Dude you from india ? Could you share more about youre journey. The reason i asked wether youre born and bred in india or not because im from there too.i wanted to know what is gonna happen in tech and if the things im learning will take me anywhere, im a bsc cs student almost at my last year and let me tell you the system us utter grabage anyone with above average skills would be able to learn it all by themselves;my point being that being present during lecture provides absolutely nothing. I think youre well informed about our indian ed-system , its far behind the European one ; and the European students themselves complain how their system isnt adequate and could you major improvements. Not going to lie im not a really good theory student who loves to cram notes(i was but not as of now) . I like learning stuff by jumping in and hitting a wall forming questions and then finding answers. But they do it the other way around. The rant aside, could you elaborate on youre journey or if you got another chance then how would you do it . Also how s the future.

This was both my parents, both of them have had a wide variety of jobs. My mother was a lumberjack, landscaper, accountant, waitress, general manager, funeral director, medical examiner, flower shop owner, EMT, delivery driver, Census taker, day care owner, nurse, ex-ray technician, butcher, cook, teacher, receptionist. My father was a Semi truck driver, farmer, judge, landscaper, forklift operator, delivery driver, EMT, General Manager, business owner, restaurant owner, waiter, cook, country treasurer, mapmaker, police dispatcher, jailer, preacher, oil rig worker.

Who says she didn't? perhaps she just got tired of some of them and came to dislike them that's the benefits of having that much experience across so many fields you have the freedom to do whatever you want and have a job that pleases you and if you become tired of it there's a hundred more out there in various fields to refresh. And while that may be a lifestyle that's up to the person to decide if they enjoy it rather than just settling on one thing and doing it for the rest of your days. After much thought, perhaps a "T Skill Tree" is best, typically. Everything has a skill cap or at least a relative one. Once that it is reached (or before), it is best to specialize in something, but also learning a few other things.

I assume you watched TierZoo's vid on bears and yea being a bit smaller lets black bear able to climb better than brown bears but not by much. Cuz yes, Brown Bears can also climb trees and have bigger bulk that helps against predators.

Im an architect, so photography, videography, graphic design, 3d art, painting, drawing and general designing can be useful, still my job is doing 1 thing but me as a creative I like to do all of them and trying to be master of all trades. I would say it's better to work towards being a generalists but not a generalists in the typical definition of it. I don't mean try and master everything but become intermediate at the skills you learn. The skills you learn while working towards it will help in other fields or in your personal life like me i got to a journeymens level skill in the trades industry. Theoretically i buy a house after a few years or working, then while moving in or living there for a month or so the deck outback collapses and the house starts needing all these repairs or starts falling apart. Ill never need to hire a contractor to come and do the repairs

You need to master in one field to get famous or rich. Jack of trades won't make you famous because there is always a person who can do better than you in every field. For example Messi is famous, rich and living his dream life because he mastered in football. But a guy who is just good in football, tennis, singing, dancing, swimming and running won't ever be as recognisable than the person who is world famous for a specific talent.

Thank you for this video. It was quite a soothing balm to a problem I'm having at the moment. I'm reading a book about learning and skill acquisition, and I'm finding it very interesting, but it is also suggesting that in order to be a high achiever, you must prioritise what you learn, and you must learn for a purpose. I like to learn because I like to learn, I don't *necessarily* have a reason (though often I do). And I do know that there's one skill I am most passionate about developing which is writing/storytelling, but I am always looking for new knowledge to put into my stories and my essays and improve my understanding of the world - as well as the skills that will help me navigate it. Many people that I admire are polymaths to some degree or other. Many are masters of one particular thing. Both are great. I simply think I would grow bored, being a master of only one thing (though I do want to become a master of writing, to some degree; but I think there is endless room to learn and know more there).

Something I share with my students. Think of animals like the giant panda, or the koala, both REQUIRE a specific type of plant for their diet, almost exclusively. If a disease/fungus/pest hits their required plant one year, it can cause extinction of the species. Now think of the raccoon. As long as there is something remotely edible around, they are fine. Cat food, trash can food scraps, dead opposum on the side of the road, a dirty diaper left in the park, they will feast and carry on.

Idk if it applies to me or not but I somehow know a little bit about everything. Like someone will bring up a random topic ranging from martial arts to hacking LITRALLY anything and I’ll be able to hold up a decent conversation with them without being entirely clueless of what they’re talking about. That’s good right? But when I see people around me they all have at least one thing they have extensive Knowledge about say a sport, I’ve seen people personally invested in things yk like celebrities, anime and stuff but that sorta thing just never happened with me. I’m not exactly the best at anything just okay at everything. I like playing tennis but can’t case of school. I get Decent grades, I’m not obsessively into anything at all, I like art but I’m not good at it, I like dancing but just for the fun of it, like just going crazy when music is on a high volume like in concerts ig? It just makes me feel like I don’t exactly have a very interesting personality, it’s all just very mouldable depending on the people I’m with..

I truly believe in focusing on one thing. Focusing on alotta things uses alotta resources. Lemme use something to make you understand what the difference of specialist and a generalist. Generalist is average or bad at everything else but the best at his something. And specialists are well rounded people, meaning they don't have weaknesses but they don't have strengths either.

But isn't a generalist's something being enough at everything? You sound like your contradicting yourself because 'average or bad at everything but best at his something' sounds very much like a specialist. Example:a specialist who'se thing is physics or biology wont be able to do coding or will averagely whilst a generalist could do both, even though the generalist does worse than the specialist in the specialist's field, the generalist's field is way wider than the specialist which gives the generalist and advantage over the specialist in many places, alongside that your statement of specialists not having weaknesses but no strengths either sound more like a generalist. Generalists have as i said a wider variety of knowledge they can apply but its less than any specialist doing any field, this is an example of having no strengths Generalists have knowledge for multiple fields so they can have more variety in their life, a specialist knows a lot about their field but outside of that they do have their weaknesses, if it's not obvious this is an example of a generalist having no weaknesses.

Modern day "trades" you have to be a jack of all trades. In the early days of industrialisation you would have trades where one individual would be master of one or a few specific areas of competence like woodwork, upholstery, metalwork, gardening etc.

Just ask all of those recently fired from Twitter/Facebook/ tech industry. They are almost mostly one shot wonders and it will be awhile before they will be finding work If you do not have many skillsets you are doomed to failure in your life. A jack of all trades is never better than a master one. The example they give are just soft skills that help you with your mastery of trades; these are not other trades. It is always have a mastery of at least one trade and compound that mastery with skills that can go beyond your works in order to create something else for you to master or someone else. I did like the end because I never got why we couldn't have mastery and jack of all trades. It always seem like people were repeating other statement without a thought of their own.

you’re missing a lot of things to come to that conclusion. What happens if he’s good at everything, does he continue to develop on it? Personally, a master of all can learn much faster than just a master of one (due to the amount of connections you can make), but at the start it is always slower. Of course if he learns but never truly solidify this knowledge, it’ll go no where. Knowledge without application is just wasted potential.
