They seemed to edit out a lot of the loading times while using it in desktop mode, and you could see while he was loading up youtube just how slow it was pushing out the entire webpage. This is not a "desktop replacement" in a phone but its a neat gimmick nonetheless. It just has no way of having the horsepower to do very much, especially when most people don't have vacant monitors, keyboards and mice like around their house.

Even if it was as simple as plugging into the dock and you're ready to go you still need all the other desktop accessories just to have a really underpowered pc. What's the point other than having just another marketing angle because it certainly won't be for legitimate productivity purposes

I use continuum all the time actually and I like it a lot, it was slow on my 950 with the 808 chip, but I just got an alcatel idol 4S with the 820 SoC and it is so incredibly fast. No lag at all while using continuum with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. I left just a monitor and kb/mouse at my parents house, whenever I visit I can actually get work done. Even more so now with my new Idol 4S. Even through miracast it's smooth as butter! However, you're right about it not being a "desktop replacement". It's just a proof of concept for now. And MS recently demoed a version of full Windows 10 running on an ARM processor, the 820 too I believe. Here's to hoping MS doesn't mess this up, which they probably will, unfortunately.

Unfortunately I would not rely on continuum. These windows phones have a ARMS architecture and not a 86x architecture. Meaning you are running windows RT on the phone. Its just a word processor and an email machine. I want so badly for them to put the Intel chip that they put in the portable USB chip on a stick for the 86x architecture so we can actually run FULL windows from our Phones! Otherwise its a waste of our time.. I honestly have NO IDEA why they would stick to a ARMS processor after having computers as small as thumb drives and be powered by USB and not include it in the phones.

Because it was released at the end of Windows Mobile agony and the continuum itself was crappy (I had a dock with my Lumia 950XL and I used it only once to test it). The irony is that Android does a much better desktop environment than Windows Mobile did (e.g. in DeX) but the idiots at HP keep the Lapdock in the attic instead of tweaking it slightly and releasing it for Android. The only thing they would have to do is drop the wireless communication module and fix some minor bugs. Meanwhile thousands of kickstarter and indiegogo backers lost money to companies promissing to recreate the same functionality as lapdock had (e.g. superbook).

Michael Burkhart You can't compare a computer to a phone. You can't just say I'd rather build a PC. What are you gonna do, put your PC in out pocket and take it everywhere. Phones are expensive because they cost a lot to make. You think it's easy to make a custom built chassis with custom boards and parts? Probably not. When you build a PC you're just putting things together in a prebuilt case. When you make a phone everything has to be machine manufactured. Get the difference?

Why not? I know lots of people who gave up their computers when they got their phones. Myself, however, I have both. (Sometimes the convenience of a phone is outweighed by a physical keyboard and a screen that won't even fit in a backpack.) I realize phones are expensive, as I have a Galaxy S7 (paid over $600 for it). I also know how expensive computers are, as I spent over $1300 for my last custom build. Yes, it was industry standard parts, and not even remotely pocket-size. So, given that my top-of-the-line phone (when I bought it) cost me half what the computer did, kind of refutes your argument, doesn't it? But, I am also aware of 3-D printing, custom fabrications, and other relatively new technologies that, although certainly not cheap, makes custom phones feasible. And yet, I'm not the one who first brought up price. My argument was about the app libraries of Android vs iPhones vs Windows phones... And my first argument was little more than a sarcastic dig at the iPhone 7, which Zohonde Kids caught (though I hope he budgets more than $20 for his next phone).

I've been a windows phone fan for a while so I saved up and got this to replace my Lumia 950 XL and love it! This is how windows phones were meant to be! Love the fingerprint scanner, speakers, and water resistance also! Not to mention the ability to use it as a sort of Chromebook-esc version of a Windows Computer which worked well enough for me but don't use it as my main PC. I haven't thought this before but HP seems to be making some really good quality stuff now!

It runs a super basic version of Windows, which cannot run x86 application (since the phone has an ARM architecture) and that seems a bad deal for me, because you can get an amazing desktop/laptop for that price.

I'll jump on this if they add an integrated, yet modular powerbank and more USB ports for external HDDs, SSDs and whatnot. I need the dock to be more functional and hefty since I won't carry it with me, it's fine it's a bit larger and somewhat futureproof with things that can be upgraded. Nah, At this moment Android is for sure better (objectively) but i really love windows mobile and wish it would succeed, since having only 2 options is unhealty for the consumer market and there is no literally competition between those 2 since they have loyal users. I really wish we Windows Mobile and Blackberry OS and UbuntuOs succeed since we , users, would benefit most from it :)
