I think you pay mostly for learning. If you have the knowledge you can get most for free. You need a container. Second hand or through an aquarium society, you can get it almost for free. Light is essential, and sunlight should be avoided for several reasons. But there are many possible solutions depending on how you live. Plants and fish/animals is up to interest. 100 years from now standard was to just collect outdoors but you need a lot of knowhow. I live in Sweden and the aquatic fauna and flora here hibernate more or less during winter which might cause problems. Much easier is tropical or even better subtropical animals so you can skip the heater. I would say lowest possible is about 10-50 Euro/USD for animals and that is all. There is no upper limit. On the other hand. Learning from trial and error, will teach you how an ecosystem works. If all urban people gets that knowledge, there will still be hope for the earth to survive...

Maybe your snails have too much food and don't touch hair green algae Google: Ramshorn snails are known to eat soft green hair algae, which is a type of filamentous algae that grows on surfaces in aquariums. They are attracted to the soft, green algae and will graze on it to help keep the aquarium clean. Do Ramshorn Snails Eat Green Hair Algae? Yes, Ramshorn snails are known to eat green hair algae. They are attracted to the soft, green algae and will graze on it to help keep the aquarium clean. They are one of the best snail species for controlling green hair algae in aquariums.

Mine have been eating all the hair algae off the hornwort in their tank so it probably just depends on your shrimps and how you're feeding them. Not to mention the sources I've found online seem to all say they can.

@@dognbundad they eat biofilm off of algae and literally anything, but they don't actually eat the algae. Neocaridina shrimp to be specific. The internet isn't reliable, different sources will say different things, but in my experience as a neocardina keeper, they do NOT eat hair algae

Some recommendations:- worked for me in my dirted tank with sand cap no CO2 setup. 1) ludwigia repens 2) alternanthera reinekii 3) rotala wallichi 4) red root floater 5) rotala rotundafolia 6) red tiger lotus(put this in pot or it's root system will strangle other plant's roots) Tip:-(Try to keep the nitrates within 5 ppm and yes, light intensity matters but red lighting is the thing that matters. Red plants need red lighting so they can reflect it back. High intensity RGBW lighting is the way to go.

@@walstadmethodstepbystep it definitely can shade out stuff under it, but you can "train" it to only grow to a certain height by trimming any leaves that grow taller than that. I have done the same and my red plants are doing good especially ludwigia sp mini red. In my experience this was the only plant which remained red and thrived though the red colour was less vibrant if we compare it with CO2. The second was ludwigia repens, which is not a red plant but only has a hue of red in the back of its leaf. The only difference is your way to fight algae, I generally use some liquid carbon to fight algae and do frequent water changes but I don't reduce intensity or photoperiod of the light

I think if you trim a plant, you will encourage it to grow more because the production of phytohormones like auxines and gibberellins will increase. And it will make it consume more nutrients.
@walstadmethodstepbystep

Will Ghost shrimp eat Medaka eggs or fry?
@walstadmethodstepbystep
@walstadmethodstepbystep Ай бұрын
Ghost shrimp may eat fish eggs or fry if they are small enough and vulnerable. Some users have reported that Ghost shrimp have eaten feeder guppies, baby krib fry, and even snail eggs. However, it’s also mentioned that Ghost shrimp may not be interested in eating certain types of eggs or fry, such as Fathead Minnow eggs. It’s worth noting that Ghost shrimp are known to eat a wide range of food sources, including algae, detritus, and small invertebrates. They are opportunistic feeders and will consume whatever is available in their environment.

I'm not sure why the fish wouldn't eat up your baby shrimp. I've always caught fish with shrimp! My shrimp tank is dedicated to shrimp and all the little pond things that get added when I top iit off. I have a small sponge filter in the tank that i change out every 6 months, or not since the shrimp love to be on it and eat whatever is there!? So maybe the fish are feasting on the babies? I have boatloads of babies in there! And cool variations since they are mixed! Blues, goldens, greens, red on tail and fin clear in the middle and now brendle colored, like dogs!
