The Zoo got its newest member and it's kind of hard to tell what it is 😆 it lives underwater normally but is able to live out of water for years 😳 this is one crazy animal and wait til you see how weird it looks up close and personal! African Lungfish are definitely prehistoric animals and this one is a monster fish!

@@lovemesomepickles if you use tongs, no problem. If you use fingers, problem. Mine will take in a piece of dry dog kibble, crunch it up, and seconds later slowly spit out a ribbon of flat mucousy gunk, then take it back in and swallow it. That's how they eat. If they'll do that to hard kibble, imagine that's your soft finger. Jay's fish is big enough to take your entire finger. Your choice. Go for it.

Super cool animal! I had the pleasure of assisting the Veterinarian (I'm a Veterinary Technician) to give 14 stitches to a huge African Lungfish about 4 months ago! The texture is weird! And because it can breathe oxygen, it can be sedated with Isoflorine gas mixture. Pretty cool! Great addition to your collection! Please dedicate a full video to only him and his amazing evolutionary design! ✌️😄🫁🦈🐍

His enthusiasm reminds me so much of Steve & Robert Irwin! I wonder if that's just a natural by-product of dealing w/ reptiles, amphibians &fish...maybe something in the fish mucus soaks thru the skin...?
@nonnyena4267
@nonnyena4267 3 жыл бұрын
@elgur i understand that they have different approaches, but i'm not sure i agree completely with your assessment. The Irwins' approach to helping save animals was/is by educating people how they _all_ have beauty - in their form, or...maybe 'elegance' would be a better descriptor... the way they fit & fill their niches...Most people can look at a puppy - something soft & fuzzy with big eyes & think "What's not to love?" Or even a baby sloth - same thing. But when you can help others to *_see_* the beauty in an animal's strength or stealth or skills, an animal that isn't soft & fluffy, that helps more people recognize the worth & value that a species contributes to the ecology...One of the side-effects of re-introducing wolves to Yellowstone that caught some scientists offguard was the changes in the landscape & how quickly those changes occurred. Really brings Home that we *_need_* apex predators where they belong. I've never heard this guy talk about selling any of these animals. I _have_ heard him wax _almost_ poetic over their beauty & talk alot about form & function -- educating people -- which has a _lot_ to do with saving specific animals, but also species and preserving their natural habitats. Part of my original point - & i guess i didn't realize that it'd need to be s p e l l e d o u t q u i t e s o s p e c i f i c a l l y - is (1) his enthusiasm _reminds_ me of the enthusiam Steve and Robert Irwin portrayed / portrays during their interactions with wildlife & (2) i think their enthusiasm is refreshing as well as contagious and (3) it's always easier to learn something from someone who genuinely cares about what they are speaking on.

Also since you're now into rescuing fish can you please put in information like the size they get and what size system they need. Too many people don't do the research and just impulse buy. Especially red tail cats. Also I hope you know those cats will eat everything in there. Check out predatory fins. They're on KZbin as well. They can help you with any questions you have regarding any of the fish you have. If you get into stingrays check out stingray biology. He's amazing with stingrays.

It's a Sarcopterygii Rhipidistian, those are lobed fins. There are only two extant groups of Sarcopterygii FISH, Lungfish and Coelocanth, but ALL of us Tetrapods are Sarcopterygii Rhipidistians, not not fish (anymore). ALL tetrapod arms and legs developed from lobed fins (NOT Actinopterygii, rayed fin fishes) Post Metazoa clades we humans share with "Lungfish": KINGDOM: Anamalia aka Metazoa (animals) Subkingdom: Eumetazoa (true animals) Clade: Parahoxozoa Clade: Bilateria (bilaterally symmetrical animals) Clade: Nephrozoa Superphylum: Deuterostomia (the anus forms first, the mouth second) Phylum: Chordata Clade: Olfactores (olfactory system) Subphylum: Vertebrata Infraphylum: Gnathostomata (everything with jaws) Clade: Teleostomi Clade" Euteleostomi Superclass: Osteichthyes (bony fish) Clade: Sarcopterygii (lobed fin "fish", this is an important clade) Clade: Rhipidistia (fish with lungs essentially) ----THIS IS WHERE LUNFISH DIVERGE FROM THE LINE THAT BECOMES TETRAPODS. ####################### Taxonomically we Homo sapiens are: ...alot of stuff starting with Eukaryota (beings with Eukaryotic cells decended from Eukaryotic cells) and then eventually: KINGDOM: Anamalia aka Metazoa (animals) Subkingdom: Eumetazoa (true animals) Clade: Parahoxozoa Clade: Bilateria (bilaterally symmetrical animals) Clade: Nephrozoa Superphylum: Deuterostomia (the anus forms first, the mouth second) Phylum: Chordata Clade: Olfactores (olfactory system) Subphylum: Vertebrata Infraphylum: Gnathostomata (everything with jaws) Clade: Teleostomi Clade" Euteleostomi Superclass: Osteichthyes (bony fish) Clade: Sarcopterygii (lobed fin "fish", this is an important clade) Clade: Rhipidistia (fish with lungs essentially) Clade: Tetrapodamorpha Clade: Eotetropodaformes Clade: Elpistostegalia Clade: Stegocephalia Superclass: Tetrapoda (4 limbs) Clade: Reptiliomorpha Clade: Amniota (amniotic eggs) Clade: Synapsida Clade: Mammaliaformes Class: Mammalia (mammals, we have mammary glands) Subclass: Theria Clade: Eutheria Infraclass: Placentalia (placental mammals) Magnorder: Boreoeutheria Superorder: Euarchontagliers Grandorder: Euarchonta Mirorder: Primatamorpha Order: Pan-primates, Order: Primata (primates) Suborder: Haplorhini (dry nose primates) Ifraorder: Semiiformes (all monkeys and apes) Parvorder: Catarrhini (old world monkeys) Superfamily: Hominoidea (old world tailless simians) Family: Hominidae (great apes) Subfamily: Homininae (African Apes) Tribe: Hominini (Chimps, Bonobos and Humans) Genus: Homo (all humans. ie. erectus, heanderthalensis, heidelbergensis, sapien, ergaster etc) Species: sapien kzbin.info/aero/PLXJ4dsU0oGMLnubJLPuw0dzD0AvAHAotW
