Is it a Scam? Investigating No CO2 Red Plants

This episode is the first episode in which I found my voice!
I'm talking about growing aquarium plants without using CO2 fertilizers. I emphasize the growth of red plants, because they seem more spectacular to me, but at the same time more difficult to grow. You can see how the red plants looked in the first 2-3 months and how they look now. Also, I will tell you two reasons why red plants, in the absence of CO2 and liquid fertilizers, can stop their growth.

Hello from my fish room channel in Chicago, where I am a subscriber to yours! Absolutely the massive reduction in photo period and intensity caused the red plants to suffer. Next time, same plants but keep the lights strong as possible and fight algae in other ways.

Red ludwigia, red crypt, and red Lilly are the only 3 I have had survive and thrive without c02 or chemicals just aquatic soils with a good light

Ludwigia repens works everywhere for me, it's very tough. no co2, low light, low temperatures in winter. But the more it gets, especially light, the faster it grows and gets better colors

Some recommendations:- worked for me in my dirted tank with sand cap no CO2 setup. 1) ludwigia repens 2) alternanthera reinekii 3) rotala wallichi 4) red root floater 5) rotala rotundafolia 6) red tiger lotus(put this in pot or it's root system will strangle other plant's roots) Tip:-(Try to keep the nitrates within 5 ppm and yes, light intensity matters but red lighting is the thing that matters. Red plants need red lighting so they can reflect it back. High intensity RGBW lighting is the way to go.

My favorite lower tech red plant is red tiger lotus, the only thing i use is leaf zone fertilizer/co2 wise to supplement more iron to make them extra red. It would be interesting to see how they turn out without it

@@walstadmethodstepbystep it definitely can shade out stuff under it, but you can "train" it to only grow to a certain height by trimming any leaves that grow taller than that. I use it mostly in the background in my tanks, usually behind a piece of hardscape so I don't have to worry too much avout the shade issue

I have done the same and my red plants are doing good especially ludwigia sp mini red. In my experience this was the only plant which remained red and thrived though the red colour was less vibrant if we compare it with CO2. The second was ludwigia repens, which is not a red plant but only has a hue of red in the back of its leaf. The only difference is your way to fight algae, I generally use some liquid carbon to fight algae and do frequent water changes but I don't reduce intensity or photoperiod of the light

Ive had one Alternanthera plant survive in my natural aquarium. Its kept right under a bright LED floodlight so perhaps thats why its the only one out of the 10 Althera plants Ive bought. its got a huge root system now so I dont see it going anywhere either.
