Gradually reducing the number of cigarettes smoked - called fading - may be more effective, says Lirio Covey, PhD, Columbia professor and smoking cessation expert.

I smoked for 11 years. Had to go cold turkey, fading would suck me back in. The withdrawing was horrible, I literally got sick. I'm one month cigarette free now. Best decision I ever made!

The best way to quit is to not tell anybody and suddenly quit out of the blue rite before you lite the cigarette. It just gives you more power and more control.

I did the same. I didn’t tell anyone for the first few weeks out of the fear that I would disappoint them, if I started smoking again. I haven’t smoked in two months now.

@@andin3720 Great job keep it up. I made a grave mistake in thinking I could casually smoke like one or two a week, it worked for a bit but by no time I was smoking even more than before so best of luck to you and don’t look back it’s not worth it.

Fade method is devised to keep these 'experts' in business. Never worked for me. After 15 years, I quit the day my daughter was born. Never picked it up again. You quit all or none.

My advice Fade if you are heavy smoker from long time .. I try cold turkey I must say it's too much hard .. and withdrawals are worst ... fade is best .. I know personally cold turkey is worst choice if you heavy smoker from long periods of time

For your bodies health stopping now is best. I tapered then quit. Found physical activity to distract me. Then went to a place where there was no tobacco and stayed till I was free

I respectfully disagree. I've tried that method so many times, but it didn't even past the 2nd day. Now as Im typing this comment, I'm 568 days smoke-free. All thanks to cold-turkey. Its tough. But the reoccurring rate is much lesser than the fading method.

Toughest part is conditioning your mind. What worked for me was cold turkey for a day or two. Then when craving occurred had a couple of puffs and putting it out. Feeling guilty that I did. In all I used 3 to 4 cigarettes per day but having two to three puffs on each. Then would delay even further until your mind realizes that there is an end to the pain and misery of quitting (light at the end of the tunnel). Then going cold turkey is much less painful. Everyone is different. Circumstances of living with family or alone makes a difference. Just remember, the withdrawal is not forever. Despite the mind creating the fear that it'll always be uncomfortable. Good luck!!

P.S. Once you quit for over a month....you can't even have one. Do not put another cigarette to your lips, EVER!! Just remember that you'll have to go thru this hell again and how difficult it was.

Fading doesn't work. Just quit. I went to a place for a week where cigarettes were not available.

Do both, duh. Fade fade fade until one day your body even starts to reject it. While you're fading, mentally prep yourself. When you decide to quit cold turkey, watch videos on smoke cessation and the health benefits of not using/detriments around using. It is working for me so far. Create a playlist of go-to videos like this one when u get cravings. I'm 4 days in. I'll be back to update you guys. Good luck to everyone.

How is it
@corymitchell7325Ай бұрын
@FaisalKhalid-ub2en my cravings have gone completely away. I dealt with minor cold symptoms like post nasal drip and sneezing as result of 'quitting cough'. I was already taking seasonal allergy meds but I stopped those because I don't want to inhibit my body from it's way of flushing the toxins out. It's a good feeling to not be attached to smoking. Literally a breath of fresh air.

For me I quit cold turkey and failed many times but eventually one time it stuck. I used to say I’d only smoke when I’m drinking or turned to vaping but it doesn’t work unless you commit to quitting nicotine entirely. You shouldn’t see those failed attempts as failures though, see them as little breaks from smoking. Every time you quit for a few days then go back to it you haven’t failed, it’s a small win. It gets easier over time and eventually when you do finally quit for good it’s not even that hard because of all the little breaks you’ve had from previous attempts to quit. You really have to decide to quit entirely though, the first time I resolved in my head that I was quitting for good was the time it actually stuck.
