We're super surprised to find that our animated videos are suddenly trending out of nowhere, so thank you all for checking our little channel out! You may be surprised to find that our channel is actually mostly comprised of other types of videos, mainly talking head/podcasts, NOT animated videos like these. This is because we did these animated videos as a one-off project in 2021 with money from a government grant. Animated videos are not cheap so as a small team of 4-6 people, we don't have a lot of resources to spend most of our time making cartoons. The reason i asked wether youre born and bred in india or not because im from there too.i wanted to know what is gonna happen in tech and if the things im learning will take me anywhere, im a bsc cs student almost at my last year and let me tell you the system us utter grabage anyone with above average skills would be able to learn it all by themselves;my point being that being present during lecture provides absolutely nothing. I think youre well informed about our indian ed-system , its far behind the European one ; and the European students themselves complain how their system isnt adequate and could you major improvements. Not going to lie im not a really good theory student who loves to cram notes(i was but not as of now) . Being a jack of all trades is good for running a business well or being in a managering position because you understand the many roles you have to supervise whereas being a specialist is good for making a name for yourself in a certain position you specialized in and being an expert in it. They both have pros and cons and you have to see which one you prefer more : having (on average) more money/ more job security or being more respected/ making a change in society all by yourself. You can use it to open up new horizons and either develop skillsets more quickly or explain things in a way no one does. It's hard to give you an example, but there are certain skillsets in life which require you to be a jack of all trades sort of guy to be successful in it: In sports, you have athletics. In martial arts, you have MMA. In the tech industry, you have cyber security (requires good programming, IT and often electrical engineering skills) These sort of skills put together what you've learned in all smaller, more specialized skills and being a jack of all trades in a group of skills can make your learning curve much more efficient in those skillsets where you need many sub-skills to succeed. I'm not sure if my explanation is that understandable, but maybe you'll see what I mean

The best solution is probably to find a field where it balances all your skill sets (not interests) into one big umbrella. This enhances your chances of specialising in multiple fields rather than finding connections across contrasting fields and then innovating according to that. It’s important to find a sweet spot.

One of my personal mantras is to : be a jack of all trades, but a master of one. This is especially vital if you are something like a solo game developer. I work on pretty much everything in my game. I'm not the best artist, composer, level designer, programmer, etc. But i have a knack for telling stories with what I've got, so i leaned into that part the most while letting the other skills I've learned assist me. And it's been helpful. So, if you wanna be a jack of all trades, fine. Wanna be a master of one? Great. As for me, I will be both.🙂

Yessir that's what im doing right now. I can literally do every game development job, i.e GFX, VFX, Animating, Map Development, Story Building, etc. but I am a "master-of-one" at programming. That’s exactly what I’m trying to. I’m by nature a jack of all trades and quick to learn stuff, thanks to my ADHD. I have in depth knowledge about fitness and training, in depth knowledge about automotive journalism, I know marketing, sales, finance, good at networking and constantly self learning. I would say it's better to work towards being a generalists but not a generalists in the typical definition of it. I don't mean try and master everything but become intermediate at the skills you learn. The skills you learn while working towards it will help in other fields or in your personal life like me i got to a journeymens level skill in the trades industry. Theoretically i buy a house after a few years or working, then while moving in or living there for a month or so the deck outback collapses and the house starts needing all these repairs or starts falling apart. Ill never need to hire a contractor to come and do the repairs

Thank you for this video. It was quite a soothing balm to a problem I'm having at the moment. I'm reading a book about learning and skill acquisition, and I'm finding it very interesting, but it is also suggesting that in order to be a high achiever, you must prioritise what you learn, and you must learn for a purpose. I like to learn because I like to learn, I don't *necessarily* have a reason (though often I do). And I do know that there's one skill I am most passionate about developing which is writing/storytelling, but I am always looking for new knowledge to put into my stories and my essays and improve my understanding of the world - as well as the skills that will help me navigate it. Many people that I admire are polymaths to some degree or other. Many are masters of one particular thing. Both are great. I simply think I would grow bored, being a master of only one thing (though I do want to become a master of writing, to some degree; but I think there is endless room to learn and know more there).

