s still overly bloated. My first car was an 04 Santa Fe, and it was a front wheel drive manual that came with a Santa Fe chrome pushbar and side rails. It was a bubbly little suv, and I loved it so much! It seems like every vehicle trend is to get bigger and bigger every year.

that center console is AWESOME. Also I dig the styling on this thing. It and the Ioniq cars are really going for a futuristic 80s vibe. Hyundai's channeling some sort of cyberpunk aesthetic with these vehicles.

8.3" of ground clearance. That's less than the Subaru Outback SUV that some people still mistakenly call a wagon. I do like the looks of this thing from all angles except the rear. It really reminds me of the 1980's S10 Blazers, early Explorers, Troopers, and Rodeos back in the day. But that rear... Ugh.

Hyundai looks like they were trying to do a throwback to the Hyundai Galloper which was really just a Pajero

Ethan, I gave myself an extra day to come up with a comment. Like most Hyundais, this Santa FE looks like it fell out of the styling tree and hit every branch on the way down. 😉

IMO, DCTs should be limited to performance cars and supercars. This is neither of those and would have been better with a CVT or a torque converter automatic.

Hybrid have better transmition. 6AT is better for offroad than DCT

That things ugly. Especially the rear end. Boxy doesn't always translate to retro and rugged styling. It's fat and bloated. Older style boxy vehicles also had more intricate trims and details that also complimented the boxyness, like the ribs down the side of an old 93 to 95 jeep grand cherokee zj or an pre face-lift xj. At least there trying, though.

I do love the dash vents design, though, as well as the center console. It's also nice that the rear bench can recline.
