Is It a Rocket or a Boat? World Speed Record from US to Cuba In 90Minutes

In initial test drives, The APACHE STAR has achieved speeds in excess of 115 knots, and even faster speeds may be seen when it attempts to set the world record for the fastest crossing between Key West, Florida, and Havana, Cuba on August 1, 2015.
The APACHE STAR is the most famous Deep-V offshore Kevlar and carbon fiber race boat in history. Originally named APACHE HERITAGE, the boat broke multiple records and won world championships in 1992 and 1993 while writing powerboat history as the first sit-down Deep-V in the world.
Following more than 7,000 hours of painstaking work to refurbish the boat to as-new condition, The APACHE STAR once again wears it’s famed Number 50 in anticipation of it’s new world record attempt. Modern upgrades to the boat include new custom-made helmets and Recaro racing bucket seats that utilize technologies developed for next-generation fighter jets, plus twin Mercury Racing bi-turbo engines that generate a combined total of 2,700 horsepower.

The title says Key West to Havana in 90 minutes. The the boat owner say they will make it in an hour. I’ve been to the races in Key West, sat on a catamaran in the middle of the course. Had a racer lose control and fly over us totally out of control. I understand the concept. This video comes off as clickbait. The record of crossing from K.W. to Havana is significant. But who else has gotten the approval and done it, and what was their time? How often has it been contested? This presentation reduces the run to being a vanity activity (which it is). Love to see context and make this worthwhile. All in all, I’d rather go fishing on the sargasso line about 50-60 miles out, then back to Half Shell, El Siboney, off The Hook or Hogfish to eat what we caught.

Merc did a lot of long distance testing on the 1350 then switched to the 1550 motor for more testing. It didn't take long before they put it on the market and they've sold like chocolate cake. Running even 120 for a long cruise is not likely to hurt these engines.

The destination was Ernest Hemingway marina........or whatever the hell it's called, and the distance was 110 miles in 90 minutes. The AVERAGE speed was supposedly 73 mph. Furthermore: this boat has already broken top speed records in excess of 115 knots, which equates to about 140 MPH. So let's see you run anywhere near that fast, or attempt to make that run where some areas are rough seas in your rinky dink "Wave Runner". You couldn't even carry enough fuel to make it, dumb ass.