You need to master in one field to get famous or rich. Jack of trades won't make you famous because there is always a person who can do better than you in every field. For example Messi is famous, rich and living his dream life because he mastered in football. It is no longer practical to devote your life to breakthroughs anymore. It is very hard to search for new knowledge when you have to worry about bills and the struggles of mental health (which runs rampant in society these days).

Bills? Mental health? You’re speaking like kids wouldn’t work as chimney sweeps to earn pennies back then. And mental health support is on an all time high right now. Why do you think you see so many mental health problems online? It’s because we’re normalizing support of it in recent years I get the argument of “No working man can just devote their lives to study” because not anyone can be like the great minds of back then, either because of limited resources, or because they don’t fit that role (which is why most working men are generalists). But compared to when people like Newton existed in this Information Age, with the access of the internet, it couldn’t be a more perfect time to devote your life to as least one thing. Be it an actual science or just some hobby you really like that, who knows, might be able to impact something

I very much needed this perspective. I'm studying Software Engineering but I know a ton of other things from mechanical principles to story and animation. But realizing that I can be both a generalist AND a specialist in some specific field (which I'm thinking of going into Computer Graphics as my specialty in Software Engineering) makes me feel so much better about this path. When I graduate I will basically have the skills and knowledge I need to become versatile in the field!

I'm not so sure about the black bear when you have the brown bear. I assume you watched TierZoo's vid on bears and yea being a bit smaller lets black bear able to climb better than brown bears but not by much. Cuz yes, Brown Bears can also climb trees and have bigger bulk that helps against predators.

It goes from musical instruments I play, goes through theatre, creative writing, programming, all up to languages I speak. And yet I don't have any college degree. It also comes down to personality. Typically, more introverted people go on to become specialists and don't mind having someone do all the tedious management work for them; while more extroverted people go on to become generalists and gravitate towards management and its more social demands.

@@Faizan29353 man, here's the problem, there's no such thing as average. So, I don't think that I said something wrong. And, I've seen a lot of "Jack's of all trades", these guys doesn't know/understand a lot of basic stuff in sphere, where they trying to get a job, it's annoying. Like, man, when a specialist is a specialist, he has a piece of paper that says "He knows everything he should". So, being Jack of all trades in my opinion means being a complete dummy in everything. And a fluent Spanish speaker will be in his sphere. Doing his job. But if he wants to work as Spanish-English translator he must learn English until he's fluent in it. (I'm Russian, and learned Englsih just cause it was in my life, not cause of school or not cause I wanted, just cause it was here with me, like, for last 2 years (I'm 23 now). Never learned grammar and stuff, just watched a lot of videos on KZbin. I have some skill I'm trying to say, but even like, if I want to work in English sphere, I need to master it to level it needs. No exception In my sphere (IT/programming) was a lot of jack of all trades dummys, when you ask him, does he know that he can write a script for winget to use .exe files and not .msi cause repacked programs from internet are freaking dangerous and he says no, you want to kill him)

​@@addpowersstreams5364 I mean, In a job, Yes you do need to have a skillset but Generally in life, Like what if you know a bit of plumbing and electrical work you won't have to call someone for even the most minor inconveniences I am not saying to be "dummys who pretend they know stuff" but actually know just enough that you don't need to master it For example We learn Maths now we are not PHD grade level mathematicians, but we do use math quiet a lot. Yea we may not master "Assembly language" but if we learn python scripting or tech knowledge in general we unlock a whole new world to explore Same with learning basic survival skills, camping skills So you can explore some parts of the Earth You could not before we are not "masters like F1 car drivers" but we are good enough that Driving a car or riding a bike is useful to us
